REPORT ON INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO SIEMENS TRANSFORMER MANUFACTURIN


UNIT, KALWA
Electrical Engineering Department organized an Industrial Visit to Siemens Transformer Manufacturing U
Kalwa on 20th April 2017, Thursday for the students of B. Tech (Electrical Engineering – Semester IV).
Following faculty Members accompanied the students.

4. Prof. Archana Lakhe.

The visit started at 12:00 noon from the campus. On reaching the atomic power station at 2:30 pm, t
students and the faculty members had to go through a security process at the manufacturing unit. Permiss
was granted for visit the complete transformer manufacturing unit.
The students and faculty members were welcomed by Mr. Saurabh Sharma, Executive, Sales, Siemens Ltd. a
Mr. Sachin Rajput, Executive, Sales, Siemens Ltd. Introductory session was arranged through power po
presentation to describe the complete product range of transformers and shunt reactors manufactured
Siemens. The complete range of products were shown for various ratings related to customers dema
Queries raised by students and faculty members were discussed in the presentation session. Various saf
factors related to manufacturing unit were discussed.
The visit started with various sections of transformer manufacturing such as winding, core, coil and co
assembly, ovening, tanking, testing and dispatch. Various winding assemblies such as horizontal and vert
were shown and discussed. Ongoing winding development process was shown for a 350 MVar transform
Core assembly for a 350 MVAr transformer was shown. The signi cance of ovening was discussed so as
remove the complete moisture content in the transformer. The tanking section contained transformer tanks
place the entire core coil assembly of the transformer after ovening.
Once the transformer is manufactured, the entire transformer is taken for testing. The testing includes rout
tests such as voltage, power and current rating of the transformer. Specialized tests based on customer nee
such as high voltage impulse test, oil diagnostics test etc, are performed. A 800 kV impulse test generato
installed in the factory. Importance of cooling arrangements were emphasized. Ventilating ducts and exha
fans are provided based on customers demand and environmental needs.
The technology used in testing for acquiring parameters is SCADA system. CCTVs are installed at vario
locations which is monitored from the control room itself.
The visit ended with a vote of thanks from faculty members and students to transformer manufacturing u
personnel’s for granting permission for the visit.
