KE36603 Power System Tutorial 4 Semester 2-2017

1. The one-line diagram of a simple three bus power system is shown in figure 1. Each
generator is represented by an emf behind the transient reactance. All impedances are
expressed in per unit on a common 100 MVA base, and resistances are neglected.
Determine the fault current, the bus voltages and the line currents during fault when a
balanced three phase fault with impedance Zf = 0.16 per unit occurs at bus 3.

2. Find the symmetrical components of unbalanced currents

Ia = 1.6|25, Ib = 1|180, Ic = 0.9|132
3. Find the unbalanced voltage of the symmetrical components set:

Va0  0.6 | 90, Va1  1 | 30, Va2  0.8 |  30

4. Consider power generator of 100 MVA. 0.707 power factor leading supplies an
unbalanced voltage having Va = 25|0 kV, Vb = 20|-150 kV, Vc = 18 |120 kV. Compute the
pu sequences of the generator impedances.

5. Consider a load power of 1|30 pu supplied by an unbalanced voltage having Va = 1|0 pu,
Vb = 0.8|-120 pu, Vc = 0.91|150 pu. Calculate the symmetrical components of voltages
and currents, and the sequences of the load impedances.

6. The one-line diagram of simple power system is shown in figures 2. The parameters are
expressed in pu and given in table 1. Determine the fault current for: a) balanced 3-phase
fault at bus 3 through a fault impedance of j0.1 pu; b) single line to ground fault at bus 3
through a fault impedance of j0.1 pu; c) line to line fault at bus 3 through a fault
impedance of j0.1 pu; d) double line to ground fault at bus 3 through a fault impedance
of j0.1 pu
