These suspension clamps are used to fix copper and steel stranded conductors on suspension strings or earth wire supports. The allowed maximum conductor outlet angle
at the clamp is 15°.
Mounting instruction:
1) The entire length of the conductor on which the clamp is to be fitted must be thoroughly steel wire brushed (see sheet B198/1 ). If the clamps have been stored for a long
period or in case of heavily oxidized clamps the conductor groove of the clamp body has to be brushed as well.
2) The suspension clamp has to be completely disassembled. After this put the clamp body on the marked position and mount the keeper. The nuts of the U-Bolts have to
be tightened alternately (crosswise) with an installation torque
of 16 Nm at thread M8,
24 Nm at thread M10
and 40 Nm at thread M12.
3) The double strap has to be connected with the string accessories by mounting the connecting bolt. The cotter pin ends have to be bent carefully into the groove of the
nut.

Threaded bolt: steel, grade 8.8 / hot dip galvanized^
Nuts: steel, grade 10 / hot dip galvanized
Application:
In normal service position (vertical suspension string) the clamp body is pivoted in the double strap and secured against lifting and lateral displacement by locking cams. At
one-sided strong tensile load (e.g. very different ice loadings or conductor breakage) the suspension string will be pulled in a sloping position which will effect the unlocking
of the clamp. The body will slip out of the trunnions of the double strap so that the conductor will slide down over the roller.
The clamps will be unlocked at a swing angle of the suspension string of approx. 45° in direction of line.
2) The clamp body is to be disassembled. After this put the clamp body on the marked position and mount the keeper. The nuts of the U-Bolts have to be tightened
alternately (crosswise) with an installation torque
of 16 Nm at thread M8,
24 Nm at thread M10
and 40 Nm at thread M12.
3) The double strap with the pre-assembled roller is to be suspended on the clamp body and to be connected to the string accessories.
Take care that the threaded bolt is firmly tightened with nut and lock nut.
The required wrapping tape is to be ordered separately.

Mounting instruction:
1) The entire length of the conductor on which the clamp is to be fitted must be thoroughly cleaned with a steel wire brush (e.g. according to sheet B198/1) to remove the
adherent contamination and the oxide layer. A subsequent greasing of the conductor is not permitted.
2) Pre-bend the conductor according the groove of the curved wedge at the marked position.
After this mount the clamp as follows:
- fit the conductor into the curved wedge,
- put on the straight wedge
- tighten the screws alternately with an installation torque of 80 Nm,
- put the keeper on the curved wedge and tighten the screws alternately with an installation torque of 80 Nm.
3) The slideways of the clamp body and of the wedges as well are factory-coated with a special PTFE-based lubricant. This black-looking coating shall not be removed.
An additional greasing of the slideways is not required.
4) The clamp body is to be led over the conductor and to be pushed tightly on the mounted wedge assembly.
5) The straps are to be suspended over the trunnions of the clamp body.
6) If installing on bundled conductors, take care that the cotter pins are located inside the bundle.
7) The clamp is to be connected with the tension string accessories by mounting the connecting bolt. The cotter pin ends have to be bent carefully into the groove of the
nut.
Dismantling:
The wedge assembly can be removed from the clamp body by knocking with an aluminium bolt against the nose of the curved wedge.
If re-using a dismantled clamp the threads of the screws and the slideways of the wedges have to be greased with anticorrosive grease (type "Shell").

