There Has To Be More:
These people were walking around, living lives of
quiet desperation. They felt defeated in their spiritu­
al lives, their family lives and their work lives.  The
Christians of Ephesus went through their lives won­
dering and believing that there must be more. They
were looking for the secret to a victorious, spirit
filled life in Christ. Without realizing it, they were
looking for their relationship with God the Father

Letter to the Ephesians :
Written by the apostle Paul around 62 AD, the letter to
the Ephesians was focused on helping the Ephesians
Christians and those in the surrounding areas live their
daily lives based on what God the Father, through Je­
sus Christ had already provided for them.

How To Gain Access To
Ultimate Knowledge:
In order to obtain ultimate knowledge, a person
must study and immerse themselves, not solely and
exclusively in the acquiring of facts, but also in the
familiarity and personal experience that is gotten by
getting to actually know the source of all knowledge
– God the Father. That was Paul’s prayer and desire
for the Ephesians.

Can’t We All Just Get Along: Peace
In Relationships:
The  Ephesian  Christians  were  having  problems
dealing with their individual relationships. They
were having conflicts and a lack of real hope and
peace. This originated from their lack of under­
standing that they now had hope and were now at
peace with God. “… ye were without Christ, being
aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and stran­
gers  from  the  covenants  of  promise,  having  no
hope, and without God I the world…” (Eph. 2:12).
They thought that they were still in that hopeless
condition; and lived like it.

Every issue of About My Father's Business maga­
zine features an ordinary person who believes that
God has called them to be a forerunner in helping to
establish His kingdom and  helping to bring people
to Himself.
In this issue of About My Father's Business, we will
feature Robert Bradley. Robert is the founder of
Spirit Warrior Ministries and SW Graphix.
Q: So, Robert how did you come to know the Lord
Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
A: That happened when I was around twelve years
old. I was brought up in the church and one day, be­
ing the logical and reasonable kid that I was, realized
that I didn’t want to go to hell. And so, I asked Jesus
to save me and keep me from going to hell. Yep, it was
fire insurance salvation.
Q: What has your Christian experience been like?
A: It’s been an adventure to say the least. I’ve always
had an interest in spiritual and mysterious things, in­
cluding various Christian denominations, things like
Eastern and African religions, as well as, the occult.
While getting me into some strange and very bad situ­
ations, it allowed me to examine experience and com­
pare Christianity and its various forms with what the
bible actually says. I’ve been able to see the character
of God a little better and have a funny awareness
when  something  doesn’t  seem  to  line  up  with  His
character even when scriptures from the bible are be­
ing used.
I still have a lot of growing to do. But overall, it has
been good. Like I said, bumpy at times due to my curi­
ous nature and I probably didn’t mention my lapses
and lack of faith which rears its ugly head at the worst
times.
Q: I know that you are that creator and writer for
AMFB Magazine right? What are you currently
working on other than writing for AMFBN.ORG
A: Well, I’m actually trying to slow down and focus
on writing and putting together instructional materi­

als. Now, the form of those instructional materials is
what’s really crazy right now. Along with the AMFB
Magazine, I’m currently working on putting together
a two series of bible studies; one for the AMFBN In­
stitute  and  one  for  The  Church  Connected.  The
Church Connected is the physical community of be­
lievers who meet under the umbrella of Spirit Warrior
Ministries. I’m also working on two other magazines,
The Spirit Warrior and Artist Helping Artist. I have
what has become a bi­monthly comic strip, Dogg Day
Afternoon featuring Mac and have started writing the
storyline to one called The Voice.
Let’s see, I’ve just finished the rough draft of a book
that I’ve been writing entitled “The Married Help”
and people have been asking me to add more to a
short story that I submitted to a writing contest. Ap­
parently, they want me to make it into a full novel.
Aside from that, I’m just maintaining several client
websites and working at a company as part­time sales
support staff. With all that I’m doing now, I’ve decid­
ed not to take on anymore large website or design
projects. I’ll do the one to three pagers, but nothing
large that includes a lot of graphics or multimedia.
And I’ll take on writing assignments as I get them.
Q: We here at AMFBN consider you a forerunner
but how do you see yourself being used by God in
these last days.
A: For me, that’s kind of funny, because I don’t really
see myself as a forerunner. I just see myself as some­
one here to help and have been given the gift of teach­
ing and writing. I see myself being used by God to
help ordinary people see that there is more to life than
the world system that we have been put into. There
are a lot of things going on behind the scenes that
people don’t know about, either through deception or
through ignorance. Like the children of Israel, after
years of living in a system of “beneficent oppression”
when  they  were  given  a  chance  for  freedom  they
pushed against it. I think most people are like that.
With freedom come responsibility and the possibility
of failure and those two things scare people.
It is my hope that God can use me to create materials
so that His word can be taught, His character known,
people can have real hope and the practicality of liv­
ing a holy life dedicated to Him becomes a reality in
more people.
Q: How important is it to you that everyone is
aware of what Gods doing in this season.
A: I think is extremely important. Technology has
made advances globalization or the inter­connected­
ness of the entire world a reality. Unlike centuries or
even years ago when contacting and connecting with
someone on the other side of the world took a lot of
work and planning; now it’s no more than a push of a
button. Under the guise of safety for all, governments
are implementing policies that are creating the move
to a one world government in outward practice. With­

