Después de algunas horas de navegación encontré la solución a un pequeño pero

molesto problema, agregar la letra Ñ a mi PC portátil con teclado en inglés. Todo esto lo
realice en Windows 7 y puede que varié un poco para Windows Vista y aun más en
Windows XP.

Aunque usar la combinación de teclas ALT + 164 ó ALT + 165 para obtener ñ ó Ñ
respectivamente no es muy difícil, para muchas personas es un poco complicado de
memorizarlas.

El cambiar la configuración del teclado a español no es una buena opción ya que los
símbolos no quedan en sus respectivas teclas por defecto, encontrar y memorizar sus
nuevas ubicaciones es toda una odisea.

La solución que encontré es cambiar la configuración del teclado pero dejando una
configuración de inglés internacional. La ventaja es que los símbolos quedan en su lugar
por defecto en el teclado y para obtener la letra ñ solo tienes que presionar la tecla ALT
(DERECHA con la IZQUIERDA NO FUNCIONA) más la letra N ó la vocal que
quieras acentuar, por ejemplo:

ALT + N = Ñ
ALT + A = Á
ALT + E = É
ALT + I = Í
ALT + O = Ó
ALT + U = Ú
ALT + / = ¿
ALT + = ¡

Para escribir en mayúsculas, utiliza la tecla SHIFT delante de la combinación de teclas

o directamente activa la tecla CAPS LOCK.

Este método es valido para escribir en el Office, Internet … en todo lugar donde se

pueda escribir

Para configurar el teclado a Ingles de Estados Unidos – Internacional debes hacer

lo siguiente:
Abre el panel de control y da click en “Reloj, Idioma y región”

Luego, en la ventana que aparece, da click en “cambiar idioma para mostrar”

Luego ve a la pestaña “Teclados e idiomas” y da click en “Cambiar teclados…”

En este punto es importante que si tu teclado trae la configuración de Ingles de
estados Unidos lo cambies a Ingles Estados Unidos – Internacional. Da click en
agregar
Selecciona Ingles Estados Unidos – Internacional y le das aceptar
En este menú selecciona Ingles Estados Unidos – Internacional
Después selecciona el teclado de Estados Unidos y le das quitar, por ultimo aplicar y
aceptar
Eso es todo, ahora ya puedes obtener la letra Ñ con solo presionar las teclas ALT +
N simultáneamente.

Vale la pena aclarar que la tecla ALT (derecha) corresponde a la tecla ALT GR que
en el caso de mi teclado tampoco la trae y creo que es el mismo caso de los teclados que
viene configurados para Estados Unidos.

Este es otro metodo pero mas “ latoso “

Character Map Utility

The Character Map utility is free on all Windows machines and can be used to copy
and paste accented letters and other foreign language characters characters into any
Windows application. The Character Map is similar to the Insert Symbol tool found in
some Windows applications such as Microsoft Word.
To open the Character Map utility:
1. Click on the Start (Windows Icon) menu in the lower left, then select All
Programs.

2. Select Programs » Accessories » System Tools » Character Map.
TIP: If you use the Character Map a lot, you may want to make a Shortcut
(alias) to it on your Desktop or add it to your Start menu.
3. A window should open which displays a series of characters in a grid as in the
image below.

In the Character Map

1. Make sure that the Font from the dropdown list matches that of the document
you are creating. If you doing some other function, such as filling out a Web
form, select Times New Roman as the Font.
2. Look in the grid for the symbol you want. If necessary, use the scroll bars on the
right to view more characters.
NOTE: Many Windows fonts include Cyrillic and Greek letters by default. For
other scripts, use Arial Unicode or some other appropriate font.
3. If the character you want is not in the grid, change the font to Arial Unicode
MS, Tahoma, Times New Roman, or some other appropriate font.
4. To narrow selection by Unicode block, check the Advanced View at the bottom
to reveal additional menus. In the Group By menu, select a Unicode Subrange
to open a pop-up. Click the block to see available characters in that font.

5. Double-click on any character you wish to insert then click the Select button to
make it appear in the Characters to Copy field. You can Select more than one
character at this time.
6. Highlight one or more of the characters in the Characters to Copy field you
wish to insert then click the Copy button.

Pasting Symbol in Document

1. Minimize from the Character Map window, and open or switch to the
application window in which you wish to insert the character.
2. Position your cursor in the location you wish to insert the character.
3. Under the Edit Menu, choose Paste (or use the keyboard shortcut Control+V).
The character should appear.
4. If necessary, change the font of the inserted character to the one selected in the
Character Map.
