Hello Tennessee Valley District!

Perhaps after our time at Annual Conference, we are a little closer to knowing our district name. It was amusing to
watch people at the microphone check their nametags to see their district name. But we can all identify!

The transition continues! We hope that by year-end, we will have completed all the necessary steps to become
completely the Tennessee Valley District. There is still much to do. The next step is…
WE ARE MOVING
Mary, Lori and I are looking forward to being under one roof as we move into a new office space. The Superin-
tendency Committee (combined from the two previous districts) have deliberated with me and after considering
work load, have voted to keep both Mary and Lori and we move forward into the future. For the last year, I have
spent each week between the two offices. Moving is never easy, but the end result of merging the two offices into
one will be a great relief.

 Our phone numbers will not change.

 Our mailing address will be P.O. Box 26384, Knoxville, TN 37912
 Our physical address will be 5121 Camelia Road, Knoxville - which is off of Merchants Road, easily ac-
cessible from I-75, I-275, I-640, Clinton Hwy. or Cedar Lane.

We were reminded by the Bishop that over 500 churches made no new disciples last year - as reported statistically
as 0 (zero) professions of faith. Perhaps even more alarming is that we are so nonchalant about it. Robert Porter-
field used to come out before every performance at Barter Theatre to welcome people, giving a gift to the guest we
had traveled from furthest away. Then he would say, “If you like us, talk about us! If you don’t like us, keep your
mouth shut.” I think that could be transferred to the church. If you love your church, talk about it! If you experi-
ence Jesus in your daily life, talk about it! Or as Jesus said to Mary at the tomb, “Go and tell…”

I heard a news reporter talking about all the “fact checks” which are very commonplace. She went on to say,
“facts need a witness” to be meaningful. We can proclaim, “He is Risen!” but what is our witness, our stories of
how Jesus has made a difference in a life or in our community or our church’s ministry?

VBS, Camp in the Community, mission trips, Wesley Woods, pastoral changes - there are many things happening!
There are new stories to tell, new encounters with Jesus. Can I get a witness? We want to hear your stories!
