Reasons for step-by-step retrofits

• The investment is lower. The execution of single measures is

easier when the budget is limited (the higher quality might better
be achieved)

• The measures can be limited to single (potentially empty) flats /

units or parts / sections of buildings.

• Rented objects do not need to be emptied.

• Components can be used until the end of their life cycles.

• „Motivated“ measures, which don´t depend on life cycles, can

easier be implemented

One Step to Deep Retrofits Jan Steiger / Passive House Institute

Reasons for one-shot retrofits

• Synergy effects: Only one scaffolding is needed, construction site

facilities or approvals only need to be set up once.

• No solutions for intermediate situations need to be found and

implemented.

• Business in public or commercial buildings will only be

interrupted once.

•Cost savings by energy efficiency measures are immediately

available

•Execution costs aren´t dependent on future price developments
