Deepika Kumari wins gold at Salt Lake World Cup in individual recurve final
Archer Deepika Kumari, who previously won four silver medals at an Archery World Cup stage, has finally
succeeded in getting gold for India at Salt Lake. It is her first individual gold in five years at the Salt Lake World
Cup. She competed against Germany’s Michelle Kroppen and won by 7-3 in the recurve final. After this triumph,
she will be representing India at the Archery World Cup Final in Samsun, Turkey in October.

Chennai Super Kings: The Ultimate Kings of IPL 2018
The Chennai Super Kings won the IPL 2018 against the SunRisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the high-voltage
clash at the overcrowded Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. All credit goes to Shane Watson's unbeaten 117 runs off
57 balls, that ultimately turned the match in favor of the CSK. It was an astounding comeback by the team after
serving two years of the ban.

goes to Chris Gayle's stupendous batting
The team of Kings XI Punjab marked a remarkable win by 15-runs against SunRisers Hyderabad in yesterday's
match in Mohali. All credit goes to Chris Gayle for scoring 104-runs off 63-balls leading to the victory of its team by
15-runs. It was Gayle’s sixth century in the overall IPL seasons. After this match, Chris Gayle became the first
player who has scored a century in the IPL 2018.

India positioned at third, grabs a total of 66 medals in the CWG 2018
Including 26 gold medals in its medal tally, India has earned the third position in the Commonwealth Games 2018
held in Gold Coast, Australia. With a total of 66 medals, it has surpassed its medal tally of Glagow Commonwealth
Games 2014 by 2 medals. On the final day of the Games, Saina Nehwal claimed her victory by winning a gold
medal in an all-Indian final of women's singles in badminton against P V Sindhu, who won a silver medal. Joshna
Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal won a silver medal in the finals of the women's doubles in squash. The phenomenal
Indian shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth also won a silver medal in the finals of the men's singles. Table tennis player,
Manika Batra created history by winning the first ever women's singles table tennis gold for India. India is really
proud of its 200-strong athletics, who performed brilliantly throughout the tournament and ranked it on the third
position. The total medal count of India comes to 66 with a total of 26 gold medals, 20 silver medals and 20 bronze
medals.

Shooter, Anish Bhanwala won India's 16th gold medal at the Commonwealth Games
2018
Anish Bhanwala has succeeded in getting India's 16th gold medal on Friday. He became the youngest gold
medalist from India at the Games. Anish shot a total score of 30 to win the finals. He faced tough competition from
20-year-old Australian shooter, Sergei Evglevski and 28-year-old Sam Gowin of England. But he kept himself
focused through all the eight rounds to finally, emerge on the top.

Om Prakash Mitharval wins second bronze medal in men's 50m pistol category
On Wednesday morning, Om Prakash Mitharval won his second bronze medal and secured a third place in the
50m pistol category at the Commonwealth Games 2018. He scored a total of 201.1 in the medal round to secure
bronze medal. Earlier, he had won a bronze medal in men's 10m pistol shooting category.

Indian boxing legend, Mary Kom enters the finals of women's 48kg boxing category
On Wednesday morning, Indian boxer, Mary Kom, secured her position in the finals of the women's 48kg boxing
category after winning her semi-finals.She defeated Sri Lanka's Anusha Koddithuwakku with 5-0 verdict. She
became the first Indian boxer to get into the finals of the Commonwealth Games 2018.She will fight for the gold in
the finals against Kristina O’Hara (Nigeria) and Tasmyn Benny (New Zealand). The final match will take place on
14th april.

CWG 2018: Jitu Rai wins gold, Om Mitharval wins bronze in men's 10m Air Pistol
On Monday morning, India again became proud when Jitu Rai won a gold medal in 10m Air Pistol category and
set a new Commonwealth Games record.His compatriot, Om Mirthaval equalled the qualification games record
and won a bronze medal in the finals. Mirthaval shot a total of 214.3 and lost silver to Kerry Bell of Australia, who
shot a total of 233.5 in the game. With the addition of these two medals, India has won 15 medals since the last
five days of CWG 2018.

