ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES

PSY105 General Psychology

Guidelines:
For the group assignment, you are required to:

1. Form an assignment group that consists of 5-6 persons.


2. Think of ONE problem (e.g., stress, substance abuse, unhealthy lifestyle, low self-esteem, difficult
child, etc.) among a certain group of people or general society. This problem will be the main focus of
your group assignment.
3. Post the selected problem of your group in Blackboard (under “Discussions”) as soon as possible, as
ONE problem can only be chosen by ONE group, which based on first come, first served basis.
4. Arrange and write your group assignment according to the flow and guidelines below:
Chapter 1: Introduction
 Briefly introduce the selected problem.
 Describe how this problem negatively affects individuals and the people around them (with
supports).
 Words limit: Not more than 200 words.
Chapter 2: Application in Educational Video
 Make an educational video to educate individuals to change or to cope with their own problem
and to educate people around the individual some ways to help the individual to change or cope
with his/her problem.
The length of the video should be about 5 minutes (+/- 1 minute is acceptable).
 Contents of the video:
- State TWO ways to educate individuals to change or to cope with their own problem.
- State TWO ways to educate people around the individual to help the individual to change or
cope with his/her problem.
 In written assignment: Relate your suggested ways (in the video) to the theories/concepts of
psychology (with supports).
 Words limit: Not more than 1,000 words.
Chapter 3: Conclusion
 Make a relevant conclusion base on your creativity.
 Words limit: Not more than 200 words.
* Include word count in the bottom right corner of every chapter or subpart.

References
 The list of references for ALL the sources cited in the assignment.
Appendices
 Photocopied page(s) of the other books (that other than main text) which you have used as
reference (if any).

* You can also look for other psychology books as extra references.
(If you were to do so, you are REQUIRED to photocopy the particular page(s) in the book that
mentioned about the information that you had cited, and attach it in the APPENDICES of the
assignment)

Format:
 Font: Times New Roman.
 Font size: 12
 Line Spacing: Double spacing.
 Margin: 1 inch / 2.54cm for ALL sides
 Referencing style: APA, 6th edition (American Psychological Association)

 Use side stapler binding or tape binding (which will turn out like a book), no need to use plastic cover.
 For group assignment ONLY: Front page should consists of:
 Logo of INTI International College Penang
 Current semester
 Subject (e.g., PSY 105 General Psychology)
 Group number
 Name, student ID, and intake (e.g., January 2013) of every members
 Lecturer’s name
 Date of Submission

Submission:
 Hard copy (Deadline: 27/10/16, during lecture class)
- Complete assignment: Cover page  Appendices
- CD: Educational video
 Soft copy [upload to Bb] (Deadline: 27/10/16, by 9pm)
- Complete assignment + journal articles that used as references (if any)
- Educational video

Assessment of Group Assignment:

5. APA format 10%
Total 50% (will be converted into 20%)
* Tips to get more marks:
- Stick as close as possible to the word limit (+/- 50 words for chapters 1 and 3 is acceptable;
+/- 100 words for chapter 2 is acceptable)
- The criteria of assessment for written assignment including: Organization, comprehensiveness, concise,
critical / analytical, academic writing, and reliable support.
- The criteria of assessment for video including: Appropriateness of contents, good presentation of ideas,
convincing, interesting / attractive / creative, and complies with the length limit.

* Each group will be given 20 minutes for presentation + video (not including time for Q & A).
* You are required to include this assessment table and order of presenters in your presentation slides
(refer “Compulsory Slides for Group Presentation” for more information).
* Every group is REQUIRED to print out the slides handout and give it to me on the presentation day of
your group.
* E-mail the soft copy of the slides to me before 9pm on that day.

* Plagiarism is STRICTLY PROHIBITED; any kind of plagiarism detected in the assignment will results in
FAILURE (in assignment).
