We have established a high profile presence in the


Middle East through our role as Lead Designer on the Dubai Metro project and the Rail Systems designer
on the Makkah Metro in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and also Preliminary Designer for Etihad Rail in Abu
Dhabi.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced RAMS Engineer to provide expert advice and consultancy
services to an extensive internal and external client base with a focus on the transportation. This role
requires strong technical background in a multi-disciplinary consulting environment primarily within the rail
industry. The successful applicant will be a team member also contributing to large scale urban rail
projects throughout the Middle East. The person will also assisting developing business by increasing the
current client base and furthering client relationships through identifying opportunities for future works and
services.

While initially assigned to a specific project, the role will support the Core Team to further support Atkins
in future projects within the region.

Role:

Reporting to the head of Systems & Assurance, to provide Reliability, Availability, Maintenance &
operational Safety Engineering services on rail projects in compliance EN50126. To support business
development and project delivery obligations for the Transport sector.

Responsibilities:
 Creating the documentation required to verify that the design is meeting the customer
requirements and adhering to the processes established for the project;
 Creating, managing and assessing Hazard Logs, ALARP determination, Control Measure
apportionment and traceability, assessing design safety features;
 Assisting Stakeholders, Engineering and Project Management in understanding the Safety
Engineering effort so that they can better understand and forecast the scope of their projected
activities;
 Preparing for and participating in Hazard Analysis workshops, Project Design Reviews, Safety
Design Reviews and required Gate Reviews;
 Assisting Engineering in assessing the need for redundancy and evaluating accessibility for
maintenance;
 Determining whether the system provides adequate testability features;
 Assisting Stakeholders, Engineering and Project Management in understanding the RAM effort
so that they can better understand and forecast the scope of their projected activities;
 Implementing and maintaining RAMS performance measurement criteria, Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs), and activity tracking in order to visually convey status of system operational
performance against established project requirements;
 Preparing for and participating in Project Design Reviews and required Gate Reviews;
 Attending FRACAS meetings and participating in the review of root cause analysis findings.
 Assist in the development of internal practices in support of Rail Integration across all
disciplines.
 Knowledge transfer to other suitable Atkins staff.

Requirements:

Qualifications:
 Bachelor of Engineering Degree (or equivalent) in engineering or an appropriate discipline
 Chartered Engineer or equivalent (or working towards)
 Member of appropriate professional institution(s).
Essential Criteria:
 Significant experience in performing RAMS analysis on rail systems;
 Good working knowledge of RAM, LCC, FMECA and RBD calculations and analysis methods;
 Knowledge/ experience in Availability Modelling of a service network e.g. railway network would
be advantageous;
 Assess Reliability growth and predict Reliability growth of the new or modified assets
introduced to the railway to verify whether RAMS targets can be achieved.
 Produce FRACAS procedure specific to a project(s) and manage FRACAS though its
implementation as well as interface with suppliers FRACAS processes.
 Analytical mindset with excellent verbal/ written communication (interfacing with non-specialist
technical team members);
 Willingness to work in a collaborative environment involving the client and flexible enough to
carry out any tasks required to complete RAMS deliverables;
 Review and acceptance of RAMS deliverables.
 Undertake availability modelling to forecast the impact on availability performance of the railway
due to the changes introduced.
 Manage RAMS demonstration of the new or modified assets introduced to the railway and
produce RAMS demonstration report.
 Significant experience in a safety management role on rail systems who can conduct safety
assessments, systems assurance and have worked to industry standards
 Safety Management System and Safety Case development experience
 Experience of hazard identification, hazard analysis and risk assessment
 Interfacing and responding to Independent Safety Assessors and Regulatory bodies
 Analytical mindset with excellent verbal/ written communication (interfacing with non-specialist
technical team members);
 Willingness to work in a collaborative environment involving the client and flexible enough to
carry out any tasks required to complete, review and accept Safety deliverables.
 Minimum of 5 Years of experience relevant to the position.
 Prepared and able to travel throughout the Middle East and India.
Desirable Criteria:
 Middle East or other offshore experience will be highly regarded
 Experience in Systems Engineering and RAM and Safety processes
 Experience in Heavy Haul Freight and High Speed Passenger railways, Metro and other
Guided Transport Systems (e.g. APM, Tram, Monorail).
 Airport systems experience useful
 Multi lingual
 Presentation skills
 Tendering experience.
