Cyberbullying: Causes and Prevention Strategies," Student Pulse, 2010.

Cyberbullying isn’t just for a specific person or group of people. Even though a lot are
victims that are obese, gay, disabled, bi/multiracial, most of these are girls. Mrs. Favela
Lori shows us of how this can be by studying on the subject at Liberty university in
Virginia. She shows us a study created by two researchers Hinduja and Patchin found that
over 28% of girls are bullied and 18% are males. Not only they are victims, but they are
also involved with the bullying, however, they do both offline as they do online. In fact, it
is also noted that girls do it to gain others attention some for friends, but mostly for guys.
For example, if a guy liked one girl instead of the other the other girl would do what she
can to make girl number 1 not as appealing as others. They don’t want to make it to
obvious and get in trouble with it so thy use the internet in order to spread the rumor or
“Gossip” around.

Out of all the articles I’ve used this one shows more examples than the rest which is
literally bolded and highlighted in red. They even show how to address female cyber
Alexander 2

bullying by ordering each point as well even showing the parents how girls can easily get
caught up in these circumstances.

If were to teach a class or present this I’d do this to towards more for the parents than
anyone else. I like how it asks “What can you as a parent do” like it’s a direct lesson to
the audience who has kids.

This article is about a girl who hanged herself because of cruel messages that a 16 years
old boy sent her on social-networking site MySpace. Legislators across America
recommended new law, because of Megan (the girl who hanged herself). In Florida, the
state senate proposed a bill that would require all school districts to punish student who
uses electronic devices to bully; even if it takes place off campus. Some people believe
that new laws are not the solution. They believe parents and other adults should pay
attention to teens' behavior.

This article convinces the readers to see how dangerous cyberbullying is; it also tells the
reader what the government and other people want to do to try to stop cyberbullying.
I can use the girl they talk about in this article as an example in my research paper, and I
can also talk about the bill the Florida's state senate proposed.

This journal article shows us a brief explanation and statistics of how Cyberbullying
affects just a sample of the population. Bullying itself goes throughout K-12 classrooms
to college, but cyberbullying is just an extension of it. Using technology like social
media, emails, public comments, and web pages to hurt someone. According to Juvonen
he surveyed about 1415 students and found that 72% were bullied, at least once and 85%
at school, 75% were mostly women, and over 90% said they were afraid to report it. Most
of the students were between ages 12 and 17. Mr. Dulmac also cooperated in the study
trying to find the motivation of bullies by conducting interviews with students who were
undergraduates. He found that it’s not just aggression, but also succorance which is like
making a good time out of it. As if they were making a joke out of it which is actually
hurting the person. Dulmac asked one of the students “Is the point of bullying just trying
to be funny?” A lot of the responses were “Yeah I guess we don’t really realize that
someone is getting hurt more mentally than physically. Some students say that when one
person gets bullied they’ll do it back or to a completely different person. Others say that
it was when I get stressed or emotional I would take it out on the next person then it goes
on from there.

I like this article it gives us an idea of how many people even if it’s just a small portion of
Alexander 4

the population. It even gives the audience what a bully feels and thinks like.

Since I read this article I can try to use it to help others as well as use it in controversy
arguments to support getting rid of cyber bullying.

Huffington Post, TheHuffingtonPost.com, 16 Feb. 2015, www.huffingtonpost.com/anna-

I've read a blog who was by s girl who was a victim of cyberbullying. In this post she
explains how she feels. She didn't know what to do when going to school and how she
would handle the pain. Most of her days she says she hangs out in the nurse's office
making lies that she doesn't feel well just to escape from all the judgment being thrown at
her. She eats alone and always getting what she calls “dirty eyes”. Anna tries her best to
avoid and when she gets home she listens to inspirational songs like “Shake it off” as
well as read the inspirational quotes off the walls in her room, but it wasn't enough. When
she was in school she didn't talk to anyone or even try to get in any conversations. This
will be her routine that seems like it'll be the rest of her life where she isolates herself
from the world and no one seemed to even ask if she was okay. She's always getting told
that she'll get better, but it obviously won't if this continues and if it does she'll do
something to herself that no one would see coming.

I chose this blog mainly because we need to know how it feels to be bullied. To be inside
the mind of a victim of bullying and see through her eyes. I didn't go too in depth with
what she said, but it’s more of a summary of what she went through in high school.
Alexander 5

I would use this blog mostly to show other victims and see their reaction, viewpoints, and
maybe share their own experiences of bullying. When people see this they'll comprehend
of how heartbreaking her life will be. Maybe then others will pay more attention to
people who may not seem like they need help and think twice about the situation

This article is about how Mrs. Jessica Mendoza asks a question that many others wonder
as well. “If technology gave rise to cyberbullying can it be used to stop it?” Mrs.
Mendoza shoes us some of the social media websites like twitter and Facebook taking a
stand against cyberbullying deleting comments and locking accounts to those who are
harassing other people. An app was also created called “STOPit” allowing victims to
report to preselected adults if they were abused or sees it happening to someone else.
When STOPit came about a few other apps like it were put into the app store such as
"Bully block” and “Bully Box”.This is such a great article giving us what apps are out
there so others can learn about it and share it with others. A lot of the social media
applications are also looking out for bullying which is great.