CWG 2018: Gold medalist, Tejaswin Shankar enters the finals of high jump category
Gold medalist at Youth Commonwealth Games and national record holder, Tejaswin Shankar entered the finals of
the high jump competition after finishing ninth in the qualifying round. He finished a joint fifth in group A and ninth
overall. He made a start at 2.10m and cleared with 2.21m in final analysis.The finals of the high jump category is
scheduled on April 14.

Weighlifter Sathish Sivalingam bring India's third gold medal
Its a big day for India as the country won its third gold medal for weighlifting. Wighlifter Sathish Sivalingam won a
gold medal in the 77 kg category. Its a third gold medal for India so far after Mirabai Chanu and Sanjita Chanu in
the opening two days in the weighlifting category. After three attempts, he managed to lift a total of 144 kg in the
snatch and 179 kg in the clean and jerk in second attempt. He defeated his contender, Jack Oliver of England by
5 kg and secured the CWG title he won four years back in Glasgow.

Woman weightlifter Sanjita Chanu wins second gold for India on the 2nd day of
CWG 2018
Sanjita Chanu, a woman weighlifter, won gold in the women's 53 kg category for India on the second day of the
competition. She lifted a total of 192 kg in the competition. She made a new CWG record by lifting 84 kg in the
snatch category and then lifted 108 kg in the clean and jerk.She competed against Loa Dika Toua of Papua New
Guinea and Canada’s Rachel Leblanc-Bazinet. She made her first attempt of 81 kg in the snatch and took the lead.

Dhoni Receives Padma Bhushan
MS Dhoni, the former Indian cricket team captain, has been awarded Padma Bhushan. President Ramnath Kovind
awarded the former skipper the 3rd highest civilian honour on April 2, 2018. The date is significant since it falls on
the same day team India won the World Cup against Sri Lanka under Dhoni's captaincy. A number of ministers
and players posted congratulatory messages for the cricketer on Twitter.

IPL 2018: Steve steps down as Royals captain
Australian skipper Steve Smith has stepped down as the captain of IPL Team Rajasthan Royals, which is owned
by Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, in the upcoming 11th edition of Indian Premier League starting on April 7. Smith
is given a one-test ban by ICC and this decision to step down came in the wake of the severe backlash he has
faced after he admitted to ball tampering during the third Test against South Africa. Ajinkya Rahane, who is the
Test vice-captain of India has been named as the new skipper of Rajasthan Royals.

Australia beats India by 36 runs in the 4th match
In Women T-20 series, Australia defeated India by 36 runs in the fourth match. India won the toss and invited the
Aussies to bat first. India had to chase a score of 187 runs which they failed to achieve and lost the match. The
final of T-20 series will be held on the 31st of this month.

Indian Badminton player PV Sindhu stormed into the semi-finals of the All England Open Badminton tournament
which is taking place in Birmingham on Friday. Sindhu will play against Japan's Akane Yamaguchi for a place in
finals on Saturday. PV Sindhu is the open shuttler left in the tournament after HS Prannoy lost the quarter-final
against China's Yuxiang Huang.

All England Championship: Saina crashes out
The Indian Star shuttler Saina Nehwal made a first-round exit from the All England Championship at Birmingham
on Thursday. Saina was defeated by the World number one Tai Tzu-Ying from Chinese Taipei. This was the eighth
successive loss of Saina to the Taiwanese wizard in five years. Another Indian player, Kidambi Srikanth was able
to progress to the quarterfinals after beating Frenchman Brice Leverdez.

ISSF World Cup: Manu Bhaker wins Gold
Manu Bhaker, 16-year-old Indian athlete bagged a gold medal beating the host country’s Alejandra Zavala, a two-
time World Cup Finals winner, with a 10.8 in the last shot of the 24 shot final, to come out on top with a score of
237.5. Zavala ended at 237.1 and won silver, while Celine Goberville of France won the bronze with a score of
217. India's Yashaswini Singh Deswal scored 196.1 points missed the medal and came fourth. In men's 10 meters
Air-rifle event Ravi Kumar won a Bronze, which was his first World Cup medal in the ISSF World Cup in
Guadalajara, Mexico.

