My teaching philosophy is quite simple as it is based on an active and constructivist approach to learning. I have high
expectations for all students because I believe that all students have the potential to learn. However, how students learn differs
greatly. If lessons are inquiry based and linked to students' existing schema, then students' natural curiosity will make learning more
fun, engaging, and more individualized. With this is mind; I tailor my lessons so that students have the opportunity to learn given
different mediums of information. I plan and execute lessons that incorporate diverse media and activities to support the various
learning styles of my students.
From lecturing to interactive group activities to individual assignments, students have many opportunities to demonstrate their
strengths and improve upon their weaknesses. Varying my teaching methods and offering students different ways of engaging with
the material acts to reinforce my belief that we all learn differently. In addition, my assessments are also varied - from role-playing to
creative short story writing to the standard essay, students are given many opportunities to shine. In doing so, learning not only
becomes more interesting for students, but it also becomes more personal as well.

Students in my class explore meaning, engage in critical thinking, and learn to work with others to become the best learners
they can be. Within my classroom, I create a safe, positive, and friendly environment where students feel comfortable to explore
new ideas and challenge each other's' opinions. I believe that course material should not only be interactive, but also challenging and
relevant to students.

Schools should encourage cooperation and have students work together rather than compete against one another. Students
should work collaboratively together and utilize each other’s knowledge to figure out the answers instead of competing with one
another over grades. When students work together and when learning is student-centered, students are more likely to be motivated
to learn because they enjoy taking responsibility over their own learning. Learning occurs when students are able to construct their
own meaning and given the chance to practice. Many times students think that they should understand a concept right away, but
they do not realize that it is ok not to understand something right away - that practice makes perfect. While students are practicing,
it is vital as an educator, that I provide useful feedback in a timely manner.

I want students to be naturally curious about life and to understand that learning occurs all the time, not solely in the
classroom setting. I implore students to become lifelong learners and truly appreciate their world. I truly desire to bring out each
student’s creativeness and uniqueness within my classroom. I know that learning is so vital for every single student; therefore, as an
educator, I strive to help each student reach his or her full learning potential.