In order to generate the holding force in the direction of the conductor, compression-type tension clamps use the lateral deformation
(circumference compression) of ferrules created by mechanical and hydraulic assembly tools with special compression inserts (fig. 1). In
order to deform the ferrules, RIBE uses hexagonal pressing according to fig. 2.
This catalog chapter only comprises compression-type tension clamps for overhead lines. For compression-type tension clamps for larger
conductor cross sections and the minor tensile stress in switch gears see catalog section B766.
Cross section A – A aluminium bushing are pressed onto the reinforced conductor
Cross section B – B steel bushing are pressed onto the steel core
Fig. 2: Application of the hexagonal pressing according to DIN 48 083, part 4 as for reinforced conductors: the edges of the hexagon are rounded off after pressing.
For the construction of the compression-type tension clamps, the conductor has to be cut at the wiring spot and the steel core of reinforced
conductors has to be exposed carefully as it is wired seperated from the conductor as a whole. As a result the highest holding forces of
different types can be achieved and also reinforced conductors with a high percentage of steel can be wired safely.
The conductor connection for the jumper is implemented by means of a branch ferrule which is connected with the flat blade connection of
the compression-type tension clamp by 2 or 4 hexagon bolts. As for dead-end tension joints this flat blade connection is missing.
While the steel bushings are continuously pressed the pressings on the aluminium bushing have to be put on in the marked distances. In
connection with the adhesive lubricant the inner walls of the aluminium bushings are covered with, the axial wiring between the conductor
sections, that develop due to the single pressings, ensure the safe transmission of the tensile force of the conductor in the compression-type
tension clamp.
The compression-type tension clamps have to fulfill the mechanical and electrical tasks according to sheet B110/01.
Please note that the subsequent compression of the steel sleeve must be carried out continuously overlapping acc. to fig. 2. When using compression dies with a minimum
width of 20 mm and carrying out crimps overlapping by approx. 5 mm you will need 4 or 5 compressions dependent on the length of the sleeve.
After having finished the steel compression the aluminium tension sleeve is to be pushed back, so far that a clearance of 2 to 3 mm is remaining between the end of the
sleeve and the stop collar A (fig. 3).
The aluminium sleeve must be compressed in the sequence as indicated regarding the lengthening of the sleeve. For compressing the steel
sleeve with the aluminium sleeve (crimp 1 and 2) take care that the clevis and the jumper flag are in the right position to each other (fig.3).
Pay attention to the existing compression marks on the aluminium sleeve. For reasons of efficiency only large compression dies should be
used.
The compression of the jumper terminal must be carried out in the indicated sequence as well (fig.4).
After having finished the compressions the jumper terminal is to be bolted to the flag. First of all the contact faces have to be thoroughly steel wire brushed to remove
contamination and oxide. After this the bolts (thread M12) have to be tightened alternately with an installation torque of 80 Nm.

Connecting bolt: type S, DIN 48 073, steel grade 8.8/ hot dip galvanized, cotter pin A2
Application:
These compression dead-end clamps are used for dead-ending of ACSR.
1. The conductor ends are to be cut carefully and right angled to the axis of the conductor. To avoid opening of the strands the conductor ends have to be secured
by wrapping with a PVC-tape. This has also to be done with the steel core after having removed the aluminium strands.
The conductor ends have to be cleaned thoroughly to remove contamination, grease and oxide. For doing this a steel wire brush is recommended (e.g. acc. to
sheet B198/1).
2. At the conductor end the aluminium strands are to be removed until the steel core is exposed. The length of the exposed steel strands must correspond to the
length of the steel tension sleeve plus approx. 12 mm.
Before compressing the steel tension sleeve the aluminium tension sleeve is to be pushed over the conductor end. After this the exposed end of the steel core is
to be inserted in the steel tension sleeve. If the preparations have been carried out correctly there must be a clearance of 11 to 13 mm between steel tension
sleeve and aluminium layers (fig.1).
fig. 1
3. Please note that the subsequent compression of the steel sleeve must be carried out continuously overlapping acc. to fig. 2. When using compression dies with a
minimum width of 20 mm and carrying out crimps overlapping by approx. 5 mm you will need 4 or 5 compressions dependent on the length of the sleeve.