India has won by 124 runs against South Africa in the third One Day International. With this, India has taken a 3-0
lead. This is the biggest win for India against South Africa in South Africa in terms of runs. Earlier, on February 5,
Indian women's cricket team won against South Africa by 88 runs in Kimberley taking a lead of 1-0.

Virat Kohli scores 33rd century in ODI
India secured its first win in 2018 in Durban. Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli also scored his 33rd century in
ODI on Thursday. He secured 112 runs off 119 balls. The match was against South Africa in Durban, South Africa.
It was the first time in 2018 that the captains of both the teams secured a century in the ODIs.

had beaten Afghanistan by six wickets in the first semifinal match on Monday.

World Super Series Final: PV Sindhu wins Silver
PV Sindhu won the Silver medal in World Superseries Final at Dubai. Though, she lost the match to Japan's Akane
Yamaguchi in the final which was held in Dubai, but she managed to win silver medal and several hearts. It was a
neck-to-neck fight. The match continued for over 94 minutes leaving both the players extremely exhausted. The
tussle between the two players was a treat to watch and every moment of the match was considered thrilling. In
the first match, Sindhu took a lead but later Yamaguchi made a vigorous comeback by 15-21, 21-12, 21-19 which
ultimately led to her victory. Sindhu is the second Indian female shuttler to win a silver medal in the season-ending
tournament. First was Saina Nehwal.

M C Mary Kom wins gold medal in 48 kg category in Asian Women's Boxing
Championship.
Mary Kom notched up her fifth gold medal in 48 kg category in Asian Women's Boxing Championships at Ho Chi
Minh City in Vietnam. She has won World Championship 5 times and has Olympic Bronze medal to her credit. This
was Mary Kom’s fifth final in only six appearances, which means she remains unbeaten in the summit clash of the
continental championship.
This is Mary Kom's first international gold medal since the 2014 Asian Games and her first medal in over a year.

Indian women's hockey team lifts Asia Cup title
India beat China 5-4 in Women's Asia Cup final held at Kakamigahara in Japan. The match was a nail-biting one.
At full time, both teams were level One-One. Navjot Kaur in the 25th minute scored for India and was equalised by
Tiantian Luo of China when she converted a penalty corner in the 47th minute. With this win India Qualifies for
2018 World Cup. South Korea secured third place with a 1-0 win over Japan. The last time India won the Women's
Asia Cup title was in 2004. This is the second Asia cup title.

Amanpreet wins bronze at ISSF World Cup Final
Amanpreet Singh of India clinched a bronze medal in his maiden appearance in an International Shooting Sport
Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final being held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.Amanpreet, who has appeared
in 21 World Cups so far, won his first medal at the ISSF World Cup earlier in March this year when he clinched a
silver medal in the 50m pistol event.Earlier, ace shooters Jitu and Heena Sidhu brought joy to the Indian squad by
striking gold in the 10m mixed team air pistol event on the opening day on Tuesday.

India to play three test matches in South Africa
As stated in a media release, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that India will play three
Test Matches against South Africa in a tour beginning on January 5th. The BCCI acting secretary stated in a media
release, “ India will play South Africa in a three match 'Mahatma Gandhi Nelson Mandela' Test Series, six-match One
Day Internationals (ODI) Test series followed by three Twenty20 Internationals.” Initially Indian Cricket Team was
supposed to play 4 Tests, 3ODIs and 3 Twenty20 Internationals. Indian Cricket team last toured South Africa in
2013.

P V Sindhu settles with silver in World Badminton Championship at Glasgow
In an exciting and hard fought final on Sunday, India's ace shuttler P.V. Sindhu had to settle with silver medal. The
final lasted for about one hour forty nine minutes. Sindhu lost to Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 19-21,22-20,20-22. Their
match was the longest in the World Championships. India's ace shuttlers P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal made India
proud at the World Championship by bagging a silver and a bronze medal. For the first time India has bagged two
medals in the World Badminton Championship.

