CASE STUDY QUESTIONS

1. What factors should companies take into consideration when making the decision
between developing their own applications, purchasing them from a vendor, or taking
the SaaS route, as discussed here? Make a list of factors and discuss their importance
to this decision.
 Effect of the develop solution – the company must analyze the effect of the
develop systems or application on their company whether it is effective or not.
 Cost – the company must consider the cost or the expenses in dealing with
developing or purchasing from vendor. Company must know if the total
expenses have big impact to the company, so that expenses or cost is not
wasted.
2. What risks did GE take when they contracted with a small and less experienced
vendor? What contingencies could have been put in a place to prevent any problems
from arising? Provide several examples.
- The product must have a high demand to the market even though there is a small
and less experienced vendor.
- There must be at least one skilled vendor so that the small and less experienced
vendor can guide the small and less experienced one’s.
3. What should companies do if none of the “configuration options” perfectly fits with
their needs.
- Company must find other software or alternatives which fits their needs.

4. Should companies attempt to customize, or select the least-worst alternative? Would they
do each?

- Customize, they must customize because it depends on what they want and because of
that strategy and they can also find the exact need and solution for they company problems.