Application:
These notch type connectors are used to establish inseparable, full tension, current carrying connections of AAC having equal cross sections. In addition, they can be used
for full tension dead-end loops in low and medium voltage overhead lines. If using the connector with the no. 3112262 as dead-end loop, take care that
the conductor tensile stress is not exceeding 40 N/mm 2. In case of higher conductor tensile stresses two notch type connectors are necessary.
Mounting instruction:
The connectors are to be installed by ‿U‿ notching with notching pliers, equipped with the according dies.
1. General preparations:
1.1 The conductor ends have to be tied up by means of a tape or lashing wire before and behind the intended cutting position. After this the conductors are to be sawn off
properly, to be straightened and to be deburred at the edges. Other cutting methods are permitted if the insertion into the tube is not impaired.
1.2 Prior to installation of the connectors, the intended connecting sections of the conductors have to be steel wire brushed (e.g.acc. to sheet B198/1) at a length of 1,5
times the connector length to remove the adherent contamination and the oxide layer.
1.3 Crimping of the ‿U‿ notches has to be carried out by using compression dies, having the same marks as the connector. The measure t (see fig. 1 and 2 and table 1) is
to be adjusted by means of the set screw on the pliers.

Material/ finish:
Application:
These compression joints are used to establish inseparable, full tension, current carrying connections of ACSR having equal cross sections.
1. The conductor ends are to be cut carefully and right angled to the axis of the conductor. To avoid opening of the strands the conductor ends have to be secured by
wrapping with a PVC-tape. This has also to be done with the steel core after having removed the aluminium strands.
The conductor ends have to be cleaned thoroughly to remove contamination, grease and oxide. For doing this, a steel wire brush is recommended (e.g. acc. to sheet
B198/1).
2. At the conductor end the aluminium strands are to be removed until the steel core is exposed. The length L of the exposed steel strands has to correspond to half the
length of the steel sleeve plus approx. 10% of the overall length of the steel sleeve (see fig. 3).
fig. 3
3. Before compressing the steel sleeve, the aluminium sleeve is to be pushed over one of the conductor ends. After this, the exposed ends of the steel core have to be
inserted into the steel sleeve until the centre stop is reached.
It has to be checked that the clearance ‿a‿ is approx. 10% of the overall length of the steel sleeve.
fig. 4
- if using hydraulic tools ( for conductor diameters > 15 mm) overlapped with approx. 5 mm overlapping (throughout overlapped compression acc. to fig .5) The
compression begins at the centre of the sleeve.
fig. 5
5. After having finished the steel compression, the aluminium sleeve is to be pushed back and adjusted so that the
compressed steel sleeve is located exactly in the centre of the aluminium sleeve.
For doing this, it is recommended to mark the outer layer of the aluminium strands at one side before.
6. Regarding the lengthening of the aluminium sleeve during the compression, it has to begin at the centre and to proceed to the ends (fig.6).
fig.6
It is recommended to compress one half of the sleeve first and then the other. Pay attention to the existing compression marks. For reasons of efficiency only large
compression dies should be used.
7. If using ACSR with a high steel ratio (acc. to fig. 2), please note that the supplied compensating sleeves have to be pushed over both conductor ends before compressing
the steel sleeve. Prior to the compression of the aluminium sleeve the compensating sleeves are to be pushed entirely into the aluminium sleeve.