Pandya and Kuldeep help India to sail through day 2 of third test of India vs Sri
Lanka Series
On day two of the third and final test of India vs Sri Lanka series at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pandya
smashed a maiden test hundred in 86 balls. In the first innings, Sri Lanka was bowled by the Indian bowlers at 135
wherein Kuldeep Yadav took 4 for 40 and Shami claimed two wickets. Pandya's aggressive knock aided India to
487 runs at the end of the day. Pandya scored 26 runs off Malinda Pushpakumara's over smashing 3 sixes and 2
fours. His 26 runs off an over were the most runs scored by an Indian batsman in an over in Test Cricket.

Davinder Singh Kang becomes the first Indian to qualify for Javelin finals, World
Athletics Championship
With a best effort of 84.22m, Davinder Singh Kang becomes the first Indian to qualify for the final round of the
javelin throw at the World Athletics Championship. Kang, a 26 year old athlete from Punjab, completed his final
throw of 84.22m spectacularly. This is the first time ever that an Indian has qualified in the men's javelin throw final
round in the World Championship. Despite his shoulder injury, Davinder Singh Kang performed brilliantly, while
Neeraj Chopra succumbed at 82.26m in his best effort and could not qualify.

Ravindra Jadeja suspended from the third and final Test against Sri Lanka in
Pallekele
Amidst being the Man of the Match for the second Test against Sri Lanka and having 6 demerit points in 24 month
period, Ravindra Jadeja faces one match suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Jadeja has been
suspended from the 3rd test of the Sri Lanka vs India Test Series to be held from August 12 in Pallekele. Jadeja
faces this suspension after an incident which took place during Sri Lanka's second inning when Jadeja threw the
ball back at the batsman after fielding off his own bowling, the batsman had not left his crease.

India beat Pakistan by 124 runs in ICC Champions Trophy match
This may be an old, storied rivalry but in recent years these games have been anything but competitive. It was
more of the same as India cruised to a 124-run victory. Pakistan’s target, adjusted to 324, was further revised to
289 in 41 overs following more showers.
After India had been asked to bat, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 136 for the opening wicket, before
Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli clubbed Pakistan around in thrilling fashion. Hardik Pandya walked in ahead of MS
Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav, and clobbered three successive sixes as Imad Wasim found himself stuck with last-over
duties. India scored 72 off the last four overs.The end was all too swift for Pakistan, which lost its last six wickets
for 50 runs.

FIFA President Infantino Congratulates Aizawl FC on Winning First National Title
As per reports, through a letter addressed to president of All India Football Association, the FIFA President Gianni
Infantino congratulated the Aizawl FC on winning the I-League championship. In his letter Infantino congratulated
the players, coach and staff of the club for spreading the positive message of football.
In the second match of Federation Cup 2017, Aizawl FC is scheduled to play Chennai City FC on Sunday.

for building Manipur-based National Sports University (NSU). Sundargarh district administration has been asked by

Sundargarh district administration has said that it has become very difficult for earmarking a single patch of land
that is more than 100 acres.

BCCI Receives Notice from Kerala High Court for Lifting Sreesanth's Lifetime Ban
As per reports, BCCI has received a petition from the Kerala High Court on Friday for lifting the ban which was
imposed on S Sreesanth. The step was taken after Sreesanth had sent a petition to court requesting the same.
Sreesanth is one of the cricketers who was charged for spot-fixing during the IPL 6 in 2013.

ISSF World Cup: Jitu Rai Won Bronze Medal
As per reports, Ace pistol shooter Jitu Rai bagged the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol event for the third podium
finish of India in ISSF World Cup. In the eight man final, Rai shot a total of 216.7 and finished the third on the
podium.
Rai in an interview said that initially he was in doubt if he would be able to win. But as it started, he climbed the
ladder one by one.

India successfully tested a formidable supersonic cruise missile BrahMos on Thursday at 8:42 AM. The test was
conducted from Pokhran test range in Rajasthan. Defence Minister Nirmala Sithraman congratulated the Armed
Forces, Defence Research and Development Organization and Defence Industry for their successful attempt.

India successfully tests nuclear-capable Short Range Ballistic Missile(SRBM) Agni-
1
India has successfully tested nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Short Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) Agni-1 with
a strike range of over 700 km from a test range on Tuesday. The test was conducted from Abdul Kalam island off
the coast of Orissa. According to reports, the test was conducted by the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) of Indian
Army with logistic support from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for a range of about
900 km.

