BMW Assist transforms your car into the perfect
tour manager, notifying the driver of up-to-date
traffic conditions on his route.
A simple touch of a button connects you with
helpful, professional staff at the telephone
information service.They will provide you with
the information you require in connection with
your current location or destination, for example
recommended hotels and restaurants, as well
as directory, address and telephone information.
All the requested data can be transferred directly
to the navigation system and the phone.
BMW Assist also provides support in the event
of an emergency or a breakdown. An automatic
emergency call relaying your current position
to the call centre and communication of vehicle
data to BMW Service in the event of a breakdown
ensure swift and accurate on-the-scene assistance.

Is there a traffic jam ahead?
BMW Assist provides you with information on the
up-to-date traffic situation faster than traffic news
on the radio. Over 4,000 sensors sited along all
German motorways deliver their measurement
results in order to portray the traffic conditions in
real time. In the event of a traffic jam warning, your
car’s navigation system will automatically suggest
an alternative route.
How could help arrive so quickly?
BMW Assist ensures rapid assistance in case of an
accident. As soon as your airbags are deployed,
BMW Assist automatically establishes a telephone
connection to the BMW Call Centre. The nearest
rescue centre is then notified straight away. The
crucial factor here is that BMW Assist also transmits
your car’s present location, saving valuable minutes
in an emergency. Even if you are present at the
scene of an accident without actually being involved,
you can make contact with the Service Centre
manually. In this case, too, BMW Assist will provide
rapid assistance.
Where’s the next hotel?
Restaurants, hotels or cultural events – the expert
staff at the telephone information service will
always be able to make a tailor-made suggestion
for your current location or your destination. If you
wish, the addresses and phone numbers you
require will be sent to your car. The destination
can be transferred to the navigation system at the
touch of a button. Transmitted telephone numbers
can be stored just as easily in the phone.
How does the Breakdown Service
know where to find me?
Should you require on-the-scene assistance from
a mobile BMW Service Technician, you will find
the entry “Breakdown Service” in BMW Assist.
When you activate this menu item, your current
position together with important vehicle data are
transmitted to the BMW Service partner. They will
provide you with the quickest possible on-the-
scene assistance so that you can continue your
journey with minimum delay.

phone numbers and company addresses all over Germany are also
available. The data is transferred directly to the navigation system or
car phone at the touch of a button. You are then swiftly directed to
BMW Online.

Where can I find the nearest restaurant?
BMW Online decisively shortens your search. The selected destination
is then simply sent to the navigation system at the touch of a button.
A direct telephone connection can also be established at once. The
recommendations are based on the Michelin Guide, among other
sources.

What attractions are there at my destination?

Leisure time is the best time. And thanks to BMW Online you now
have even more of it. Sights, tourist attractions and museums near to
your car’s current location or any other destination are no mystery to
BMW Online. The Green Guide from ViaMichelin ensures that the
information provided is up to date and of the highest possible quality.

How can I transmit addresses from

my PC to my car?
Your car and your PC are now closely inter-
connected. Using the “My Info” service, it is
child’s play to send address data directly to your
BMW as navigation destinations or phone
numbers. Family members or employees can
also be authorised as second users so that they
can send information directly to your car.
Use the possibilities of networking your car with
BMW Online and your PC. From accessing all
BMW Online services and the various persona-
lised services right through to transmitting your
personal digital addresses with your BMW Online
address book – you don’t have to miss out on
anything while you’re on the road.

Can I use BMW ConnectedDrive

services from my mobile phone
as well?
Independently of your car and PC, you can
access a selection of BMW Online services from
your mobile phone. Traffic information, CityGuide,
3D weather and travel planner turn your mobile
phone into a tour manager, giving you even
more independence.

Where did I park my car?

Your car’s current position can be sent as an
address by text message to any mobile phone.
In addition, a section of a road map can be trans-
mitted directly from the car to help you find your
bearings. The current position of your car and
your destination are marked on the map so that
you can walk straight from where you park to your

How does the Tracking module work?

The so-called tracking module is installed in a concealed location
in the car. If the car is stolen and the alarm system is set off, the
tracking module transmits an intermittent signal which identifies
the car’s coordinates. It is possible on the basis of this signal to
identify the current position of the car, thereby making it easier to
find.