out a clear understanding of God and His plan for
people,  societies  are  going  to  welcome  the
government’s intervention in their personal and pri­
vate lives. Currently the buzz words are “hope” and
“change” and people may not fully understand where
the hope is coming from and what the changes are
truly going to be.
Q: How has the enemy tried to stop your vision
and how have you overcome him.
A: Wow, that’s a good question. I would have to say
that he’s used his common tools of lies, deception and
fear. He’s tried to keep me back financially, but that
has just been a minor inconveniencies. I think that the
major ways has been trying to capitalize on my fears
and weaknesses. I have a problem saying no and try­
ing to help everybody, sometimes to my own demise.
I’ve tended to put a lot of things and people above and
before what I should have been focusing on and it has
cost me a lot of time, money and resources that should
have been used in completing the vision that God has
given me; not the desires that others have had for me.
I think the other way, that Satan has tried to stop me
is by playing up my fear of failure and lack of securi­
ty. Sometimes, I would be thinking that I just need to
do something and then rationalize myself out of it. I
would tell myself that if I did this or that I wouldn’t
have anything to fall back on. Or, I need to take care
of my family; that’s what a man is supposed to do and
I would end up stuck and put things on the back burn­
er.
And  then  I  am  constantly  reminded  about  the  sin
that’s in my own life. And with that the thoughts come,
“How can you help anybody else when you have so
many things wrong with yourself?” “You know, you
are being a hypocrite if you think that you can try to
help others and you can’t even help yourself.”  Those
types of thought are what led me to maintain 2Cor.
10: 3­5 as one of my main verses. I have to constantly
and consciously cast down imaginations and every
[high] proud thing that tries to put itself above and
against the knowledge of God and bring every thought
captive and under the obedience of Christ. It’s hard,
but necessary.
Q: What advice do you have for our readers who
want to follow their dreams in God but keep get­
ting distracted.

A: This is going to sound really simplistic, but you
have to pray, really get into God’s word with an open
attentive heart and mind, find some solid people who
will stand behind you and support you. And with that,
I’m not talking about people who will agree with eve­
rything that you are doing or want to do. You need to
have balanced fellowship; people who will make you
question whether what you want to do is of yourself or
of God. And you have to be willing to work and stick it
out when either nothing seems to be happening or it
looks like you’re going backwards instead of forward.
Q: How long have you been writing and were do
you get the inspiration from.
A: I  can’t  remember  not  writing.  I  know  in  high
school and college, I would rather write a paper or
papers than take a test. I love to write and it doesn’t
matter what. I write
all types of things,
whether it creative,
instructional or opin­
ion and it can be on
almost any subject
because I also love to
read and do research.
I generally get my in­
spiration from any­
where. If something
that I see or hear or
experience strikes me
the wrong way, I’ll
right  about  it.  It
strikes me the right way, I’ll write about it. That’s one
of the reasons that I believe this is a gift from God. It
doesn’t take a lot for me to just start writing. And I
found that I very seldom need to create an outline. I
usually know what I want to say and then fill the rest
in and around that subject.
Q: If there was one thing you could've have done
differently what would it be?
A: I don’t think that there is one thing that I would
have done differently. If I could do anything, it would
be to change a series of decisions that I made which
prevented me from spending as much time as I wanted
with my son and being able to do more to help him
and his mother.
Q: Where is AMFB Magazine going from here?
The day was finally over and Jay was on his way
home. Home, now that was a place that wasn't as
appealing as it use to be. Leaving one undesirable
situation to go to another – what more could a person
want.
Work was a place full
boredom, frustration
and futility. Yes, a
boss  who  seemed
more at home in a
circus or an insane
asylum, filled Jay's
life with tedious work
that was as mentally
and emotionally stim­
ulating as watching
plastic decompose.
Nothing that Jay did
was correct or if it
was correct, it took
too long to get it
finished. Everyday Jay dreaded going to work and
couldn't wait for it to be over.
And now it was over and here he was ­ going home.
What did Jay have waiting for him at home? At home
Jay has a wife who has very little reverence for him as
a man and the head of the home. He has children who
seem to be as frustrated with him as he is with his
boss at work. And he is beginning to wonder if he
really loves his wife. Nothing he ever does is ever
right or enough. Often Jay wonders if he actually left
work when he arrived home.
Now caught in a traffic jam, Jay wonders, “Why do I
always seem to be fighting? Everything seems to be
an unseen war and I’m losing. Maybe I should just go
back to my old lifestyle”  Sighing, Jay shouts, “There
has to be more to life than this....!!!!!”
Jay is a Christian, but by his attitudes and actions, it’s
hard to believe it.  Jay feels totally defeated and pow­
erless. And so, he’s made it a point of not letting any­
one know that he is a Christian. All he wants to do is
get through this life as quickly and as quietly as