I can personally use this information to share with others if they are being bullied or
maybe use it for myself. This is definitely the type of information people need; people
just want to live their happy and peaceful lives.
“Statistics” NVEEE, LookNtoit Technologies 2016. www.nveee.org/statisics/
Alexander 6

These On this website it is nothing, but statistics on cyberbullying. Students that are
bullying is obviously trying grow in more socializing way to bring down students who
already have low self- esteem and that need mental care. These are percentages that show
how bad cyberbullying is affecting our country. “In the U.S. Only 7% of parents are even
worried or aware of cyberbullying, yet 33% of teenagers are still being victims of it.” Of
all the people in the world compared to those of a single race most if not all of these
victims are biracial or multiracial. 63% of victims are either obese, gay, or have
disabilities. It's obvious that everyday a child gets bullied which affects the child from
even going to class because it's estimated over 160,00 children miss school because of
these incidents. Rarely parents, school staff, even peers try to stop this from happening
which is something that must shame if we want to prevent students from hurting
themselves. Hurting themselves by not getting their education like not going to school or
getting poor grades, physically abused and videos are posted over the internet, and
mentally. Suicide rates are slowly rising up starting around age 11 and 14 since the past
year.
This website shows more than 50 facts about cyberbullying and its statistics over the
year. It’s helpful to give the audience an idea of what’s going on around them and how
they're blind to it.
In my own paper I'd use this to get one's attention of how cyberbullying affects ages at
such a young age. Making them aware of maybe their own kids or peers. Once they know
they should react in a way that is positive.

This news report is from Australia written by Peter Sutton. He explains the tragic even of
how Amy Everett has taken her own life because of cyber bullying. The teenage girl got
messages that were pretty horrible considering she has had text that says “Filthy whore”
and “looking like her head was kicked in”. There was even evidence that she was caught
in a fight being beat on. Other incidences where a boy was being picked on because of his
weight and was videotaped being physically abused all over Instagram. These were just a
couple of kids who’ve experienced bullying out of 33% of Sydney, Australia. Parents
need to get their kids trust as well as leading them away from incidents such as these.
Parents also need to look into cyber-bullying so they can understand how important and
tragic this subject can be. The parents also need to have something they call a “Go-To”
person which is anyone that can look after the kid when they’re not anywhere near their
own parents or guardian.

This article is extremely important to me because of the fact it explains what are the best
ways to help your own child. They show incidents of what other kids go through so they
can feel that emotion of maybe my own child is being cyber bullied and perhaps I’m not
aware of it.

In my paper I can see this to talk to not just my parents, but other parents and guardians
that have kids of their own. For a parent or guardian to lose their own child is heart
breaking for most. So, I believe that I can get them to understand that they don’t have to
witness or even think about these future incidents.

Mr. Bahati Russel a researcher finds out about a kid attempting suicide after being bullied
over the internet. He got more into the cyber-bullying and dug up something he finds
“heart-breaking” seeing the statistics of how many kids are bullied each year got him
emotional. He states that “I believe the media brings more negative damage than
positive.” It may sound harsh and maybe over exaggerating, but if you look at the
statistics you’d think twice about. When you look at funny videos of someone getting
hurt do kids think twice about how the victim feels. No it’s just a funny video for kicks.
He also believes that “that social media easily targets the youth because it’s the best way
to find entertainment”. Bahiti writes a blog of what all he researched and how he feels
about the situation. He believes that cyber-bullying must be stopped before it gets too out
of hand.
I believe it’s nice to see other people’s blogs and viewpoints on certain things. You can’t
be one sided on everything find the time to actually research a few things on a controv
ersy. Mr. Russel himself didn’t think it was necessary himself, until he looked into it

In this this article the author gives the administrators tips to prevent cyber bullying, and
she also tells us some stuff that cyber bullying can cause. The author said that in 2011
28% high school and middle school aged students reported being bullied at school; nine
percent reported being cyber bullied. The author listed eight different forms of cyber

bullying. The victim or the offender have lower self-esteem than those who had no
experience with cyber bullying. Self-esteem issues can cause students to drop out of
school and more.

This article is useful because it gives the percent of how many students who had been
bullied in 2011 (in 2011 we didn't even have much technologies as we do today). Now
that we do have this technology we can prepare other future generations on how to
counter these events.

I can use the eight different forms of cyber bullying and some of the tips she gave the
administrators to prevent cyber bullying in my research paper.

Teensafe.com is website known for its statistics on teen problems and how to solve them.
The website gives a whole page one statistics such as the most common causes of cyber-
bullying. What groups are affected whether it’s race or gender. It gives us a statistic of
responses from students of how the students would react as well as respond to bullying
situations. This website is just full on numbers and charts that are not only factual, but
reliable.
I can vouch that can be great site for research papers. If any student whether high school
or college want to look find any evidence of cyber bullying Teensafe.com is the website
to go to.

If I were to use this in class such as a debate class I would surely be able to win the case.
There’s nothing better than throwing evidence in someone’s face showing them proof of
cyber-bullying affects each and every person whether it’s in school or a work place
