I Corinthian 1:1-2
Introduction: It is very crucial to know who we are in Christ, Identity is what is true about us. And the healthy identity is
we believe what is true about us. If our identity is Biblical this will be a beautiful process, because out of our biblical identity
we live the Christian life. We live who we believe we are. It is impossible to live a life different from what you believe you
are. Unfortunately, the evil one can deceive us to believe a LIE-DENTITY. The devil throws a lie and we believe it and create
an identity around that lie. And the problem is out of the LIE-DENTITY comes certain TENDENCIES, sinful ACTIONS, then
comes bad CONSEQUENCES, then REALITY, and leads to more Sinful TENDENCIES. And the bad cycle continues.
Tendencies
Tendencies
It is so important to know who you are
IV. Our nature when we were born. We are born SINNERS because we are in Adam. We become sinner not
because we do sins, we do sins because it is our nature.
“For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be
made righteous.” Romans 5:19. In the same way through the obedience of Christ we became righteous. NOT
(less, Sinful, better Sinners, less frequent Sinners). We are called righteous, holy, or saints. This means that:
If we are in Adam we are predisposed to sin – Romans 5:19
If we are in Christ we are predisposed to walk in holiness – I Peter 1:15-16 ; Heb 12:14
A. We don’t elevate Christ by pretending that what He did on the cross did not make us holy.
B. We elevate Christ by saying that what He did on the cross is enough to make us holy. From Sinner to a
Saint.
V. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new.
A “new creature” – Gr. ktisis creation – create- to create something out of nothing.
When we are saved God does not make us more holy sinner. He makes us a new person, a saint.
Saint- Gr. hagiazo – to make holy (ceremonially), purify or consecrate;(mentally) to venerate; hallow, be
holy, sanctity
“If we are in Christ, we are not a Sinners saved by grace, but we are Saints who sometimes sin “
1. Our sainthood is not based on our performance, it is based on what Christ did for us. - I Cor 1:1-2; cf
6:11.
2. We are saints by calling – Romans 1:7; I Corinthians 1:2. The word sanctified gives us an idea of temple
furniture being sanctified and set apart for the temple’s used (Exo 40:9; 30:26). Something (things,
utensils, people, priests, kings) ordinary or dirty being purified and cleansed for the sole purpose of
being use of God.
3. Sanctification is done by Christ in us by His shed blood. We do not sanctify ourselves.
4. We are called to present ourselves holy – Colossians 1:21-22