possible. Those who really know him describe him as
living a life of “quiet desperation.”
If this sounds like you, I want you to know that it was
happening to the people who lived in and “went to
church” in the ancient city of Ephesus. That’s why the
apostle Paul wrote his letter to the them. These people
were walking around, living lives of quiet desperation.
They felt defeated in their spiritual lives, their family
lives and their work lives. The Christians of Ephesus
went through their lives wondering if there is some­
thing more to life that they’re missing. They were
looking for the secret to a victorious, spirit filled life;
a happy, prosperous and peaceful life. Without realiz­
ing it, what they were looking for was a peaceful rela­
tionship with God the Father
As we study the book of Ephesians in this issue of
About My Father’s Business, keep in mind that these
New Testament Christians were experiencing some of
the same struggles, defeats and failures in their lives
that we experience in our daily lives.
So, keep in mind that God made us alive, “who were
dead in trespasses and sins” because we are God’s
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for the purpose
of fulfilling good works, which God had declared that
we should do throughout our lives . (Eph. 21, 10)
Yes, there is more than just living according to the rat
race that society wants us to run. Yes, there is life out­
side of the cage of our former lifestyle. A peaceful
and victorious life is available through Him [God]
who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that
we  can  ask  or  think,  according  to  the  power  that
works in us. This is so that God will be glorified in
His church through Christ Jesus throughout all ages
and world without end.

Written by the apostle Paul around 62 AD,
the letter to the Ephesians was focused on
helping the Ephesian Christians and those
in the surrounding areas live their daily
lives based on the what God the Father,
through Jesus Christ had already provided
for them.
Paul constantly contrasted their former
way of life with the way of life that they
should live being empowered by the Holy
Spirit.
Similar to Paul’s other letters, the Ephesian
letter first sets the foundation; stating who
God is and what He has done. He explains
the human condition before coming into
God’s family and how it is after being in
God’s family.
Once the foundation is set, Paul moves into
the practical application based on the foun-
dation being in place. He makes it clear
that doctrine and teaching is of no use
without the application of the doctrine in
daily lives of the believers.
Paul ends the letter asking for prayer and
informing them of some business matters
that will be addressed.
Chapter One
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the
saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:
2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the
Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who
hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in
Christ:
4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of

the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him
in love:
5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus
Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made
us accepted in the beloved.
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgive­
ness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and pru­
dence;
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according
to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might
gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in
heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being
predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all
things after the counsel of his own will:
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted
in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of
truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that
ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption
of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus,
and love unto all the saints,
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in
my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye
may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of
the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us­ward
who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the
dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and
dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world,
but also in that which is to come:
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the
head over all things to the church,
23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Chapter Two
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and
sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this
world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit
that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in
the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the
mind; and were by nature the children of wrath,
even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he
loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together
with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in
heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of
his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of your­
selves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto
good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in
the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called
the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from
the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of
promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are
made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken
down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of
commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself
of twain one new man, so making peace;

16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the
cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and
to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the
Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but­
fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto
an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God
through the Spirit.
Chapter Three
1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you
Gentiles,
2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which
is given me to you­ward:
3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery;
(as I wrote afore in few words,
4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in
the mystery of Christ)
5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of
men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by
the Spirit;
6 That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body,
and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the
grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his pow­
er.
8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace
given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable
riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery,
which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God,
who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in
heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wis­
dom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ
Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access
with confidence by the faith of him.
13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at
my tribulations for you, which is your glo­
ry.
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the
Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven
and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to
the riches of his glory, to be strengthened
with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by
faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in
love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all
saints what is the breadth, and length, and
depth, and height;
19 And to know the love of Christ, which
passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled
with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceed­ God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure

