Essentials________________________________________________________
A physical environment conducive for learning is one that has consistent practices that:

 keep the school safe, clean, orderly and free from distraction;
 maintain facilities that provide challenging activities; and
 address the physical, social and psychological needs of the students.
My Tools

As you move around the campus, activity forms are provided for you to document your
observations. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before proceeding to the school site. A good
understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity sheets will yield better learning
results.

The School is located at Santol St., Relocation, Brgy. Sto. Niño, Tugbok District. It is also near
Philippine Science High School-Mindanao Campus and Mintal Comprehensive High School-Annex
Building. It is surrounded by residential houses.

The area of the school campus is very wide. Upon entering the school, you will notice the
gymnasium stands right in the middle of the school. It has a newly constructed 4-storey building
located at the eastern part of the school. The color of the walls are cream while the roof is green
which are mostly typical colors in public schools. The classrooms are separated according to their
respective levels. Some of the classrooms are already old based on the structure but still in good
condition. The grade 5 classrooms had been recently renovated.

The principal’s office and guidance’s office are very well organized and is well maintained.
The rooms are clean and well ventilated. The ambience of these offices resonate a very positive
outlook.

The school hall isn’t noticeable since it’s an open area. The library is not that large but
everything is organized. The encyclopedias are arranged in order and there are many useful
learning materials available to use. The cafeteria is quite small but it can cater to every students in
the school.

Overall, the school surrounding is kept clean at all times, it has the necessary facilities, and
equipment that will help develop the student’s learning.

They use the projector for film viewing.

My Analysis

How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact the learning of the students going to
school? What are your conclusions?

- In the way that having a good quality of facilities can affect the student’s behavior and way of
thinking. The environment creates the learner’s surrounding so that the school campus and
classroom must be conducive for learning. Proper lighting and ventilation is important that is
why most students in that school are attentive.

How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/How does this relate to
your knowledge of facilitating learning?
- In such a way that the student is more productive if they have good facilities in their school
and conducive environment for them to be able to have a positive outlook towards life and
effective learning.

My Reflections/Insights

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?

- Yes. The school’s environment may not be perfect but the ambience is conducive for learning.
Even if they have a lot of students, they can still focus in teaching them quality education and
give them proper attention and maintaining good relationship with the student.

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

- The school campus, which is conducive for learning, is the one with a quiet atmosphere, where
there are also trees that would provide fresh air and away from pollution. The offices are
organized, accommodating and well-ventilated rooms. Most of all, the availability of the
facilities and equipment to the students are always available and in pristine condition.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

- The classroom must be well illuminated, well ventilated, the desks are arranged properly and
the room must be clean at all times. It should have a lot of learning materials posted on the
wall to motivate the students to learn.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

- I can be able to accomplish those things by maintaining the classroom equipment and facilities
and make sure that everything in the classroom including the desks and chairs are arranged
properly and at the same time I should be able to familiarize and utilize the learning materials
so as to make the students be motivated

5. Write your additional learning and insights here.

- I learned that teaching in public school with many noisy students is not easy, so that it is
required that you have a long patience and you have to control emotion. I realized that every
learner needs a learning environment that would help them processing effectively their
knowledge and skills taught by their teachers.

My Learning Portfolio

My Personal Illustration of an Effective School Environment

An effective school environment is one that provides to students the opportunity to

achieve high standards that they can use in their future. A school where student feel safe
and happy; an environment that will promote those values that will help pupils to become
good and responsible citizens, enable them to become involved in their community and
become good family members.

While at the school during their developing relationship with others. There are
necessary qualities that seems to influence student’s way of thinking and positive results in
school’s environment. When student think that they belong to a good school they have the
sense of belonging and being a part of the school. Student embrace their environment
when they believe that the faculty and others care about them especially their academic
standing, emotions and be able to be successful in life.

Quality education that someday will help us to produce an economically free citizens.
Students today are very lucky unlike of the past generations. They do not even have their
proper education nor have the well- ventilated classroom. I tried to ask myself on how lucky
I am because today, everything is equipped with modern technology.
