About the Conference

The way education systems are designed can exacerbate initial inequities and have a negative impact on student
motivation and engagement, eventually leading to dropouts. Eliminating system level obstacles to equity will
benefit disadvantaged students, without hindering other students’ progress. This will hasten socio-economic
growth and development of a country. Improvement in level of equity in education accelerates educational
potential by removing obstacles related to gender and ethnic origin or family background. In such a system, the
vast majority of students can attain high level skills and knowledge that depend on their ability and drive, more
than on their socio-economic background.

Equity in education can be seen through two dimensions: fairness and inclusion. Equity as inclusion means
ensuring that all students reach at least a basic minimum level of skills. Equitable education systems are fair and
inclusive and support their students to reach their learning potential without either formally or informally pre-
setting barriers or lowering expectations. Equity as fairness implies that personal or socio-economic
circumstances are not obstacles to educational success. An equitable education system can redress the effect of
broader social and economic inequalities. In the context of learning, it allows individuals to take full advantage of
education and training irrespective of their background. In the context of learning, it allows individuals to take full
advantage of education and training irrespective of their background. To keep in mind the importance of equity
th th
and excellence in education an International Conference is going to be organized on 29 . and 30 August, 2018
