Governor Control Lever

NOTICE
To prevent engine damage, the governor must be out of slow range
when operating hydraulic controls.

Engine Stopped (1) - Move the lever all the forward to stop the engine.

Slow (2) - Move the lever to this position to decrease the engine speed.

Economy (3) - Move the lever to the detent position for lower fuel consumption and quieter operation.

Fast (4) - Move the lever to the right and rear, beyond the detent position, to increase the engine speed.
Use this position for maximum production work.

Automatic Engine Speed Control (If Equipped)

The purpose of the Automatic Engine Speed Control is to automatically drop engine speed to a low
speed setting when there is no hydraulic demand. Engine speed returns to the desired operating speed as
soon as attachment controls are actuated.

It also provides an automatic intermediate engine speed below high idle for use in a modulated
application such as finish grading, excavating in "easy" material, etc. Engine rpm will go to maximum
operating speed as demand increases and to low speed setting when there is no demand.

The operator must set the maximum operating speed by positioning the governor control lever. Lever
position does not change as engine speed changes automatically.

Two Speed Mode (1) - Engine will stay at a low speed setting until there is a hydraulic demand. When
there is a hydraulic demand, the engine will go to the speed setting established by the governor control
lever position.

When the hydraulic demand stops, the engine will drop back to the low speed setting after a two second
delay.

Off (2) - Engine speed is manually controlled with the governor control lever.

Two Speed "Economy" Mode (3) - Engine will stay at a low speed setting until there is a hydraulic
demand. When there is a hydraulic demand, the engine will go to an intermediate speed.

When the hydraulic demand stops, the engine will drop back to the low speed setting after a three
second delay.

Directional Travel Pedals

The farther the pedals are pushed down, the faster the travel speed.

The brakes are engaged automatically when the travel pedals are released.

Reverse Direction Travel Pedal (1) - Push down on the left pedal for reverse travel. The machine will
always travel toward the sprockets.

Forward Direction Travel Pedal (2) - Push down on the right pedal for forward travel. The machine
will always travel toward the idlers.

Travel toward the idlers for normal travel. Steering functions will be reversed when traveling over the
sprockets.

Steering Control Levers

The travel pedals must be used with the steering control levers to allow machine movement.

Spot Left Turn (1) - Move the lever all the way to the left to reverse the left track, allowing a quick left
turn (counter rotation).

Pivot Left Turn (2) - Move the lever part way to the left to stop the left track, allowing the machine to
turn gradually.

Straight (3) - Move the lever to this position to allow the machine to go straight in either direction.

Pivot Right Turn (4) - Move the lever part way to the right to stop the right track, allowing the machine
to turn gradually.

Spot Right Turn (5) - Move the lever all the way to the right to reverse the right track, allowing a quick
right turn (counter rotation).

Hydraulic and Directional Lock Lever

Locked - Push the lever down and all hydraulic controls and the travel pedals are inoperable.

Unlocked - Pull the lever up and all hydraulic controls and the travel pedals are operable.

Swing Lock Pin

NOTICE
Engage the pin only when the upper structure is aligned with the track
to avoid machine damaged.

Do not attempt to engage the pin when the upper structure is rotating.

Engaged - Push the lever down to lock the upper structure to the lower structure to prevent rotation.

Disengaged - Pull the lever up and back to unlock the upper from the lower structure and allow rotation.

Swing Brake Control

Engage - Pull the lever up over center, to prevent movement of the upper structure that could be caused
by swinging load.

Release - Lower the lever to release the swing brake.

Turn the knob on the end of the lever, to adjust the brake. It should require a firm pull to engage the
brake. The brake should prevent swing movement against swing motor torque when properly adjusted.
Turn the knob to the right to tighten the brake, or to the left to loosen the brake.

If the brake cannot be adjusted, consult your Caterpillar dealer.
