SAFETY PROCEDURES

All machinery is potentially hazardous.

All operating and maintenance personnel must be aware of the

potential hazards of this type of machinery

Some of the known hazards include:

 Incorrect use of the machine
 Misuse of the machine and the controls
 Staring the machine before carrying out safety checks
 Hazardous working areas moving in and around the machine
 Unauthorised personnel working and servicing the machine
 Operating the machine if faults are known.
 Poorly maintained equipment
 Incorrect or no protective clothing
 Safety signs and guards not maintained or removed.
 Equipment working at high pressures and temperatures, and air
flows.
 Unsafe working areas
 Use of hazardous materials

Please respect the following safety precautions scruptiously:

It is very important that only staffs, which have been personally trained
by a Jetpatcher Technician, are permitted to operate our specialised
road repair machines. Operators and maintenance personnel must
always comply with the safety precautions given in this manual and on
the stickers and tags attached to the machine.

These safety precautions are given for your safety. Review them
carefully before operating the machine and always before performing
maintenance or repairs.

Supervising personnel should develop additional precautions relating to

the specific work area and local safety regulations.
Do not operate the Jetpatcher unless you have been fully trained and
have read the Manual or be under the supervision of an instructor

Local requirements for safety signage must be implemented prior to

work

This is the general warning sign. It is used to alert the user

to potential hazards. All safety messages that follow this
sign shall be obeyed to avoid possible harm.
SAFETY PROCEDURES INFORMATION:

1. Operators must start in a work area without bystanders. Flying debris

can cause serious injury operators and personnel must ensure that any
persons in the vicinity of the working vehicle are aware of the operators’
intentions and are away from the hazardous area around the back of
the Unit.

2. Establish a training program for all operators to ensure safe operation.

3. The operator must be familiar with all prohibited work areas, such as
excessive slopes and dangerous terrain conditions.

4. Before using the Jetpatcher be sure that the truck driver is aware of
what you are doing. Decide on a system of a communicating code
between the driver and the operator when using the provided buzzer in
the truck cab, and activated by the machine operator.

Be sure that all traffic safety cones and road safety

precautions are in place during operation to ensure your
safety and also after you have finished doing the repair to
ensure the safety of any traffic passing over the repair.

5. Be aware of and implement the local requirements for signage

6. Be aware of any moving traffic areas within your environment

7. Wear appropriate clothing: recommended personal protection

equipment of rubber boots (steel caps are not required), disposable
overalls or trousers and a high visibility vest. However - Always wear
safety equipment such as goggles, ear protection safety shoes and any
safety clothing as required by local requirements.

8. Never wear loose clothing that can get caught up in any of the working
parts of the machine.
9. When working and maintaining the machine, keep proper footing and
balance at all times and use safe areas on the machine.

10. The Jetpatching principle involves moving aggregate with high

volume air but at very low pressures. All of the air that the machines
produce is blasted away from the operator. The only way you can ever
get a stone flying in your direction is if a car travelling in the other
direction was to flick up a loose stone. The chances of this happening
are far greater when e.g. surface dressing, therefore we do not enforce
the wearing of safety glasses while operating the machine.

11. Please double check with your safety officer or supervisor, as

they may prefer you to wear safety glasses.

12. At all times when operating the Jetpatcher observe common

sense and safety precautions.

Ensure that all the safety guards are kept in place

 Compressor Guard

Only adjust guards when the engine is turned off

The use of hearing protection e.g. ear muffs or ear plugs, is

compulsory for the operator while working the Jetpatcher
13. For extra safety, if for any reason any person has to work under
the truck, it is compulsory for the person doing this to have control of
the key of the truck and the key of the auxiliary engine.

Remove the keys of the truck and the auxiliary engine when working
under the truck

14. There may be the necessity to enter the hopper at some time and
when doing this the person entering the hopper must have control of
the key to the auxiliary engine in their possession. There is a step
ladder on the side of the hopper with anti-slip treads and there is a rail
up this ladder to be used at all times

15.

All pressure must be fully released before checking and filling the
emulsion, water and kerosene tanks.

We have four safety pressure relief systems on each machine:

 one on the emulsion tank
 one on the water tank
 one on the kerosene tank

 one on drum fill

These each include safety relief

valves which are locked to 3.5 bar
on the Tank pressure systems and
0.5 bar on the drum Fill pressure
system.
These are not to be adjusted.
The preset blow-off regulator for the entire
pressure system has a push in safety lock.
This is preset to 3 bar

16. Please refer to the example – ‘HEALTH AND SAFETY DATA

SHEET’ for safety information on handling and storing Bitumen
emulsions. Your local supplier will also supply information for their
specific product.

17. Care should be taken when filling the Jetpatcher with materials.

18. When the aggregate hopper is being filled e.g. with a loader, all
personnel must be a safe distance from the loading machine.

19. For filling the emulsion tank, the kerosene tank and the water tank
please refer to the procedure in Section 8 - MATERIALS of this manual

20. When filling the emulsion tank and the kerosene tank we
recommend the use of gloves and safety glasses for the active
personnel.

21. To avoid personal injury or equipment damage, all maintenance

and service of the machines must only be performed by authorised
workshop personnel.

22. If your unit is fitted with a Hopper Aggregate Deflector on the front
of the hopper make sure this is closed before travelling otherwise it
could flip over while in motion.
