Communicates with influence

I have had consistent success in conveying a message and reaching my audience. Whether it is one-on-one
communication with a new client, presenting a brief to a Director, delivering a speech at a conference, or
communicating in writing, I am able to adapt my style to the needs of the audience and influence them with the
information that I am presenting.

I am a confident communicator who delivers information in a clear, concise and articulate manner both orally and in
writing. I am able to adapt information appropriate to my audience and translate information for others using
appropriate language, pitched at the correct technical level and delivered in the most appropriate medium for
maximum results. I am adept at reading my audience and altering my communication style and message accordingly,
listening to the words and interpreting the body language of others to gauge their level of understanding and acceptance
of my points. I have prepared board reports, business proposals and tenders; I have been invited to speak at a number
of industry events; and earlier this year I was a keynote speaker at the X Trade Fair, where I presented the keynote
speech to over 500 delegates. In this instance, I also amended the presentation that was originally delivered to the
company board, to be understood by conference delegates from all walks of life and knowledge bases. Before
embarking upon formal communication, including presentations, briefs and negotiations, I anticipate possible reactions
and am prepared with an appropriate range of responses.

I demonstrated this at Company A by my ability to communicate effectively with staff from the factory floor in a
manufacturing environment through to the senior leadership group. During my time in this organisation it was
undergoing a series of major changes to production processes, and within a change management process it is essential to
clearly communicate objectives to the affected groups. I did this with success, and also trained my staff in effective
communication techniques to use during periods of change and stress. It was also my responsibility at Company A, as
the manager of XYZ, to communicate with and influence major stakeholder groups within the organisation, particularly
when negotiating the final tender details of Project X.

I have very strong negotiation skills and am able to influence others during negotiation processes. During any
negotiation process I begin by gaining a clear understanding of the positions of the other parties by listening, asking
clarifying questions, and reflecting my understanding back. I am then able to approach negotiations with a strong
grasp of the key issues that have been researched prior, and clarified during the negotiation meetings. I adapt my
approach according to the positions of the other parties, identify common ground, and promote mutually beneficial
solutions while maintaining allegiance to my goals and objectives.

During my career I have effectively provided high level advice to senior public servants and ministers’ offices. I have
found that my advice is often accepted not based on my technical knowledge or position within the government
hierarchy, but based on my ability to communication information with authority and influence.