Surface ballistic missile Agni 5 tested successfully
India successfully tested its surface-to-surface ballistic missile Agni-5 on Thursday. The strike range of the missile
is over 5,000 kilometers. The missile is the most advanced of the Agni series. The missile was tested from a test
range off the Odisha coast. It has new technologies implemented in terms of navigation, radar, and tracking system.

Supersonic ballistic missile test successful in the first attempt
India has successfully tested its indigenously developed Advanced Air Defence supersonic interceptor missile
which is capable of destroying any incoming enemy ballistic missile at low altitude. The test was conducted by a
female scientist Dr. Shashikala Sinha, who is popularly known as “new missile woman” in India these days. It is a
big achievement for her as the test was successful in the first attempt.

Indian Air Force submits RFP(Request for Proposal) to HAL, requests 83 Tejas light
combat aircrafts
Indian Air Force has forwarded a formal request(Request For Proposal) to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited(HAL) for
additional 83 Tejas light combat aircrafts on December 20, Wednesday. It also includes 73 Mark-1A upgraded
versions and 10 trainer versions of the LCA. The response from HAL will be provided within 3 months. Two
contracts are already signed between IAF and HAL. First for acquiring 20 Initial Operational Clearance (IOC)
standard aircraft and another for 20 Final Operational Clearance (FOC) standard aircraft.

After Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 were criticized for the placement of fingerprint scanner, new leaks suggest that
in the Galaxy S9 series, the location will not be next to the camera module but rather below it. The leaked images

IAF Successfully Test Fired BrahMos from Sukhoi 30-MKI
In a first for India and the world, BrahMos was test fired on 22 November 2017 from IAF's Sukhoi 30-MKI. Counted
among the heaviest missiles in the world, BrahMos will be integrated on IAF's frontline fighter jet. The missile which
essentially adds to India's strike capabilities can be launched in either vertical or inclined configuration, depending
on the type of the ship. Development of higher range for the missile is also underway.

Innovative techniques to be introduced by Indian Railway to eliminate rail accidents
According to reports, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has stated that innovative techniques will be introduced to
eliminate rail accidents. These techniques include revamping the existing signalling system by use of TPWS - Train
protection and Warning System and MTRC, Mobile Train Radio Communication. Railway will be eliminating existing
5000 unmanned level crossings in a time bound manner.
According to the Minister, about 20 stations will be modernised in an expedited manner with superior infrastructure
and passenger facilities, including disabled-friendly, by December 2018. It is also proposed to increase speed of
around 700 trains with effect from November this year.

India's MOM completes three years in orbit
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) also called as Mangalyaan completes three years in space. The Mars Orbiter
Mission (MOM)spacecraft was successfully placed in the Martian orbit in its very first attempt by the ISRO. MOM

Google's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) based digital payment service Tez
launched
Google has forayed in the payment segment with the launch of Tez. Tez is an app and is available in both android
and iOS platforms. Tez uses the government's Unified Payments Interface. The app was launched by Finance
Minister Arun Jaitley.
Tez allows users to do financial transactions like sending money, receiving payments directly into their bank
accounts and paying bills. The users can link the app to their bank accounts as the platform is built on the
government's Unified Payment Interface.
Google Tez supports several local languages including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and
Telugu.

India successfully test-fires short-range surface-to-air missile
According to reports, India has successfully test-fired Surface-to-Air Missile from Test Range at Chandipur in
Odisha. This is the second developmental trial of the missile just within three months from the same test range.
Reports suggest that the missile is jointly developed DRDO and Bharat Electronics Ltd. The QR-SAM system can
also engage multiple targets within a range of around 30 km with two vehicle configuration for area air defence.

