Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Universal Design for Learning can be used to extend and support the learning experiences for all students.
In the lesson, the teacher will provide visuals that will aid English Language Learners. This will help ELLs
transition into English because they can connect pictures to words. The use of Bubbl.us is also great for visual
learners and students with visual impairments. This program allows users to zoom in on the words to better
see. The use of a beyond the basic productivity tool also allows students to be creative when making their
final products.

Lesson idea implementation:

For the introduction, the teacher will hook the students by asking, “Who would like to go on an in class
road trip?”. The teacher will explain to students that they will be taking a road trip around Georgia to visit the
different regions. The teacher will then explore the five regions by showing the students a picture of each
along with the name, where it is located, and a brief overview. After students have more knowledge on what
Georgia’s five regions, she will then model how to use Bubbl.us to create a mind map. The teacher will select
the Piedmont region of Georgia and show students how to create “bubbles” for each feature of the region.
Students will then choose one of the other four regions of Georgia and become an expert on their selected
region by completing research. Each Bubbl.us product will have information on what the region is known for,
animals, and plants. Once students are done creating their mind maps, they will present their products to the
class to give the other students more insight on each region of Georgia. A rubric will be used to support the
students as they create their Bubbl.us products.

Reflective Practice:

After designing this lesson idea, I feel the activities could impact student learning because the students are
creating products that impact the learning of their peers. To further extend the lesson, I could upload the
students’ products online, so they can view their own work and other students’ work.