Chapter Four

longsuffering, forbearing one another in

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the
Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even
as ye are called in one hope of your call­

If you could have access to all of the knowledge of the
universe,  would  you  want  it?  If  you  had  it,  what
would you do with it?
Living a normal life is a basic accumulation of knowl­
edge and putting that knowledge to use. A person who
can put knowledge to use in the right way and at the
right time is considered wise. That’s one of the big
attractions with game shows ­ the fact that people
have knowledge that others may not have.
Having knowledge, especially when its considered
secret knowledge, is a sought after commodity. It’s
the stuff that secret societies, cults and the occult are
made  of.  “Knowledge  is  Power”  comes  from  the
thought that having secret knowledge gives one per­
son an advantage over another person. The belief that
secret knowledge leads to enlightenment or an en­
lightened sense of consciousness is what drives books
like The Secret and The Power of Now; books on
Oprah’s book club. This secret enlightened knowledge
was one of the foundations of Gnosticism and is still
taught now at a lot of motivational speaking confer­
ences and workshops just using different wording.
Even in Christian circles, if you listen closely, you
will hear teachings that focus on secret knowledge and
the power of the universe that is within.
The seeker of true ultimate knowledge will be present­
ed with several counterfeits and imitations presenting
itself  as  true  knowledge.  What  the  seeker  of  true
knowledge must remember is that true and ultimate
knowledge must come from the source; not a creation
of the source. Contrary to the teachings of some, the
source of ultimate knowledge does not originate
inside of us. We do not attract the forces of ultimate
knowledge by being in harmony with the universe.
And no, we are not the source of ultimate knowledge
and truth and joy, etc. In short, we are not God and we
can’t make God into our image.
Knowledge by definition is,
“1. acquaintance with facts, truths, or princi­
ples, as from study or investigation; general
erudition: knowledge of many things… 3. ac­

quaintance or familiarity gained by sight, ex­
perience, or report: a knowledge of human
nature.  4. the fact or state of knowing; the
perception of fact or truth; clear and certain
mental apprehension… 8. the sum of what is
known...” (www.dictionary.com)
People generally equate knowledge with the simply
the accumulation of facts, which is the primary thrust
of the definitions. However, true knowledge goes be­
yond the gaining
of  facts.  True
knowledge, as
definition three
describes, incor­
porates personal
familiarity that is
obtained primari­
ly through
personal experience with the object of the knowledge
sought. For example, you can only know a person by
spending time with that person. Likewise, you can
only know art or an art by actually studying and
immersing yourself into the art.
And therefore, in order to obtain ultimate knowledge,
a person must study and immerse themselves, not
solely and exclusively in the acquiring of facts, but in
the familiarity and personal experience that is gotten
by getting to actually know the source of all knowl­
edge – God the Father. That was Paul’s prayer and
desire for the Ephesians.
“I do not cease to give thanks for you, making
mention of you in my prayers. [For I always
pray] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of Glory, that He may grant you a spir­
it of wisdom and revelation – of insight into
mysteries and secrets – in the [deep and inti­
mate] knowledge of Him, By having the eyes
of your heart flooded with light, so that you
can know and understand the hope to which
He has called you and how rich is His glorious
inheritance in the saints – His set­apart ones.
And [so that you can know and understand]
what is the immeasurable and unlimited and
 surpassing greatness of His power in and for
us who believe, as demonstrated I the working
of His mighty strength...” (Eph. 1:17­19Amp).
Based on the above passage, ob­
taining ultimate knowledge origi­
nates with God the Father; “that
He may grant you”. While people
search for ultimate knowledge and
secret mysteries, unless they are
seeking the true ultimate knowl­
edge they are like someone in the
dark looking for a light switch
that will illuminate the room so
that they can see all that is there.
They don’t understand that unless God the Father
gives them the spirit of wisdom and revelation, the
closest  that  they  will  come  to  knowing  ultimate
knowledge is the dim outline and vague details that
happen when a person’s eyes get accustom to the
dark. The person may see a little more and a little
clearer, but they can never have the full knowledge of
the details and the experience that they would have in
a fully lighted room.
God the Father has to help those seeking to know Him
better. First, God the Father has to give the seeker the
spirit of wisdom and revelation in order to know Him
better. And second, God the Father has to open the
eyes of the person’s heart to be enlightened in order to
know Him better. Without those two things happen­
ing, a person can know of God the Father and be ac­

