When Fashion Meets Art.

Ms. Schorr has made a career of skating between worlds, removing the
boundaries of masculine and feminine and art and fashion. Her naturalistic
work conveys an emotional or human truth, whether it’s in gallery shows or
advertising campaigns for Bottega Veneta and Comme des Garçons. The aim of
her fashion images never seems to be selling clothes. They’re about people, not
just items to purchase.

The works in “8 Women” are mostly photos she has been taking at fashion
shoots since 1996, not that the viewer would notice. There are no garments
that scream last season or
images easily forgotten
with a flick of a magazine
page. The portraits are
contemplative and sensual.
Many were made by
piggybacking on a fashion
shoot and asking the model
to stay a few minutes
afterward; some posed
nude.

“They aren’t stripped down

to be consumed,” Ms. Schorr said. “They’re strong. They’re dressed even though
they’re undressed.”

For Ms. Schorr, her mission is clear. “I don’t photograph women lying on the
ground,” she said. “They look like roadkill. I’m in fashion to make pictures kids
can put on the wall and make them feel good.”

“Art is solitary,” she said. “Fashion is theater. I feel like they must have in the
gladiators’ time. I can feel when it’s good, when I’m killing.”
Conclusions

Alma: She tries to explain, that fashion isn’t just being thin and pose in front of
a camera, fashion is art, is being part of the clothes and feeling good. Actually,
I think she has the right opinion about fashion and about art, too. Because, she
says “They’re dressed even though they’re undressed.” And I think it’s
remarkable because, just because you’re undressed, it doesn’t mean you’re
naked because you still have your own personality and that’s what you project
into the photograph and the image you give to the costumer that’s seeing the
clothing.

Karina: For me it is important as well as it explains her feel good about

yourself and why we should take into account that it is not necessary to be very
thin, no clothes outrageously expensive if not to buy some clothes choose and
wear only that fills us as people, which increases self-esteem and makes us feel
nice to us after all the true beauty is inside us and we must also take into
account the personality, to dress well is another important factor to look good.

Cecy: This article is about fashion and art, by just reading the title I
understood that as a photography, the art can capture all the emotions,
feelings, among other things, for some the mode is what more thrills them but
on time of the clothes having reflected it for them is something satisfactory
already it is a designer, models, or the persons who buy them, and to the
formed being this inspiration in a photography I imagine that serious a very
big emotion when the passion combines for the mode and for the art that the
satisfaction of this serious very pleasing person.

Cynthia: I think that Ms. Schorr's reason is great, as she says it in a phrase "
the art is solitary ", and she's right, only there is needed a good personality and
a good attitude, you can be naked but you remain dressed because everyone
who preserves his or hers personality. I like very much the aim of his
fashionable images because it never seems to be the clothes of sale. They are on
the people, not only articles to buy.
Abraham: She tries to prove that fashion is an art and the theater is a fashion,
she says that nobody needs to be thin to model and pose for the photograph,
her photos are mostly pictures that she took at the fashion shoots from 1996.
For Ms. Schorr, her mission is clear. "I do not photograph women lying on the
ground," she said. "They look like roadkill. I'm in fashion to take pictures
children can put on the wall and make you feel good.” So, she means that you
need to be the picture, not just to lay on the floor and look pretty.
