Daily Lesson Plan in English (Grade 8) March 6, 2018

I. Objectives:

A. Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of: Southeast Asian literature as
mirror to a shared heritage ; coping strategies in processing textual
information; strategies in examining features of a listening and viewing
material; structural analysis of words and propaganda techniques; and
grammatical signals for opinion- making, persuasion, and emphasis.
B. Performance Standards
The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a persuasive
speech based on an informative essay featuring use of properly
acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-
making , persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features,
stance, and behavior.
C. Learning Competencies
Explain the meaning of a word through structural analysis (prefixes,
roots, suffixes). EN8V-IIIa-15.3

A. Reviewing Previous Lesson (5 minutes)

B. Establishing Purpose for the Lesson

This lesson aims to teach the students in analyzing the structure of a word through
looking on the prefix, root, and suffix.
C. Presenting the Lessons/Examples: (5 minutes)
Before introducing the lesson, the teacher will show two different sets of flash
pictures and students will try to guess the word using the given hints.

D. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills (20 minutes)

“PREFIXES AND SUFFIXES”

Prefix - a syllable that comes before a root or base word to create new word or
meaning.
3 Basic Prefixes
1. Un- which means “opposite of” (E.g. uncover, undo, unclear).
2. Dis- which means “ not or no” (E.g. disregard, dishonest, disable).
3. Re- which means “again” (E.g. recover, remake, retake)

Suffix- is a syllable attached to the end of a word to adjust or create a new


meaning.
3 Basic Suffixes
1. Ness- which means “a state or condition” (E.g. kindness, cleverness, likeness)
2. Able- which means “can be done” (E.g. breakable, readable, understandable)
3. Ful- which means “full of “ (E.g. useful, cheerful, colorful)

E. Finding Practical Application of Concepts and Skills in Daily Living


Ask: How can we apply Prefixes and Suffixes in our daily life?

With knowledge about Prefixes and Suffixes,


we become proficient in language arts and can help
us to understand the meaning of words. Additionally,
we can apply Prefixes and Suffixes in our daily life
through using them in a conversation or talking to
someone because it analyzes the words of other
speakers. By that, we can have a meaningful and
interactive communication.
F. Developing Mastery (Group Activity) (5 minutes)

The teacher will divide the class into three groups.

Instruction: Each group will have a board with selections of Prefixes, root words
and Suffixes to be inserted in the board to come up with a meaning. The first
group to properly organize their board will be declared as winner.

G. Making Generalizations and Abstractions about the Lesson (2 minutes)


a. Ask the students what is Prefix and Suffix.
b. Let the students create new words using Prefixes and Suffixes.
c. Ask them what will happen if a Prefix or Suffix is added to a word.

H. Evaluating Learning (10 minutes)


Instruction: In your ¼ sheet of paper, fill in the blanks with the correct Prefix or
Suffix on the given word. Get your answers in the box.

Instruction: In your ¼ sheet of paper, provide 3 examples of a word with Prefix
and 3 words for Suffix.

For 3-5 scores


Instruction: In your ½ crosswise sheet of paper, construct at least 5 sentences with
words having Prefix or Suffix.
