Huasco is a port city and Chilean commune, located west of
the province, valley and river of the same name.
The commune of Huasco is made up of eighteen localities
including Huasco, Huasco Bajo, Canto de Agua and Carrizal Bajo. It is administered by the Illustrious Municipality of Huasco and it limits to the north with the commune of Copiapó, to the south with the commune of Freirina, to the east with the communes of Freirina and Vallenar; and to the west with the Chilean Sea.2
The city of Huasco, communal capital, is a spa near the
mouth of the Huasco River, which stands out for its beautiful postcards and still preserves its quiet life. It has a port infrastructure considered the most important in the Atacama Region3 and 46 km from Vallenar, the provincial capital; and 191 km from Copiapó, regional capital.
