Horizons 8th Annual
Garage Sale this year is
on Thursday, July 26th,
in the Fellowship Hall @
St. John’s from 7AM – 5PM. As you are
downsizing or cleaning out, please consider
donating items. We accept all items in good
condition, including working appliances or
furniture. Children’s clothing only will be
accepted (NO adult clothing). Donations may be
dropped off on Tuesday, July 24 from Noon –
5PM or Wednesday, July 25 from 9AM – Noon.
All monies raised will be donated to Bright
Horizons for survivors of domestic violence and

Dear St. John’s Church –
Thank you for sending me to Carol Joy
Holling Camp. It was so much fun! My favorite
part was ziplining. I went to Trailhead. My
camp counselors were Sara and Peter. I hope to
go next year,

Pastor Randy Rasmussen currently lives in Nebraska
City, NE with his wife, Shelli and his son, Dylan 21.
His oldest daughter, Torrie, lives in Los Angeles,
CA, with her husband Eland and their daughter, Peat
4. Randy’s youngest daughter, Breanna 19, goes to
college in Peru, NE. Randy grew up in Southwestern
MN. He went to school for Agri Business and
eventually began working in Agricultural
Communications. He worked at several radio
stations in the upper Midwest as a Farm Broadcaster
and also worked for the National Association of
Farm Broadcasters.
He attended seminary in Berkeley, CA and was
recognized at this year’s Synod Assembly with 10
years of ordained ministry. Pastor Randy is currently
the Senior Pastor at First Lutheran Church in
Nebraska City. He is president of the local chapter of
the United Way, Lead Chaplain of the Nebraska City
Chaplain’s Association and Cluster Dean for the
Rolling Hills Cluster of Nebraska.
Shelli grew up in South Sioux City, where her
parents still live. Her oldest son, Dustyn 30 and his
wife, Jen, live in Dakota City, NE. Her youngest son,
Dillon 25 currently resides in Bakersfield, CA.
Pastor Randy & Shelli have a passion for mission
work that has led them to take several mission trips
to San Luis, Mexico. This passion has also ignited
them to be very active in the community. Pastor
Randy enjoys watching sports, golfing, running, and
lifting weights. The thing that Randy enjoys most is
spending time with family, whether it be his own
family, his church family or his “family” in Mexico
and sharing the Word of the Lord with them.

SCHOOL KITS!
To the children who receive school kits, these
supplies mean the difference between getting an
education or not. Public school is usually free, but in
places where LWR works, even a few required
supplies, like pens and paper, may be more than
many familis can afford. One school kit should
include:
4 -- 70 sheet NOTEBOOKS (wide or college
ruled)
1 RULER with inches and centimeters
1 PENCIL SHARPENER
1 blunt end SAFETY SCISSORS
5 unsharpened #2 PENCILS with erasers (secure
together with rubber band)
5 black or blue ballpoint PENS (no gel ink –
secure with a rubber band)
1 box of 16-24 CRAYONS
1 – 2 ½” ERASER
School bags have already been purchased. Donated
items may be placed in the washtub in the west hall.

a computer. If you don’t have access to a computer,
a complete directory can be printed for you.
If you need to update your address, phone #, or email
address, please make those changes on your
Registration Slip or in the rear of the sanctuary
where you can view and update any information on a
printed directory. Please initial if you agree that the
information is already complete. Thank you for your
assistance in this huge task!
Two Weeks Until Polar Blast VBS!
The Three Coolest Days of Summer!
At Polar Blast VBS, kids will go on an icy
cool adventure where they’ll discover
that Jesus will always love them: this
VBS is filled with incredible Bible-
learning experiences kids see, hear, and
touch. Team-building games, cool Bible
songs, and multisensory Bible
adventures are just a few of the activities
that help faith flow into real life. Caution:
Things might get a little messy, so have
them wear play clothes and sturdy
shoes!
Look for Jolene in the back of the
sanctuary between services to get
your free music CD or digital
download by registering early today.
First come, first serve! Kids can
listen to the songs they will be
hearing and singing at VBS.
