In conclusion, without suggesting that all technology is necessarily good, I thi

nk it is by no means 'pointless', in any way, to try to keep traditions alive wi

th technology. We should not ignore technology, because it can be our friend and
support our way of life.
the internet and the modern refrigeration techniques are being used to keep aliv
e the traditional skills of producing salmon; it can now be ordered from, and de
livered to, anywhere in the world.
It is thought that technology developments in a country is the main reason for t
he traditional skills and ways of life to die out , and it has become pointless
to try and keep them alive. I so very agree with the statment . This can actuall
y be seen in any country nowadays.
In my opinion, we can approve the statment by taking a look at a former situatio
n of any country and the apparent change that has occurred to the country nowada
ys. For example , the country I live in "K.S.A'' as you can see , before 20 year
s when the technology was very primitive and not yet developed , people were vey
cling to there traditions . It was really uncommon to see people who do not car
e or even care less about their traditional skills.
Nowadays, the situation is clearly the exact opposite. It has become very common
to see people care less about their traditions , and actually it has become ver
y unusuall to see people gathering around to revive their traditions or to pass
any of them to their young ones. That is why most of the new generation do not k
now anything about their grandparents traditions.
I think it is really depressing that by each day passes by it becomes even more
difficult to try to keep or revive our traditions that it is believed that it is
pointless to even try to hold on to any of our traditions.
In conclusion , we should not allow this to continue and we should try to save w
hatever traditions we are still holding on to , but we should not stop the devel
opment of technology to do this , we can keep on developing technology and still
keep our traditional skills and our wys of livng alive.
Advantages and disadvantages of modern technology.
Technology can be defined as science applied to practical purposes. Nowadays, wh
en the rapidness of development and research is so impressive, it is easy to thi
nk about the advantages of modern technology. Nevertheless some people argue tha
t science can destroy mankind. It is also obvious that we are close on an era wh
ere technology is limited only by our imagination. Therefore the most frequently
asked question is: Does technology go the right way and will it save or ruin ou
r civilization?
It can be argued that modern technology makes life easier and more dignified for
most of people. The first and the major advantage is that medical science is ve
ry progressive and vastly available. Without the needed technology a lot of peop
le would struggle with their health. In addition it saves many innocent lives. T
he point is to spread it and reach with medicine help to the poor nations of the
Third World. Secondly,
the advanced technology improves industry by making it more effective and, what
is vital today, safer for environment. Moreover when we look at TV, personal com
puter, mobile phone or internet for instance is quite obvious that all this inve
ntions have been made in the last 20 years. Thus the speed of improvement is hug
e and unpredictable.
On the minus side there is weaponry which is the inseparable issue of the new te
chnologies. Hence the main problem is the proper use of this knowledge. Neverthe
less, weapon engineering propels and provides a huge advance. Also, the industry
despite highly developed machinery pollutes the globe. On the other hand while
many people live in horrible conditions and famine governments spend a lot of mo
ney on developing weapon industry. Is it the right way? Maybe the modern technol
ogy should either stop or prevent social disproportions. Lastly, do new technolo
gies make us happier? It is not an easy question and each person should consider
it.

