3 Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and
professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards.
Description
Field experiences, both structured and unstructured, were required throughout the
opportunities to demonstrate our learning throughout our courses as well as show our
effectiveness as Instructional Technology leaders. The field experience artifact chosen for this
standard was an unstructured field experience log. Through this experience, I created a
professional development session for our district-wide Cobb InTech Conference. For this
professional development session, I demonstrated the effective uses of the FlipGrid online
software in the classroom. This session included several demonstrations, basic troubleshooting
Standard Mastery
The Cobb InTech Conference Field Experience Log artifact demonstrates my standard
mastery through showing my systesizing and application of professional content through my own
demographic of the staff attending as well as show my expert knowledge in the FlipGrid
software. By understanding these two things, I was able to present my knowledge of FlipGrid in
a manner that best allowed for my audience to learn. Throughout this experience, dispositions
were demonstrated through modeling digital equity as well as the ability to troubleshoot with my
audience when questions arose. The idea of learning together as equals instead of one expert to
an audience of novices proved to be vital with the success of this professional development
session.
Learning Gained
The Cobb InTech Conference Field Experience artifact taught me many new things, but
most importantly the need for understanding how my audience receives information. If my
session was not presented in a manner in which my audience learns best then my knowledge
would not be effective. As with our students it is crucial to incorporate various learning styles
and I learned that this is also the case with adult learners. In reflecting on this experience, one
area I would do differently is to possibly provide other examples of student learning through
FlipGrid in various grade levels rather than just my own students. By doing this, I would be able
to better collaborate with teachers who are outside of my school and broaden my own global
awareness.
The Cobb InTech Conference greatly impacted our district-wide staff through
modeling and facilitating the best use of the FlipGrid software, other staff members can now
utilize this effective strategy within their own classrooms which will in turn have a great impact
on student learning.