The BMW therefore identifies itself as stolen – whenever its own

alarm system is set off. Alternatively, the appropriate alarm can be
triggered by the owner. The overriding principle is that the car’s
position can only be identified if the owner gives his consent.

Currently only available in Italy and the USA (as BMW Assist with tracking function). Introduction in other
countries is planned.

A service appointment is soon overlooked. Now
your BMW reminds you. But that’s not all: your car
sends all the main data to the service workshop in
advance. The information transmitted provides the
ideal basis for preparing the time your vehicle
spends at the service partner.

How does my dealer know when my car

needs servicing?
When your car is in need of a service, the vehicle
makes an automatic service call and sends all
the relevant data to the BMW service partner
automatically. You are then contacted by phone to
agree an appointment and the scope of servicing.
This way, wear components in need of replace-
ment can be identified before the service appoint-
ment, allowing the garage to order any spare parts
in plenty of time. The extent of work can be
planned in advance, minimising the time your car
needs to spend at the dealer.

How do I contact my service partner?

You can also get in touch with your BMW service
partner by making a manual BMW Teleservice
call*. On selecting the “Transmit service data”
option from the menu, the service data relating to

Which mountain route has the most
bends?
Simply plan the most scenic routes from home
and then drive along them in the comfort of your
car? Or download a BMW recommended route
from the driver’s seat? With BMW Online, all this
will soon be possible. In future, you will be able
to compile a personal itinerary just as you like and
include additional destinations. While doing so,
you will also include the weather report and road
news. Then download the route from the computer
to your car. Useful or interesting information on
route highlights will be provided in picture and
sound.
Can I compile my own radio
programme?
The classic car radio has long since reached its
limits. Digital technology now makes it possible
to use information and entertainment content in
the car independently of time and location.
With a personally tailored information programme
put together from newspaper reports, a missed
documentary from the evening before or the latest
“CNN News”, you are in charge of content and
schedule in just the same way as a programme
director: individually tailored, all the time and every-
where. The car intelligently links a broad range of
contents to create a programme. Individual pieces
can be paused, skipped or repeated whenever
you choose. You listen to a news report when
you want to. With personal radio, ready-made
programmes are a thing of the past.
How can my BMW communicate with
other vehicles?
In future, BMW vehicles will even be able to communicate with
each other. Data from the vehicle provides the basis for this
technology. This data includes information collected, for example,
by the rain sensor, air-conditioning system, ABS and outside
thermometer, and gives an indication of road surface conditions or
the current weather situation. All of the details are relayed directly
to the nearest vehicle and the driver can react accordingly. An
example: a sensor registers increased windscreen wiper activity
and reduced speed. From this information it is possible to deduce
an increased danger of slippery roads in that specific area. This
“slippery road warning” can, in turn, be made available to other
vehicles which can then adapt their speed accordingly.
The ability to give answers is closely linked with
the ability to ask questions. As an interconnected
system, BMW ConnectedDrive has precisely this
ability. All made possible by intelligent question/
answer interaction between vehicle electronics,
mechanical systems, the garage workshop, your
own home or other vehicles. This is where the key
objective of BMW ConnectedDrive – networking
the driver, car and environment – couldn’t be
reflected more clearly. A wealth of driver-relevant
data is collected, communicated and, after
evaluation, fed back to the vehicle.

How does my BMW communicate
Research and development.

As BMW TeleServices develop in future, diagnosing your
vehicle before a scheduled service visit will be even easier.
BMW Telediagnostics will provide the BMW service adviser
with an “electronic sensor X-ray image over the air”, permitting
optimum preparation for a service appointment. Even in the
event of an unforeseen service requirement, BMW Telediagnostics
will make it possible to diagnose and, in some cases, even rectify
a fault on the spot. If you are unable to continue your journey, you
will receive rapid on-the-scene assistance from a mobile BMW
Service Technician.

Can my BMW get in contact with home?

Driving home in the evening after work is a familiar situation. But
being able to turn the light on at home directly from you car is new.
In the House of the Present in Munich’s Riem district, the future is
already part of today.