Nowadays, technology is used scientifically and just for fun. But if you really
think deep about technology, the speed of the developments is making it easier f
or us, humans to think of only advantages on modern technology. Nevertheless som
e people argue that science can destroy mankind. Eg; Robots will be built to clo
ne humans, robots will take over the world, the first genetically cloned human b
rain will be implanted
in a robot which will enable to feel human emotions, and maybe even create some
kind of robotic offspring. One thing I would also like to state is technology is
only created by our minds, with our imaginations. Without imaginations, no tech
nology would have been created.
For example if it weren¡‾t for Alexander Graham Bell, the telephone wouldn¡‾t be invente
d and we would have no way of talking to someone unless we either wrote a letter
or were speaking to them upfront. What if there was an emergency. Your mother,
father, friend, sibling or grandparent had a fatal accident and you needed assis
tance immediately. You couldn¡‾t just write a letter to 999/ emergency assistance co
uld you?
Furthermore, books are boring. Everyone knows that. Teachers don¡‾t like books anymo
re either. That¡‾s why they buy smartboards
Science and technological advancements are progressing by leaps and bounds in to
day's modernized world. We are using technological equipments in each corner of
our life. We have become totally dependent on instruments and we cannot imagine
a day without using them. It has created devastating effects on our traditional
skills and I believe that we should try to keep our identity.
We have adopted the advanced technology in our life as a result of that we requi
re calculator and computer to do simple tasks. Teacher and student relationship
is at the verge of extinction. Nowadays students rely in study at home by watchi
ng podcasts videos. Teachers are happy because they save their time and get paid
, however they have lost many important skills, which can make not only good pup
il but also better citizen.
Machines in big factories have replaced human workers and as a result arts and c
raftsmen are losing their jobs. Machine can save time and earn big revenue for e
mployers at the long term, whereas craftsmen loos their skills and enforce to st
art another job. Technology has become a boon in some fields like banking, where
they can finish more work in less time. Moreover, technology has opened doors f
or students to do their research for betterment of community in field of space a
nd medicines.
Traditional skills are our culture and heritage, which should be transfer to you
ng generation. For instance, traditional skill like Ayurveda, which is non-side
effective medical treatment, can be a better option for people with skin cancers
, where allopathic treatment has many side effects. Moreover, with the help of t
raditional skills in maths and physics our old generation has build ancient monu
ments and sculptures.
In a nutshell, we should respect our own traditional skills and limit the use of
technology in everyday life. I believe that the mixture of traditional and tech
nology can have more advantages in our life, which in turn keep our moral and id
entity alive.
As technology develops, people give up their traditional way to accomplish some
tasks for an easier and many times more effective way. Even in simple activities
of the day we see new technological inventions all around. From the crack of da
wn, when we wake up with our digital alarm and electronic agenda, reminding us o
ur daily appointments, to the moment when the night falls by setting up our TV t
o get switched off just after we sleep.
In fact, technology has played a very important role in our lives by providing u
s a leverage to tackle the problems and uncomfortable situations that might appe
ar, giving a boost in our business, life and relationships. In the past 20 years
, I have seen some of those fabulous inventions helping people worldwide.
The mobile phone, for instance, has speeded up the communication throughout the
world, allowing business to go across the borders, helping families to reach the
ir relatives wherever they are.
On the other hand, some people say that this high volume of gadgets full filling
the day of our children might create a barrier against some important values of
our society, such as, interpersonal relationships, the ability and willing to d
eal with people and problems in person and a couple of more problems caused by t
his lack of traditional relationships.
From my point of view, technology has been very important in our lives and will
move our planet upwards as long as we know how to use it on a good purpose.
New technology is being introduced at an alarming speed, even more as we have en
tered the 21st century. In some way these advances will effect, if not already,
the way that your business operates and competes in the future. Can you afford t
o work without these changes or is it essential that you keep up with technologi
cal advances to keep your business pushing forward? The following article will h
elp you determine an answer by outlining the impact of introducing new technolog
y.
New technology can be put into different categories that will help you understan
d the different effects they could have:
A New Product/Service
For example, mini-discs, lap-top computers, interactive TV (for home shopping, g
ames, banking, etc)
New Business Operations
For example, automatic cash tills, computer aided design (CAD), e-mail, remote w
orking, etc
A New Production Process
For example, ordering, invoicing to robotic arm manufacturing¡
New Materials
For example, silicon chips (computers), polystyrene packaging, etc
What is Technology?
There are many different terms for ¡®technology¡‾ but in general, it is better known as:
¡‾something that uses a human, scientific or material approach to solve problems to
result in increased efficiency.¡‾
For a common example, you are using technology now to read this: a computer. You
may also use your computer to send e-mails instead of sending letters through t
he post: more efficient- getting the idea? Information Technology will be discus
sed further later in the article.
Keeping up with one of the most recent technology fashions- mobile phones: you u
se these so that you keep in contact with people if you leave the premises.
What Can be Considered as New Technology?
Simply, it can be classed as technology that has just been introduced and is ava
ilable to all. It may be the introduction of something completely new or even th
e development of something that already exists.
Introduction of new technology
Without going into specifics, It all begins with an invention or an idea not onl
y by people within businesses, but also by independent people. For an extreme ex
ample, the idea of using photonics (light) in medical equipment has recently giv
en the breakthrough of new procedures such as ¡®key hole surgery¡‾.
Development of existing technology
Right now, there is a continuous development and introduction of new technology,
for example, with computers: digital cameras, laser printing, web cams (confere
ncing), processors (Pentium 4 now available), the list can go on.
Introducing Information Technology into Your Business
Today, perhaps the most popular introduction of new technology in a small busine
ss is the use of Information Technology (IT). It may be that your business curre
ntly uses IT in the workplace to assist daily operations but are you using it to
the full potential?
Administration ¨C Invoicing
The current requirements are that you keep a hard copy of your invoices for six-
years: the government is now allowing some degree of relaxation in this area (se
e Customs & Excise). But the six-year rule should not stop you from sending and
