RuggedCom products have always met or exceeded a wide range of industry standards including IEC 61850 and
IEEE 1613 for electric utility applications. We have even designated a RuggedRated™ certification to promote the fact that
all our products undergo extensive in-house testing to ensure they meet these rigorous industry standards. Based on our
good reputation, domain expertise in the industry, and by having the world’s largest installed base of substation hardened
communications equipment, customers have had the confidence to rely solely on our internal tests. But with so many
vendors now claiming compliance, we at RuggedCom felt it necessary to obtain independent 3rd party test reports for some
of the industry’s key standards. RuggedCom is the first in the industry to obtain such testing. This information flyer
summarizes some of the key test results performed by KEMA, a worldwide authority on product testing, certification, and
consulting to the electric utility industry.

Test Descriptions
VLAN Handling
Verify the multicasting of VLAN tagged IEC 61850 GOOSE messages. All VLAN tests performed PASSED.
Priority Tagging
Verify that higher priority messages will prevail over lower priority messages. The expectation is that on a network with mixed
priority packages, no high priority packages will be dropped. All priority tagging tests PASSED.
RuggedCom uses the following formulas to calculate the Worst Case Recovery Time and the Typical Case Recovery Time
(where N is the number of switches):
During the tests, the recovery time was found to be much less than the Typical Case Recovery Time.