According to reports, ISRO has successfully launched PSLV C-38 from Sriharikotta. It has placed Cartosat-2 Series

According to reports, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched its heaviest ever rocket GSLV
Mark III D1 from Sriharikota. This is the first developmental flight of the heavy-lift launch vehicle GSLV Mark-III D1
that can carry 4-ton class satellites into the 36000 kilometer geostationary orbits.
As per reports, the mission's success will enable India to launch four-tonne satellites on its own rocket instead of

President Congratulates DRDO For Successful MRSAM Missile Launch
President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation
(DRDO) for successfully test-firing a medium-range ballistic missile, developed jointly with Israel. On Thursday,
India test-fired twice a medium-range surface-to-air ballistic missile, off the coast of Odisha. Mukherjee also
conveyed his greetings to the members of the team of scientists, engineers, and all others involved in the mission.
As per reports, the first missile to be developed by DRDO under India's Integrated Guided Missile Development
Program, Prithvi-II was inducted into India's armed forces in 2003. The Prithvi-II missile is capable of carrying 500

BharatNet phase 2 launched
Governmnet of India has launched BharatNet Phase 2 to provide high-speed broadband service in all Gram
Panchayats by March 2019. It is expected to cost around 34 thousand crore rupees.
Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has signed MoUs with states for the implementation of the second phase
of BharatNet. Under this phase, broadband connectivity will be provided in remaining 1.5 lakh Gram Panchayats
in the country. Broadband infrastructure on Optical Fibre network has been made available in more than one lakh
Gram Panchayats as part of BharatNet Phase-1 and by December this year, all these Panchayats will be
operational on the BharatNet infrastructure.
Almost 90 thousand installations have been completed and broadband services are expected to commence in 80
thousand Gram Panchayats soon.

GST rate on mass consumption items reduced
According to reports, GST Council has decided to reduce the tax rate of mass use items from 28 to 18 percent. The
Goods and Services Tax (GST), implemented "from July 1, has five tax slabs of 0 per cent, 5 per cent, 12 per cent,
18 per cent and 28 per cent.
This is being announced at the full GST council meeting headed by Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley, is
deliberating on to review the impact of the new tax regime.This decision will reduce rate of 177 goods from 28 to
18 percent.

India Post and Payment Bank to become operational by April 2018
The government stated that India Post Payments Bank will become operational in all 650 districts of the country by
April next year.
They will facilitate financial inclusion. Minister of Communications Manoj Sinha said in New Delhi that these banks

India levies anti-dumping duty on steel from EU, China, Korea
According to a notification issued by the Department of Revenue, India has slapped anti-dumping duty on certain
stainless steel products from the European Union and several other nations, including China and Korea, to protect
the domestic industry from cheap imports. The duty has been imposed by the Revenue department following a
recommendation by the Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD).
In a notification, the Revenue department states that the levy ranges between 4.58 percent and 57.39 percent of
the landed value of cold-rolled flat products of stainless steel. The duty will be in effect until December 10, 2020,
while certain grades of stainless steel have been exempted from the levy. The anti-dumping duty will be imposed
on the imports of stainless steel products from China, Taiwan, South Korea, South Africa, Thailand, the United
States and the European Union.

IIP rises to 9-month high of 4.3% in August 2017


The data released by Central Statistical Organization shows that India's Industrial production is showing a nine-
month high of four point three percent in August 2017. This has been due to robust performance of the mining and
power sectors. Factory output had grown 4 percent in August 2016.
During August 2017, Manufacturing sector output grew 3.1 percent, mining sector output surged 9.4 percent, and
electricity generation increased 8.3 percent.
Production of capital good rose 5.4 per cent in August. Consumer durables output increased 1.6 percent, and
consumer non-durables output rose 6.9 percent during the month.

India to send 3 lakh youth to Japan for on-job training
According to reports, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has stated that India will send three lakh youth to Japan
for on-job training for 3-5 years as part of the government's skill development programme.
Japan will bear the financial cost of the skill training of Indian technical interns. This is as per the Memorandum of
Cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan on the 'Technical Intern Training Program (TITP)'.

Anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of steel wire rods from China
The Centre has imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of certain steel wire rods from China for five years. This has
been done to safeguard the interest of domestic players from cheap in-bound shipments.The duty was imposed
after the Commerce Ministry's Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) recommended duty
on such imports. Earlier the DGAD had concluded that wire rod of alloy or non-alloy steel has been exported to
India at below the normal value due to which domestic industry has suffered material injury.
In a notification, Department of Revenue said that the anti-dumping duty imposed shall be effective for a period of
five years from the date of its imposition and shall be payable in Indian currency. These steel products are used in
many sectors such as automotive components, railway, engineering and construction.
India has already slapped anti-dumping duty on certain cold-rolled flat steel products from four nations, including
China and South Korea. Anti-dumping measures are taken to ensure fair trade and provide a level-playing field to
the domestic industry.