receiving invoices by email and then printing a hard copy: this will result in m
ore co operation between supplier and customer, plus quicker communication. Invo
icing and ordering are similar in procedure and once you use both of these tasks
on-line it is a major step towards e-commerce.
Communications
The popular way of sending/receiving documents and information with speed is via
e-mail. This method sends the information through telephone wires to the end lo
cation within seconds. Quite recently, mobile phones have been adapted so they c
an use e-mail and have access to the Internet.
Trading
IT can be used as a form of trading and this is mainly done via the Internet (al
so known as e-commerce). The rise in popularity of the Internet has pushed busin
esses into using the facility to sell their products/service. It is also used fo
r the opposite reason where purchases can be made instantly via the Internet. Th
e introduction of new Internet connection technology (broadband) has further bui
lt up the Interest of users.
Production
If your business has a production line, IT can be installed to control the many
procedures that may be involved. For example, lasers can be installed for qualit
y control and computers can be programmed to operate machinery (start/stop, etc)
.
Research
Again, the most popular use of IT for research is accessing the Internet. The In
ternet offers a wide range of information which can be helpful for researching b
usiness projects: this is as true for the small business as for larger ones.
Administration
With the use of computers, regular tasks (updating records, writing letters, etc
) can be completed and recorded with accuracy and speed using appropriate softwa
re (Excel, Word, Access, etc). This information can then be easily recovered for
future viewing and interaction such as faxing and invoicing. This procedure als
o reduces the need for filing.
Other uses may include keeping records of operations in the business (sales, tur
nover, stock figures, etc), employee details and customer/supplier information.
This information can again be easily accessed when required.
The Advantages of New Technology in Your Business
Reduced Waste
will lead to lower costs. Today, the amount of waste produced by technology can
be the difference between strict environmental regulations and closure (but of c
ourse, also profitability).
Increased Productivity
where properly assessed, increased production, through efficiency and better pla
nning, can also result from the introduction of new technology.
Less Workforce
may be needed if jobs that previously required personnel can now be automated, f
urther reducing costs. This is an added advantage if you have few employees alre
ady, otherwise you may face redundancies.
Higher Profits
due to the increased efficiency which produces less costs. It may also be that n
ew technology allows jobs to be completed quicker so that cash flow is more flui
d.
A Higher Income
can be yours if your business is making more profit. You may even decide to give
your employees a bonus that could increase their motivation.
Advanced Communications
such as the use of e-mail, computer networks and mobile phones allow information
to be sent/received instantly. This is especially useful for long distances whe
re documents and information needs to be passed on quickly. Remote work-force em
ployers (employing travelling sales, home workers etc) have instant access to st
aff from mobile phones, web cams from PC¡‾s and on-the-road lap tops.
More Competitive
as you can afford to lower the price of your product/service if your profit leve
ls increase, without lowering your standards.
The Disadvantages of New Technology in Your Business
The Management
of new technology can be extremely difficult. If the decision of purchasing new
technology is down to you, do you buy now or wait for the next technological adv
ance? Also, you have to decide if the technology is really needed as some things
can be expensive. Integrating the technology into your workforce is another tas
k in its self.
New Skills
may be needed to operate the new technology and so you will have to re-train you
r employees.
Maintenance
of the technology will be required to keep it efficient. More importantly, if it
is a piece of machinery on a production line: what if it beaks down ¨C will it pu
t a stop to all production?
Costs
are something that will be reduced if integrated properly. You have to consider
if you have the finance to purchase the technology in the first place. Secondly,
if it is to replace employees, will you have to issue redundancy pay?
Time
can be lost if you have to reorganize the workplace to set up the new technology
. This could be an important issue if your business works to tight deadlines. If
you have a network of PC¡‾s (even two) you will have to know something about comput
ers to ensure quick resolvement of IT issues.
Working Without New Technology
It may not be your business that uses the latest technology but in some way, you
r business will still be affected by its introduction. Those who you have connec
tions with may be integrating new technology (example, suppliers) and therefore
have a ¡®knock on effect¡‾ onto your business. There are literally hundreds of examples
that can illustrate this, but to help you understand in the simplest terms we wi
ll just outline the more general issues.
For an extreme example, your supplier may also be the manufacturer of your produ
ct, and by implementing the latest technology it is making their costs much lowe
r through increased efficiency. Although they may keep their selling prices the
same, if you have good relations, they may offer you their service at a lower ra
te.
Related to the example above, the delivery costs of stock/materials will be redu
ced significantly due to the introduction of new technology such as better trans
port storage facilities. f your business uses transport services to deliver your
products to locations around the country, than you will further benefit from th
is advance.
If your competitors modernize their operations and products/service with technol
ogical advances, this is where you can suffer. By making their own operations mo
re efficient through reduced costs and speed, they can offer their products/serv
ice at lower prices which you may not be able to compete with. Also, little thin
gs such as the packaging of their products with new lighter and stronger materia
ls (example, polystyrene) will give their product a significant advantage in the
market.
Summary
New Technology is being introduced all the time making it more efficient to what
is currently available. What you have to decide is whether you need to upgrade
to the latest technology in an attempt to be more profitable/operational/competi
tive, or if you can push your business forward without it.
You further have to take into account where this new technology is heading: will
it dominate the future way of doing a task, or is it something that customers w
ill lean towards when buying a product (for example, a new material)? If so, you
have to consider if your business will be ¡®left behind¡‾ in terms of new advances whic
h could damage your image.
Introducing new technology does have its disadvantages which may be short term c
aused by it¡‾s initial integration (re-organizing, re-training, etc). It is a task o
f weighing these up against the advantages to see if you will benefit from its u
se.
You may come to a conclusion that your business won¡‾t benefit from new technology a
nd this is fair to say. If your business doesn¡‾t need to rely on the latest technol
ogy to help push forward and remain competitive, then this is a decision you may
have made from reading articles like this, word of mouth, or that un-convincing
salesman. To others, you may have realized that new technology can benefit your
business in some way.

