Dryopteridaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Gentianaceae, Labiatae, Moraceae, Papilionaceae, Poaceae,

Polygonaceae,

Primulaceae, Pteridaceae, Ranunculaceae, Rosaceae, Scrophulariaceae and Umbelliferea. This research

study was

aimed to provide a detailed account for Botanical inventory of study area which will help Taxonomists
and Park

management to better manage Plant resources of the National Park such as medicinal plants, Timber
wood species,

Fuel wood and fodder plants. Grazing and illegal extraction of plant resources within study area is
common practice,

which leads to the destruction of floral wealth of this area, which is part of Himalayan Biodiversity
hotspot.

Machiara National Pak is located in the Neelum Valley, Azad Kashmir. It is one of the few sites in which a
breeding population of the western tragopan pheasant, Tragopan melanocephalus, exists. Western
Tragopan, with its brilliant red neck and black and white speckled plumage, is one of the most
magnificent pheasants in the world. But the pheasants are more than just beautiful birds, for they also
have scientific value for environmentalists and ecologists. Western tragopan pheasants are also found in
most northerly mountains of Pakistan and are on the verge of extinction. World Pheasant Association
(WPA) is doing its utmost to save these beautiful pheasants from extinction

Machiara National Park consists of montane mixed broadleaf-coniferous forest and contains a significant
number of bird species. Machiara National Park is one of three globally significant national parks
selected for a Global Environment Facility sponsored project. The overall goal is to set-up management
models demonstrating effective natural resource conservation and make a significant contribution to
the development of Pakistan's capacity.

Machiara National Park is one of the three significant national parks in the world chosen for Global
Environmental Facility sponsored project. It is situated in The Neelum Valley of Azad
Kashmir in Pakistan. It covers an area of 13593 hectares. The region was declared a National Park in
1996 to save the vegetation (the mixed broad leaf coniferous forest) and wildlife of the area.

The most endangered specie of the area is the Western Tragopan Pheasant. The park provides a
breeding ground to the birds whose number was fast dwindling in the past. The Himalayan griffon
vulture and lammergeyer (large vulture) are also found here. The park also provides sanctuary to
the Himalayan Brown Bear, Ibex and Snow Leopard.

The local community is very protective towards the past and is trying its utmost to save the threatened
animals as well as their natural habitat. Machiara National Park is ideally located in one of the most