Under certain marginal conditions, conductors get vortex-excited by wind which results in short-wave vibrations (see sheet B10/5). Especially
at the intermediate support and the tension support, these vibrations cause alternating bending stress that overlaps the static tensile stress
and bending stress in the conductor.
Under continuous stress, this may cause damage of the conductor in the form of broken single wires or even broken conductors.
Effective protection against vortex-excited vibrations of the conductor can be vibration dampers (provided proper dimensioning and point of
installation).
RIBE vibration dampers function according to the Stockbridge damper principle. They are combined frictional and resonance dampers that
drain a part of the fed-in wind energy from the conductor. Furthermore, the function of these dampers is to obstruct vortex-excited vibrations
in the dangerous area.
They consist of a damper cable. At the ends of this damper cable damping masses have been installed symmetrically or asymmetrically. A
rope clamp that lies between the damping masses transmits the vibrations from the conductor to the damper cable.
The requirements and testings for vibration dampers type Stockbridge are stated in DIN EN 61 897 (VDE 0212 part 3).
In practical experience it has to be reckoned with a broad range of the conductor resonance frequencies of between 5 and 100 Hz. That is
why a vibration damper has to be equally effective in this frequency band. By means of the corresponding formation of the damping masses
and length of the damper cables, 2 to 4 resonance frequencies can form at the damper whereas the damper efficiency between the
resonance frequencies does not decline to severely.
The design of RIBE vibration dampers ensures that they boast almost constant damping in a broad frequency band. Here, in general, the
frequency range of the conductor vibrations where the dangerous stress occurs is overlapped.
As for its properties, the vibration damper has to match the conductor. If that is not the case, damage may occur on the conductor, directly at
the point of mounting of the vibration damper, or the vibration damper itself could be destroyed.
Therefore, RIBE vibration dampers should not be installed until a RIBE vibration study is present. Things that are determined in this study
are:
- nominal voltage
- number of systems and earth wires
- pole list with indication of the span lengths
number of weight

Application/mounting information:
Vibration dampers are used for installation at AAC, AAAC, ACSR and AACSR conductors near insulator strings resp. earthwire suspensions/tensions. Dampers are
combined friction-resonance-types, preventing dangerous stresses at conductors by consuming energy induced to conductor by wind. Damper must be adapted to the
conductor. If not, damper can cause destruction to the conductor or be destroyed itself. For optimal effectiveness of damper it is necessary to
Based on a special computer program RIBE will work out a damping study for the best damping system. This study will tell the right type of damper (identification no.).
Mounting instruction:
1. Installation locations:
The locations where the vibration dampers have to be installed are given by RIBE.
2. Before installing remove dirt and oxide from conductor surface at the contact places near the clamp body (not necessary over the entire length of armour rods)
with a steel brush (e.g. acc. to sheet B198/1).
3. The rods for helical fixing are led through the clamp body of the damper up to the center marking of the rods. Place the clamp body on the installation place onto
the conductor. Then the rods are wound on the left and on the right side of the clamp body on the conductors.
In the case of galopping (see sheet B10/5) the movements of the conductor cables (conductors and earth wires) can cause the cables to
smash.
This leads to interruptions of the engery supply. At the points of contact it can also lead to severe damage of the conductor cables.
The interphase spacers listed in B170 cannot obstruct galopping. However, in the case of galopping, they can obstruct the conductor cables
smashing if their assembly in the span has been implemented correctly.
The interphase spacers comprise a centerpiece that, depending on the distance between the conductor cables to be separated, either
consists of one or several plastic insulators (compound insulators) in combination with aluminum rods.
These centerpieces and the conductor cables are connected by clamp structures that have been adapted specifically. From the nominal
voltage of 220 kV on, only modified spiral suspension clamps are used for the connection between conductor cable and clamp structure of
the interphase spacer.
For field control in the section between AUFPRESSKAPPE and the cap of the plastic insulator, and in order to homogenize the electric field
along the interphase spacer, FELDSTEUERRINGE according to sheet B363/3 are mounted to the ends of the plastic insulators on the side of
the conductor cables (from 220 kV on).
The use of plastic insulators for interphase spacers has the following advantages compared to conventional insulators made of ceramics:
- minor weight
- high flexibility (insensitive to bending stress),
- insensitivity to impulsive mechanical stress,
- can be manufactured in big lengths as single insulators,
- widely insensitive to high-performance electric arcs,
- water-repellent properties of the silicone rubber (hydrophobic surface) and therefore excellent insulating properties.
The interphase spacers included in catalogue part B170 are samples. As for galopping we support you with suggestions in order to find a
solution to your specific problems. We provide you with adapted constructions of interphase spacers and their adapted positioning in the
span.

- Vogelschutzschienen,
- Vogelschutzspiralen und
- Vogelschutzfahnen.
