Dear Students
Welcome to our first edition of the EducationUK Scholarship
Guide for 2016-17 entry. This guide provides a listing of some
of the scholarships available for South Asian students choosing
to study in the UK. The scholarships listed include a wide range
of international scholarship schemes as well as scholarships
offered by top Universities and Institutions with a total value of
approximately 12 million GBP provided by 47 UK universities.
Why choose a UK education?
Gain an excellent education: Did you know four of the top six universities in the world
are in the UK? UK Institutions offer you a world-class education and the chance to gain
qualifications that are respected by employers and academics worldwide.
World leaders in research and innovation: With 54% of the UK’s research classed as
world leading, UK is a leader in research and innovation with 114 Nobel Prize winners.
Professor Higgs joins a distinguished line of previous UK-educated winners.
Open the doors to your dream career: UK qualifications are respected and valued by
employers worldwide, giving you the edge when you are applying for jobs. Reports show
UK-educated international graduates achieve markedly higher average salaries than if
they had been educated at home. A survey carried out with 27,000 graduate employers
found graduates from UK universities are among the most employable, with employers
rating five UK universities among the world’s top 10.
Study your own way: UK education gives you the chance to choose a course that
matches your ambitions and interests, and study in a way that suits you. In the new HE
Academy Postgraduate Taught Experience survey, over 88% international graduates are
satisfied with their learning experience.
Have the adventure of a lifetime: Studying in the UK is a chance to discover its unique
culture, cities and countryside. Travel easily across England, Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland - there’s so much to discover.
For more information about studying in the UK visit www.educationuk.org/india/
We look forward to welcoming you as you join over 430,000 international students who
choose a world-class education by studying in the UK each year.
With best wishes

How did you find teaching and study methods in the UK?
All my travel expenses, visa fees, University tuition fees and the living costs are covered
by the scholarship as such I am very lucky that I can focus entirely on my studies.
In Bangladesh I had to attend classes 6 days a week , and here I attend far few classes
but they are very intense and there is a lot of self-study involved so I am spending a lot
of time in the library, I also had to exercise more self-discipline as professors expect the
students to do the work, but they do not pressure you to studying, if you get low marks
you will have only yourself to blame. A student can count on a lot of support mechanisms
which are in place – we have weekly drop in sessions where we can discuss any issues or
problems with our tutors, the Faculty has also organised special classes where one can
learn how to do referencing, how to structure the assignment etc. Each and every piece
of coursework can be discussed with the tutor before submitting, so that you can correct
any mistakes and make additional improvements to your work.
When I was studying in Bangladesh most of my classes were evaluated by exams so I
am very familiar with this kind of assessment, but on my course students are required to
submit assignments. Surprisingly I find writing them harder than taking exams, they do
require more independent research and I needed to develop and master new study skills.
My department has been very accommodating and they have allowed me to start my lab
work three months ahead of the schedule so that I can have more time to conduct my
experiments and get used to new way of studying.

Our vision
Our dedication is demonstrated through our £60 million investment plan, in
which we are developing the right teaching environment for our students. The
new Science and Health building, due to open to students in early 2017, will
provide state-of-the-art facilities for hospital simulation, rehabilitation, clinical
skills training, sport and exercise environments. The building will also include a
Biosciences super-lab and a range of life sciences research facilities.
• A real ambulance, which students are able to use as part of their studies.
• Our very own crime scene room, to investigate a variety of criminal
evidence, complete with fingerprinting equipment.