Competency
?With spell check and automatic technology, simple knowledge and calculations ar
e done for most people. While this does save time and effort, it causes many ind
ividuals to become dependent on technology, which can be problematic in situatio
ns without modern advancement.

Vocation
?As computing technology and robotic mechanisms become increasingly advanced, fe
wer jobs are available due to the fact that machines can perform a task more eff
iciently at a quicker pace.

Moreover, we have become excessively dependent on technology. Is so much of a de

pendency desirable? Is it right to rely on machines? Is it right to depend on co
mputers rather than relying on human intellect? Computer technology and robotics
have almost replaced human brains. With the developing technology, we have star
ted harnessing artificial intelligence in many fields. Where is this digital div
ide going to take us? How will our ¡®tomorrow¡‾ be? ¡®Machines replacing human beings¡‾ doe
portray a rosy picture. It can lead to severe issues like unemployment and crim
e. An excessive use of machines in every field can result in an under utilizatio
n of human brain. Due to under utilization of intelligence for a prolonged perio
d of time, man may lose his intellectual abilities and may not even be able to t
hink. Think¡
One can cherish an accomplishment only if it is a result of pain and effort. But
everything has become so easily available due the advancing technology that it
has lost its value. There is a certain kind of enjoyment in achieving things aft
er striving for them. With the developments in technology, we may be able to enj
oy all the pricey luxuries but miss out on the little priceless joys of life.
I can not totally agree with this opinion. I believe we have to try and keep the
traditional skills and the ways of life alive. There are some reasons why I thi
nk so.
First, the technology which a country develops bases on past technology. Without
past technology, we can not create new technology. And past technology means th
e traditional technology. For example, sometimes scientists get a wonderful idea
from ancient technology. Furthermore some famous scientific discoverments break
ancient ideas. So it is obvious that it is difficult to develop our technology
without them.
Second, the speed of the development of our technology is increasing rapidly. Ev
en the people in developed countries can not catch up with it. This means there
is a possibility that we can not fit with new technology. We do not know the bad
side of new technology, because people tend to get just benefits from it. As a
result, we destroy environment, in addition we suffer from such destruction. If
we kept and spent under the traditional ways of life, this problem would never o
ccur. So we have to keep the traditional ways of life alive to protect us from s
uch disasters, even if it does not seem to bring benefit to our lives.
Finally, we can learn many things from the traditional skills and ways of life.
they are our history. Though it is difficult to touch our history by our own han
ds, we can learn it directly from the traditional skills and ways of life if we
keep them alive. It is the best way to teach our own history to children. So we
should leep them alive.
In conclusion, we have to try and keep them alive. It is because we can not live
without them and we can get much knowledge from them.
