Upgrade Procedures for Six Port Card to Firmware 1.

04

Note 1: This procedure applies to HP branded Six Port Card Rev Cxx only card where xx can be 00 or
some other digits. Older rev boards may not be firmware upgradeable. The Rev label is located on the
same white label with spare number and serial number on the back of the card.

Note 2: The installation of the flash program and the upgrade of the firmware are divided into two steps:

Section A covers instruction to flash the Six Port Card.

Section B covers troubleshooting.

Note 3: A straight through serial cable is required to be connected between the communications port of
the computer and the serial port #1 of the Six Port Card, which is inserted in the UPS. Use the serial
cable supplied by the UPS or with the Six Port Card, HP P/N 201092-00X, where X is 1, 2 or 3.

Note 4: If communication is interrupted during the firmware upgrade process period, the UPS will be in
the flash upgrade mode. In this mode, it cannot communicate with any communication software other
than the PWFlash program. Therefore, if communication is interrupted, recycle the power to the UPS and
repeat the steps outlined in Section A. Insure that no other application is accessing the COM Port such
as HP Power Manager or any other application.

Note 5: Make sure the UPS is turned ON. At the final step of the upgrade, the UPS will be reset.

program does not initiate communication with the UPS as displayed in the two pictures below then check
the following:
1. Verify that the UPS is turned ON.
2. Use the straight through serial cable which came with the UPS and the card connection on both
ends is secured.
3. Select the correct communications port (COM1, COM2, COM3, or COM4). Note: To select a
different communications port Click on File, Click Configuration, select the communications port
desired, and Click OK.
4. Verify there are no other applications using the selected communications port. If so, stop the
service or task, uninstall the program, or use a different communications port.
