Low frequency noise emissions (< 9kHz)

¾ Voltage distortions

¾ Voltage dips (voltage fluctuations)

¾ Small line impedance of the incoming feeder (Sinv. / SK.line < 0.01)

¾ Line reactor

High frequency noise emissions (> 9kHz)

interference source

noise current IS due to charging effects of the parasitic capacity CP ; causes noise voltage on ZE and ZN

backflow of the noise current IS via shielded motor cable; impedance is reduced by EMC-filter

Earth connection of conductive enclosures

PLC converter motor

- in long earth connections of small

noise cross section the noise current
noise voltage generates high noise voltages
voltage

PLC converter motor

+ star shaped short connections of

large cross section considerably
reduce inevitable noise voltages

Earth connection of conductive enclosures

Solid bus bar of large cross section for
common earth connections

Earth connection of metallic sub-

assemblies preferably by flexible lead

Use multi strand cable of large cross

section to substitute for flexible lead

Earth connection of movable doors by

short flexible lead

Solid bus bar of large cross section

continued through several cabinets for
common earth connections

Capacitive coupling

interference
source

the potential difference between insulated wires causes a noise current IS ; consequently generating noise voltage on Z

using shielded signal cables the noise current IS leaks off via the housing

Converters within a cabinet

+ screened line- and motor cables

+ large, conductive base mounting plate

+ screened PROFUBUS cable crossing the

power cable at an angle of 90 degrees

+ line filter mounted on the large

conductive base mounting plate providing
effective earth connection

- mixed wiring of power- and control cables

Cables / installation of cables

¾ Shielded motor cables, as short as possible, of small capacitance per unit length

¾ Install motor cables and the group of temperature sensor-, signal- and data-cables separately
(Æ not in parallel to the motor cable / with grounded metal sheets / close to the grounded conduct)

¾ Ground the shield of temperature sensor-, signal- and data-cables on both ends

¾ Ground analog signal cables on one end via capacitor (0.1μF)

¾ Install signal cables “in one piece” (Æ uninterrupted shield)

¾ Ground spare wires on both ends

¾ Twist unshielded wires of the same current circuit with each other

Shielding and potential compensation

¾ Ground shields on both ends on a large area (not by separate wire)

¾ Ground the shield directly after entry to the cubicle; continue shielded from here on

¾ Use conductive connector housings to connect shielded cables with each other

¾ Use cables of sufficient cross section (> 10mm2) for the potential compensation between associating
parts of the drive assembly

¾ Connect potential compensation cables to one common ground
