BOKELA Vacuum Drum Filters
Economic & Sustainable Solutions for Filtration, Washing and Dewatering

BOKELA drum filters enable economic and sustainable solutions for filtration, washing and
dewatering of a wide range of products in the
minerals, salt, chemical, pharmaceutical and food industry.

The modern BOKELA drum filters provide superior process results when it comes to filtration,
washing and dewatering of numerous products such as
crystallisation and precipitation products, pigments, food products, residues, …
coarse, fine and ultrafine particles

Superior Performance and Operation through Innovative Filter Design

BOKELA vacuum drum filters are modern

high performance filters. The innovative
filter design results in superior performance
and operation characteristics.

BOKELA drum filters

have an individual design
are adapted to process and
product requirements
have superior hydraulic
characteristics
improve cake washing without
increasing the cake moisture
increase throughput by
50% to 75%
complete cake discharge even
at high filter speed

-2-
Fit for Challenging Applications

single cells for quick change of cloth

leading & trailing filtrate pipes
discharge by air blow back
large process angles α1, α2 αW
encased bearings
water lubrication i.e.
no grease or oil lubrication
excellent accessibility
easy maintenance & cleaning
modular system:
- capsulation
- vent hood
agitator drive
- CIP-System
deflector plate and cloth wash bar (beneath)

Exchangeable Filter Cells Make Re-clothing Fast and Easy

The innovative BOKELA single cell design takes advantage of individual filter elements as known
from rotary disc filters. The filter cloth is made as bag and each cell can be exchanged individually.

re-clothing in only 1 hour by

exchanging of pre-clothed cells
no wiring and no sash cords for
cloth fixing necessary
no power tools or excessive force

-4-
Filtrate Pipe Design – Optimal Drainage and Separation of Filtrates

The exchangeable filter cells are

connected to external, lateral filtrate
pipes:

leading and trailing pipes ensure a

quick and complete emptying of
the filter cell

excellent filtrate drainage

trailing pipe optimal filtrate separation

compressed air blowback parallel

leading pipe
to the filter cloth by lateral air inlet
− prevents cloth from damage
− leads to optimized cake
discharge

-5-

Control Head – Design for High Hydraulic Capacity

Pressure loss of a two-phase flow is up to 10 times higher than pressure loss of a single-phase
flow. Therefore, the control head is designed to pre-separate filtrate from air as far as possible.

More than 90% of the incoming filtrate/air

mixture is separated into a gas and liquor
flow. Entrainment of filtrate from the cake
formation zone into wash and/or dewatering
zone is prevented.

Standard Design:
2 filtrate outlets and one snap-blow
bridge blocks for variable process
zones (as required)
back-suction of filter cloth
exchangeable wear protection
Options:
bubbling zone
Pre-separation control head
3rd filtrate outlet

Option: Cake Washing (Wash Hood)

Full cone nozzles

middle to large wash ratios

good, plane-like distribution of wash water

-7-

Cake Discharge – Snap Blow System

The filter cake is discharged completely with low overpressure thanks to quick blowback impulse
exactly timed by a snap blow valve.
