General Mechanics:

1. The English Club members are in charge will be the facilitators of each particular event
assigned (will be appointed by the club moderator). Non-English Club members will be
the participants.
2. The dates indicated by asterisk (*)are tentative. They are subject for changes depending
on the school’s calendar of activities. Likewise, the proposed theme is to be changed if
the DepEd or the school provides one.
3. Competitions during the culminating activity are individual per class. The adviser of each
class shall choose a representative. On other hand, events are meant for big groups/ whole
class.
4. The role of class advisers are as follows:
a. Point out/ choose pupil/s or student/s who will be involved in particular contest/
events;
b. Decide on the selection of piece, as agreed upon by the class Adviser and the pupils
or students involved;
c. Supervise the practice; and
d. Follow-up/ monitor the presentation

5. The practice shall start immediately after respected classes (4:00-5:00) or vacant
time.Thus, the piece and names of participants shall be determined and submitted by the
advisers on or before one month ahead of time.
6. If changes as to the names occur, advisers shall inform the English Club Moderator or the
Student Coordinator at once. No changes shall be made on the last week of January 2017.
7. Lower Bed contest shall be held in the morning and Upper Bed contest will be done in
the afternoon.
8. There should be entry per class.
9. Judges’ decisions/results are FINAL.
Note: mechanics are still subject for changes and maybe revised with prior notice.

EVENTS OBJECTIVES

1. Realize the importance of English Language which is evident if they use it;
2. Hone ones English skills paying special attention to vocabulary and grammar;
3. Develop self-esteem by presenting in front of a audience;
4. Showcase talents and skills of pupils or students;
5. Reflect class unity; and
6. Expect healthy competition.

CRITERIA AND OBJECTIVE/s

Poetry Recital:
Objectives:
-To recite a poem using proper intonation, diction and rhythm; to show correct emotions;
demonstrate keen understanding of literature through poetry recital with proper interpretation.
1. Participants are free to choose poetry piece.
2. The poem should not exceed 200 words but not less than 50 words.
3. Participants should submit printed copies of contest piece one week before the event
proper.
4. The criteria for judging are as follows:
a. Delivery 40% Refers to the quality of voice, fluency,
Pronunciation and gesture/facial expression.
b. Interpretation 10% Refers to the manner the piece is internalized and
Presented including confidence
c. Stage Presence 10% Refers to the stage poise, eye contact, and audience
Impact.
d. Props & Costume /Attire(*School Uniform) 10% Attire and props are related to the
concept
e. Mastery of the Piece 30%
Total 100%
5. Any violation of the above mentioned rules will mean disqualification in joining the
competition.
6. The decision of the board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

Spelling Bee
1. Objective/s: To spell words correctly and learn from it.
Familiarize and know the meaning of some difficult English terms.
Mechanics:
1. There should be five (5) representative per year level.
2. Each participant should bring with him/her a 1/8 illustration board, chalk and a rag.
3. The participants will have 10 seconds to think about their answers.
4. There will be three rounds; easy, average and difficult with ten questions each.
5. Proctors will tally scores and eliminate participants after every round.
6. There will be three winners; the first, second and the third placer.

Quiz Bee
Objective/s: Answer grammar/vocabulary questions and learn from it.
Review and hammer the essentials in English (Parts and Figure of Speech, Subject-
Verb Agreement)
Mechanics:
2. There should be ten (10) representative per year level.
3. Each participant will bring one whole sheet of paper and ball pen only.
4. Questions will be provided by the English club.
5. There will be three rounds; easy, average and difficult with 20 questions each.
6. The proctor will ONLY read twice each question per item.
7. Proctors will tally scores and eliminate participants after every round.
8. Proctor/s will determine the winner and loser by adding the total score of each class
participants.
9. There will be three winners; the first, second and the third placer.

STORY TELLING AND MOBILE THEATRE

Objective: To tell and act a story with feeling and with facial expression taking note of correct
intonation, pronunciation and proper diction.
Mechanics:
1. Participants will be given privilege to choose their own story to present. Guidelines provided
by the club.

2. There should be 5-10 characters to act in the story to be presented.


2. The length of each story should not exceed 15 minute excluding entrance/exit and stage set up

3. The criteria for judging are as follows:


a. Delivery 50% Refers to the gestures/facial expression, appropriateness of the voice
pronunciation, and gestures.
b. Stage Presence 10% Refers to the stage poise, eye contact, and audience
Impact.
c. Props & Costume /Attire 30% Attire and props are related to the concept
d. Mastery of the Piece 10%
Total 100%
4. Any violation of the above mentioned rules will mean disqualification in joining the
competition.
5. The decision of the board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

Extemporaneous Speaking
1. One (1) representative per year level may join the Extemporaneous Speaking competition.
2. The representative should be able to effectively speak about a chosen topic.
3. The representative may decide to speak using either the informative or persuasive format.
4. The speech should focus on topics about peace and unity.
5. Contestants will speak one at a time. The speech should be delivered within 5-7 minutes.
6. The decision of the judges is final.
7. The performance will be judged based on the following elements: content, delivery and language
used.
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
Speech Development -Speech comes from reliable support materials, is structured around a
purpose, and includes an opening, body and conclusion. 30%
Speech Value -Speech is meaningful, original and is able to capture audience’s interest 20%
Delivery Speaker has pleasant appearance, poise, effective voice quality, volume and bodily
expression. Speech has qualities of directness, sincerity and flexibility 30%
Appropriate Language- Speaker uses appropriate choice of words that relate to the speech
purpose and to the particular audience 10%
Correctness of Language- Speaker follows proper grammar and correct pronunciation 10%
Total -100%
Speech Choir
MECHANICS

1. Allotted time for each presentation, both in the elimination and final rounds, is five
to

seven minutes including all preparation, entrance and exit of participants. A deduction of

one point will be given for each minute a team exceeds the time limit. No minimum time

for each presentation is required.

2. There shall be one contest piece (Typhoons by Rio Alma) for the elimination and
final

rounds. Editing the text and repetition of words or lines are allowed. A maximum of five

words may be altered, added or replaced.

3. Costumes and props and recorded music or sound effects are allowed.

4. Order of presentations both in the elimination and final rounds will be determined by
lots

at least a week before the competition.

5. In case of a tie, both in the elimination and final rounds, judges will deliberate to
break it.

6. The decision of the board of judges is final.

CRITERIA

Interpretation 30 pts. Refers to the manner in which

the piece is internalized and presented.

Delivery 30 pts. Refers to the quality of voice, fluency,

pronunciation, blending and harmony.

Stage Presence 10 pts. Refers to the stage poise, eye contact and

audience impact.

Costume, Props and 10 pts. Relevance to the over-all performance.

Sound Effects

Choreography and 10 pts. Appropriateness of blocking and movement,

Coordination gestures and stance.

Mastery of Piece 10 pts.

TOTAL 100 pts.

Dear Sister,

In behalf of English Club we wish you and your family a prosperous new year ahead! As the year 2017
approaches our club is in the planning stage of the upcoming English Month Celebration on February
2017. Likewise, we would like to inform you that we will have our LAUNCHING ACTIVITY on
January 13, 2017 and CULMINATING ACTIVITY on February 21, 2017.

In this regard, may I excuse the following English Club Officers (please see attached names) from their
respective classes for our emergency club meeting at 1:00 PM today.

Attached herewith the proposal of activities for the upcoming English Month Celebration subject for your
review and perusals.
