qin feng ling • wang yehan • ma tse lin

In this inspiring show, Chinese artists Wang Yehan, Qin Feng Ling and Ma Tse Lin
converge at the Opera Gallery. While the artists’ works reveal layers of texture, they
each maintain their own individual style. Structures on canvas vary from the abstract
to the organized, with palettes of colors and forms, offering different messages or
perspectives to the viewer. These messages include themes that are spiritual and
political in nature which step outside the comfort zone into a marriage of past and
present. With contents that stand out on the canvas, they explore the imaginative world
of colors and delve into different ideas as they offer a philosophical interpretation.

Exhibiting a fanciful, playful expression with child-like forms, Qin Feng Ling merges painting
and sculpture together in the study of Chinese contemporary art. She frequently
assembles together, in an organized manner, miniature figures that include children, soccer
players and Chinese military men. All of these figures are brought together to consider a
bygone era mixed with what she sees as the here and now of Chinese culture presented
as an evolutionary path.

In a process that conceptualizes and examines as he paints on canvas, Wang Yehan

meshes a plethora of colors to please the eyes. As shown in his paintings, he reveals
his expression of beauty that has evolved from his exposure to other artists, the
likes of Paul Klee and Kandinsky, who have influenced his own energy to create.

Ma Tse Lin makes a statement of looking forward into a new world, going past the restraints
of his culture, with his well-known Buddha paintings. While he is expressing his idea of a
new world, he still maintains a connection with his traditions.

The commonality of these artists is that their works convey a modern approach that is
evolving past the traditional boundaries, which, until more recently, have defined Chinese
art. Opera Gallery is pleased to welcome this assortment of talented contemporary artists
who represent some of China’s rising stars.
