II. Rationale

The Sweet Cravings Multi- Purpose Cooperative was created and organized purposely for
the common needs of its prospective members to uplift their present standard of living by
voluntarily joining together and pooling resources to form a small business enterprise which
themselves own, control, and patronize. As the name of the organization implies, the primary
business would be selling sweet products and filling up the credit needs of the members for
provident and productive activities at a reasonable rate of interest.

The cooperative was organized mainly for the members to gradually save and avail of
credit loan especially during the times they are most needed.

III. Goals and Objectives

Sweet Cravings Multi- Purpose Cooperative’s main endeavor is to produce and distribute
commodities to the members and non-members and engage in supply of production inputs to
members and market their products would be undertaken to facilitate the capital build-up
program.

Through the cooperative’s credit services, we aim to give assistance to the members in
terms of financial needs and to increase the income and purchasing power of the members
through loans with minimal interest rate.

IV. Economic Profile

Manila, aside from being the seat of the national government, is also the commercial,
industrial, and financial center of the country. All the major banks and other financial institutions
are headquartered here. Although its land area does not represent one percent of the total area of
the country, almost a third of the national economy is produced in this region.

The main commerce of this city is the fresh produce markets and the shopping centers.
Manila being a very important tourist destination, tourism is the obvious industry in the region.
The economy of manila runs on tourists and therefore it is very important for the government to
maintain the flow of foreign travelers.

The cooperative’s demand in the area is quite low but its potential can never be ignored.
Through creating cooperatives in the area, the small business individuals can generate funds and
lend money for the start-up of their businesses. The recruitment of members in the area whether
full-time or part-time is still on-going to widen the scope of the cooperative.

V. Technical Aspect

1. The selling committee must take charge of selling the products of the cooperative while
the operational committee must be concern on the overall operations of the cooperative.
The credit committee will take care of all the credit functions, transactions, collection etc.
If in any case that a member/members of this committee is submitting a loan to the
cooperative, the Board of Directors must take over the functions only for the purpose of
their loan application.

2. This multi-purpose/credit cooperative shall sell caterpillar (candy), meringue, apple tape
(candy), crinkles to benefit all the members and the people outside the cooperative by
selling quality goods at an affordable variety of prices and grant small instant loans for
productive purposes to debtors with small interest.

VI. Management Aspects

Assumptions:

1. Continuous capital build-up by the initial members for P 20.00 per week for 2
months life span of the cooperative.
2. Sweet Cravings Cooperative is a multi-purpose and credit cooperative. As a credit
cooperative we allow each member to borrow money from the cooperative provided of a
1% interest rate. We allow each member of our cooperative to borrow money not
exceeding 100 pesos.
3. We sell our products at a minimum price not exceeding 10 pesos.
4. At the end of our operation part of the income that we will earn will be donated to
ICES.
Project Benefit:

1. Each member has the opportunity to improve their social interaction through selling
of our goods to the consumers.
2. We will be able to help charitable institutions through donating some parts of our
earnings.
3. We will be able to apply all the theories that we have learned inside the class.
4. It could promote and support small scale entrepreneurship.
VII. Financial Aspects

Sources of capital and uses thereof as well as the mobilization of such funds:

Every Friday, the treasurer collects P20.00 from each member of the group. In the event
of non-payment of P20.00, the member must pay it on the following meeting. The funds
collected were used to procure the products needed for retailing activities of the group.

The Profits incurred every after selling of products were set aside for the credit functions.
If the barrowed money would be paid on the 3 rd day, it would be given a 3% interest; 5 th day and
more, corresponds to 5% interest. The profits incurred are added to the funds of credit functions.

REACTION PAPER:

I think our multi-purpose cooperative is doing well. We’re all doing our jobs and
everyone is participating. As from what I’m seeing, everything is in place, our financial facet is
very organized and the financial statements are transparent.

Me, as the general manager of our cooperative is doing my job in managing and
coordinating work of the process and on some operational aspects. I usually plan the over-all
cooperative’s operational and functional features. Me and the treasurer together with the auditor
synchronize very well.

As for the other members, over-all they’ve been very active and I think our multi-purpose
cooperative, at the end of operation, will generate income that’ll compensate all of our efforts.
