1 System requirements
This section explains the supported OS (operating system) and connection environment.

1.1 OS (operating system) that you can use

z Windows
The following table shows the operating environment of the printer driver.

OS (operating system) Windows 2000 Professional

Windows XP Home Edition (SP2, SP3)
Windows XP Professional (SP2, SP3)
Windows Vista Business x32 Edition (SP1)
Windows 7 Professional (32-bit version, 64-bit version)

z Macintosh
The following table shows the operating environment of the printer driver.

System software Mac OS 8.6 to 9.2.2

Mac OS X10.2, 10.3, 10.4

1.2 Printer connection environment

Printers are generally connected using the LAN cables, however, if the printer is D703 and using a PC that functions as both
operation PC and printer PC, connect them using the USB cable.

z Connection using LAN cable

Therefore, your PC must be capable of connecting to the network.
Set a unique IP address for your PC.
NOTE
• TCP/IP is used as the network protocol.
• For details of TCP/IP, see ☞ 7.2 Basic knowledge and required environment for network connection.
The following device is required for printing using the printer driver.
Example: Connecting your PC directly to the printer
Your PC Printer
Install the printer driver.

• Configuring the IP address and subnet mask (operation on Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 PC)
• Checking the connection between the PC and the printer

IMPORTANT
• If you have already set the network, skip this step.
Go to the next step.
• ☞ 2.4 Installing the printer driver
• If there is an administrator of your network, ask him/her before setting.
Wrong settings make it impossible to connect the network.

2.5 Configure the settings required for printing

Operation
• Selecting display language and unit of display
• Configuring the setting to process many pages at one time
• Registering the print size (Output Size)
• Registering the document size (User Defined Size)

IMPORTANT
• When multiple printers are added, these settings are required for each of the printers.

NOTE
• When you follow the procedure explained below to open the setting display of the printer driver and change its settings,
the values of the settings then become the defaults of the setting display of the printer driver when opened from the
application software.
Therefore, by creating the defaults in this way for values you usually use, you can save time to change the settings each
time when you print.

2.5.1 Setting the display language/unit

This section describes how to select the display language of the printer driver.
The default value is ENGLISH.
If using the default setting without making any changes, perform Step 1 below, and then go to ☞ 2.5.2 Configuring the

2.5.2 Configuring the setting to process many pages at one time

This setting is for processing many pages at one time.
If not processing many pages at one time, go to Registering the print size (output size).
If the general capacity used on the OS is 512 MB (without having any operation on the PC), the remaining amount of
capacity is for the printer driver to use. However it depends on the memory size installed in the PC. When data that are over
this amount of capacity is processed, the PC locks the system and the operation cannot be performed normally. In this case, if
Print directly to the printer is selected, the operation can be performed regardless of the data capacity. However, the
processing capacity will be lower than the setting when Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster is
selected.

IMPORTANT
• If printing with a printer that supports the NPS (Noritsu Printing Service) interface such as the QSS-35PLUS
series, QSS-37 series and Printer Driver only, this function is valid.
• Some functions cannot be used to print with this setting.

7 Additional information

7 Additional information

7.1 Upgrading the printer driver

To provide new functions or improve the printing performance, the printer driver may be upgraded from time to time.
You can obtain more comfortable printing experience using the latest version of the printer driver.
For information of the latest printer driver, contact your technical representative.

7.2 Basic knowledge and required environment for network connection

7.2.1 Required environment for network connection

Hub
Ethernet interface cable

G063450

Ethernet interface cable

Use a commercially available Ethernet interface cable for the connection.
When using a HUB as shown above, use straight cables. When not using a HUB (peer to peer connection), use cross cables.
Ethernet is a network standard and two types of cable connections are provided: 10 BASE and 100 BASE.
Compared with 10BASE, 100BASE offers a much faster data transmission rate.
However, it requires that the HUB and the PC also support 100 BASE data transmission.
For details about network specifications, see the catalog or the Operator's Manual of the PC.
If the specifications indicate support for something like 10/100, this means both 10 BASE and 100 BASE can be used.
If you are not sure of the specifications, use a 100 BASE Ethernet interface cable.

HUB
This is a device that connects a number of Ethernet interface cables together.
PCs and printers on a network are connected via a HUB.

TCP/IP
One of the protocols used for communication on a network.
It is a global standard protocol for communication on the Internet.
This product uses TCP/IP for communication between PCs and the printer.

IP address
As each telephone requires a telephone number, when PCs are used on a network, each of the PCs must have an identifier
(address).
This identifier is called an IP address, which is expressed in an array of numbers (e.g. 192.168.192.168) like a telephone
number.
Each device (PCs and printers) on a network must be assigned an IP address.

Network compatible computers

Your PCs must have a connector for connecting an Ethernet interface cable.

79
7 Additional information

While the connector looks similar in shape to a modular telephone jack, their functions are different.
