Philosophy of Classroom Management

In order for students to grow physically, cognitively, and socially, a well-managed

classroom community is vital in facilitating the development of critical thinking and problem
solving skills to participate in our ever-changing world. My classroom will be composed of
diverse learners with a wide range of abilities. Every student has the right to be given an equal
opportunity to learn. It is my goal to provide a safe, motivating, and positive learning
environment that nurtures students, builds self-discipline, and promotes learning for all students.
To achieve this goal, I will utilize the following principles:

I believe:

• Creating an inclusive learning environment that supports all students creates an anti-
bullying climate.
• Teacher-student and student-student respectable relationships should be fostered early to
encourage the notion that our classroom is a community that works together.
• Classroom rules, procedures, and expectations should be discoursed, agreed upon, and
implemented the first day of school and maintained consistently throughout the year.
• Structure helps students to know what is expected of them, so that they can feel
comfortable and be successful. However, the need for order must not overtake
meaningful instruction.
• Effective classroom management promotes self-discipline and personal responsibility.
• Students need to take ownership of their behaviors to recognize inappropriate behaviors,
accept the consequences, and learn from their mistakes.
• Activities should be designed to involve cooperation and collaboration to promote
engagement and ownership of learning.
• A token economy system can be utilized to motivate and reward students to do their best
and reach their full potential, in an effort to be proactive and to prevent misbehavior.
• A growth mindset should be employed within the classroom to facilitate students in
valuing the process of learning.

In conclusion, it is my desire to influence students to leave me better than before they met
me. To facilitate each of my diverse learners towards reaching their full potential, I will
implement the listed classroom management principles that will aid students in developing
critical thinking and problem solving skills needed to participate in our world. This philosophy
will support my goal of creating a safe, motivating, and positive environment that nurtures
students, builds self-discipline, and promotes student learning for all students.
