Checklist

Introduction: Does your introduction give context to your story (time, place, other
characters, how you thought/were before, etc.)



Does your body (main paragraphs) tell what happened in detail?


Topic sentences: Does it introduce the topic of that paragraph? Does it include a
transition or hook?

Body paragraphs: Does each body paragraph tell about part of the event? Is each

body paragraph on only one topic

Details: Does your story include details? Have you included sensory details? Are
your details necessary (do they ADD something to the story or do they distract from
what you’re retelling?)?


Voice: Does your writing sound like you? Have you considered word choice, dialect,

dialogue, etc. to give your writing voice?


Conclusion: In your last paragraph have you explained what the event taught you or
how it changed you? Have you discussed the differences between how you were
before and after? Have you told us how it might continue to affect you?

Complete sentences: Are all of your sentences complete? (Do they all have a subject,
verb, and complete thought?)


Rubric: Have you reviewed the A column of the rubric? Do you understand what is
necessary to earn an A and have you met those requirements?

Editing Checklist


Did you make sure to correctly capitalize all of your letters/words?




Did you make sure to include punctuation at the end of every
sentence?




Do you have correct paragraphs that are divided by subject/time?




Did you make sure to put your name and a title? A header? (your
name, my name, class, date)



Did you make sure each sentence is one complete thought but NOT
many complete thoughts joined together?




Did you read your paper aloud to make sure you haven't made any grammar
mistakes?



Did you have a peer and adult give feedback? Did you use that feedback?




Did you have a teacher edit it? Did you use my feedback?