quainted with some of the facts associated with God
the Father. But, the true and intimate knowledge that
comes from personal familiarity and personal experi­
ence will be missing.
So, what does a person need to do to gain access to
ultimate knowledge? As Jesus told the Pharisee
Nicodemus; “You must be born again.” Once a person
has asked Jesus to come into their heart and take over
their life as both Lord and Savior, they must spend
time getting to know Him ­ “He who knows the Son
knows the Father”
Reading about Him in books, seeing portrayals of
Him in movies and listening to others tell about Him
in sermons is good and is necessary, but a person must
spend personal time with God in prayer and studying
Him in His autobiography; the bible.
As a person spends time with God the Son,  Jesus
Christ, they are spending time with God the Father
and God the Holy Spirit can reveal more knowledge
to that person.
Take time to spend time with the One who has
ultimate knowledge.

Matthew hesitantly opened the door. He could hear
the shouts from the street and he knew that this was
going to be a long night. “Hello, I’m home.” And be­
fore the last words had settled in the air, three young­
sters of various ages from five to fifteen came at him
all clamouring for attention and his decisions in medi­
ating several conflicts. The arguments had started ear­
lier  during  the  day  and  had  continued,  getting
progressively worst until this moment.
Then coming from another room and speaking in a
tone that all but muted the youngsters, was Matthew’s
wife. From the tone of her voice and the expression on
her face, to say that she wasn’t happy was an under­
statement.  And  she  jumped  right  into  the
“conversations” and bombarded Matthew with ques­
tions, accusations and problems that she was having
and wanted straightened out.
In the beginning there was harmony and peaceful co­
existence. And why was there harmony and peace
during that time; in a word ­ mutual submission. Man
and woman lived together by submitting to God and
to one another.
Once the sin of Adam entered into the world and the
curse as a result of the sin, peaceful co­existence has
been a battle and usually a losing battle. But, with the
life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the curse
was removed and those who have turned their lives

over to Him now
have the internal
ability to live be­
yond  the  curse.
Now, that is not to
say  that  people
cannot outwardly
live in peace. As
with most things, it
becomes a matter
of  the  will  and
choosing to live in
peace. But, in most
cases, it’s a choice
to obey, acquiesce
or tolerate people and/or situations. It’s not a case of
mutual submission and honor given to a person’s role.
The Ephesian Christians were having problems deal­
ing with their relationships. They were having con­
flicts  and  a  lack  of  real  hope  and  peace.  This
originated from their lack of understanding that they
now had hope and were now at peace with God. “…
ye were without Christ, being aliens from the com­
monwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants
of promise, having no hope, and without God I the
world…” (Eph. 2:12).  They thought and lived as
though they were still in that condition.
Still living under the curse, the thought of someone
else having power and control over their life caused
internal and external conflict. And that’s still the case
today. In addressing this issue, in Paul’s letter to the
Ephesians, he states, “I beseech you that ye walk wor­
thy of the vocation wherewith ye are call, with all low­
liness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing
one another in love; endeavoring to keep the unity of
the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Eph. 4:1­3)
His answer to living in harmony and getting along
with others was short and to the point; 1). Be wise, 2).
Be controlled, 3).Be worshipful, 4). Be thankful, 5).
Be submissive, 6). Be strong in the Lord and 7). Be
prayerful.

The fifth point which deals with submission and the
sixth point which deals with strength are where Paul
decides to stay and explain in more practical detail.
Regarding submission; submission wasn’t to be sim­
ply an act of the will, which would just be obedience,
it was to be an act of the heart. The submission that
Paul was talking about was based on the fact that the
Ephesians Christians first had peace with God and
were part of his family, which included everything
that an heir is entitled to as part of the God’s promises
and covenant with His people. This is laid out in Eph­
esians chapter two. This submission was also based on
the fact that God is sovereign and as such, is in com­
plete control over what happens to His people, which
is explained in detail in Ephesians chapters one and
three.
Believing themselves to still be in a condition lacking
peace and hope with God, they saw themselves in a
perpetual power struggle. The ability to submit and
give honor to another person in their role or position,
was seen as a sign of weakness and disrespect, espe­
cially if there were people put over them in the role of

a master/husband/parent or under them in the role of a
servant/wife/child.
The ability to submit to those who are doing every­
thing opposed to the will of God is to have no barring
on a person’s ability and willingness to be in submis­
sion. However, that can only happen when the person
is first submitted to God and then see who they are
really in conflict with, “For we wrestle not against
flesh and blood [people], but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this world, against spiritual wickedness in high plac­
es…” (Eph. 6:12) and then they are able to submit to
others.
