Nokia Flexi EDGE BTS:
simpler architecture with fewer units
• Smallest starting configuration with 2 modules:
• Logical Sector module, comprising:
• Dual TRX module
• Dual duplexer module*
• System module
• All Nokia Flexi EDGE BTS modules are GSM and EDGE
compliant

Differences compared to Nokia UltraSite
EDGE BTS
• Nokia Flexi EDGE BTS is based a the new Nokia Flexi BTS platform
• Modular BTS structure is based on 19” mechanics
• No cabinet is needed for a fully functional BTS
• No BTS back-plane to fix module positions: Ethernet based signaling
between modules
• Nokia Flexi EDGE BTS has a different module design
• Dual TRX module with integrated Baseband and add-on duplex filter
• System module providing BTS O&M, transmission and power distribution
• New BTS installation options
• Stack, wall and pole mounting
• Nokia Flexi EDGE Dual TRX can be optimized either for Capacity or
Double Power modes
• Capacity mode: both TRXs in the unit are used for capacity (bypass or
combining is used)
• Double Power transceiver (DPTRX): synchronized combining of TRX to one
antenna feeder to double the power

UltraSite BTSvs Flexi EDGE BTS – main Architectural
differences
• Ethernet Replacing former DBUS and FBUS
• Network Processor handling ABIS & BTS O&M
• Single DSP in DTRX Handling:
• DSP
• TRX O&M
• Telecom signalling
• Two carriers
• SW storage only at BTS level (in System Module) and SW DL to
units at every boot-up
• Transmitter Coherent Combining Support in DTRX
• TRX loop only at sector level
• RTC controlling TRX loop at frame/TS level
• Power On/Off switching at unit level (from Power Distribution
Module)
