With 50,000 entries from all over the world and AEGEAN’s support, the run will once again
highlight the Greek capital’s timeless association with sport and a culture of coexistence.

Για όσους συμμετέχουν είναι πρόκληση, μια αναμέτρηση με τις αντο-
χές τους, σωματικές και ψυχικές. Αλλά και χαρά: του να ζήσουν την
πόλη τους, τον δημόσιο χώρο, όπως σπάνια τους δίνεται η ευκαιρία.
Για την Αθήνα είναι ένα κομμάτι της ιστορίας της. Αποδεικνύει τη δια-
χρονική σχέση της με τον αθλητισμό και την κουλτούρα της συνύπαρ-
ξης. Υπό αυτό το πρίσμα κατανοεί κανείς γιατί ο «Μαραθώνιος Αθήνας.
Ο Αυθεντικός» είναι τόσο δημοφιλής, με τη συμμετοχή να σημειώνει
νέα ρεκόρ κάθε χρόνο. Αλλά δεν είναι μόνο αυτό. Η επιτυχία του δεί-
χνει τη δυναµική ενός παγκόσµιου αθλητικού brand name, μιας διορ-
γάνωσης κύρους, που δεν φοβάται τη σύγκριση με τις αντίστοιχες του
Λονδίνου, του Βερολίνου ή της Νέας Υόρκης και συμβάλλει στον τουρι-
σμό. «Αποτελεί μια δεξαμενή αξιών, κοινωνικής συνείδησης, περιβαλ-
λοντικής ευαισθησίας, φιλίας και αλληλεγγύης», όπως τονίζει ο πρόε-
δρος του ΣΕΓΑΣ Κώστας Παναγόπουλος.
Φέτος ο 35ος «Μαραθώνιος Αθήνας. Ο Αυθεντικός», ο οποίος τελείται υ-
πό την αιγίδα του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας, κ. Προκόπη Παυλόπουλου,
και φέρει την υπογραφή του ΣΕΓΑΣ, με συνδιοργανωτές τους Δήμους

For participants, the “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” repre-
sents a challenge, a battle with personal boundaries, physical and
mental, and also a joy, as a result of the privileged experience the
event offers of the city and its public spaces. For Athens, the event
stands as yet another aspect of the city’s history. The race highlights
the Greek capital’s timeless association with sport and its culture
of coexistence. All this explains the rising popularity of the “Athens
Marathon. The Authentic,” which breaks new participation records
every year. Its success also points to its evolution into a global athletic
brand name, a prestigious, high-calibre event that is on a par with
respective events in London, Berlin and New York, while also contrib-
uting to tourism. “It represents a pool of values, social consciousness,
environmental sensibility, friendship and solidarity,” noted Kostas Pa-
nagopoulos, president of the Greek athletics federation SEGAS.
This year, the 35th “Athens Marathon. The Authentic,” held un-
der the auspices of the Greek President, Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos,
and organised by SEGAS along with the Athens and Marathon mu-

ανθρώπους όλων των ηλικιών και των εθνικοτήτων. Η AEGEAN συμμετέ-
χει για μία ακόμα χρονιά σε αυτή τη γιορτή του «μαζί» ως μεγάλος χορη-
γός. Περισσότεροι από 51.000 δρομείς δηλώνουν αποφασισμένοι να πε-
ράσουν τη γραμμή του τερματισμού, τόσο στην αυθεντική διαδρομή των
42.195 μ. (18.500 συμμετοχές – με αφετηρία τον Μαραθώνα και τερματι-
σμό στο Καλλιμάρμαρο) όσο και στους αγώνες των 5 και 10 χλμ., στον α-
πογευματινό των 5 χλμ. και στους αγώνες για παιδιά και Special Olympics.
Και κάθε τερματισμός –ανεξαρτήτως χρόνου– θα αξίζει το πιο ζεστό χει-
ροκρότημα, γιατί θα κρύβει πίσω του προσπάθεια. Αυτό έχει σημασία.

people of all ages and ethnicities. AEGEAN, on yet another occasion,
is taking part in this celebration of togetherness as a grand sponsor.
Over 50,000 runners have registered and they will be determined
to cross the finish line of the authentic, full-distance race, which
extends 42,195 metres from Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium.
Other events of the day include the shorter 5k and 10k versions, the
afternoon 5k race, a special course for kids and the Special Olym-
pics race. All participants who cover the full course, regardless of the
times they clock, deserve the warmest of praise.