India's coffee output pegged at record 3.5 lakh tons in 2017-18
According to crop forcast released by Coffee Board, Coffee output in India, is pegged to be a record 3.50 lakh
tonnes in the 2017-18 marketing year started this month on higher acreage. The Coffee Board said the crop's
forecast for 2017-18 is placed at 3.50 lakh tonnes, comprising 1.03 lakh tonnes of Arabica and 2.47 lakh tonnes of
Robusta varieties. Higher output is mainly attributed to the additional bearing area of about 13,500 hectare in

RBI issues bright yellow rupees 200 note
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it would issue Rs 200 notes on Friday. This new Rs. 200 note is
the second new denomination to be issued since the demonitisation exercise. The base color of the Rs. 200 note
will be bright yellow. It will bear the signature of Urijit Patel, the RBI governor on the front. The note will have the
'Swachh Bharat' logo with slogan along with a motif of Sanchi Stupa on the reverse side. The new note is smaller
than the existing 100 note with dimensions of 66mmx146mm. As per the experts, the new 200 note will improve
the efficiency of the present currency system in India. In a statement, the RBI said, “There is a logical need to
introduce the missing denomination of Rs. 200, which will make the present currency system more efficient.” The
new Rs 200 notes is called the 'missing middle' by the chief economic advisor of SBI group Soumya Kanti Ghosh.

CGST won't apply on items not registered under trademark law
According to a statement from the Finance Ministry, the 5 per cent Central GST will not apply to products that are
not registered under the Trade Marks Act. It further stated that the CGST rate on supply of certain goods such as

when put up in unit container and bearing a registered brand name would attract 2.5 per cent CGST. The

None of the 6 sitting judges removed despite corruption charges against them
The 6 sitting judges have faced strict removal procedures in the past but none of them has been removed despite
serious corrution charges against them. The cases could not reach their conclusive stage as the process to remove
a judge is quite complex. He can only be removed by the order of the President. A motion is required to be passed
by both the Houses of Parliament by a majority of their members along with atleast two-third majority of their
members present and voting. Due to the procedural reasons, these cases were never settled and the removal of
these 6 judges never happened.

Trial for the Kathua gang rape and murder case begins today
Finally, the trial for justice begins in the Kathua rape and murder case after days of protests by the enraged citizens
all over the country on Monday. Eight, including a juvenile, have been accused of keeping an eight-year old girl,
Ashifa in captivity and sexually assaulting her before murdering. The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir,
Mehbooba Mufti has demanded for a special fast track court to finish the trial in 90 days. Separate charge sheets
have been filed for the seven culprits and a juvenile. While seven of the accused culprits will be tried in the sessions
court, the chief judicial magistrate of Kathua will hold the trial for the juvenile. The Supreme Court took a dig at
some lawyers of Jammu Bar Association as well as the Kathua Bar for hindering the judicial process of the case.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has appointed two Sikh public prosecutors for the trial in this delicate case
to ensure “neutrality” in view of Hindu-Muslim polarisation over the case.

Unnao rape case: UP Chief Minister Adityanath demands report of SIT by
Wednesday evening
As no proper actions were taken by the police in the rape case and the death of the victim's father in the police
custody, Adityanath gave his assurance of punishing the culprits responsible for the incidents.
After the gang-rape of a girl by BJP MLA Sengar and the custodial death of her father, several protests have been
taking place in Unnao by the Samajwadi Party workers.
The UP Chief Minister, Adityanath has directed the Uttar Pradesh Home Department to form a special investigation
team (SIT) which will investigate the case. The team formed is required to submit a report on the investigations
made by Wednesday evening.
Further, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh
government over the death of the victim's father in judicial custody in Unnao.
The Chief Minister called the incident unfortunate and declared that the top-ranking official will look into the matter.

39 Indian hostages in Iraq confirmed dead
