Quarter FIRST QUARTER
Competency Code S9LT-Ie-f-30

I.OBJECTIVES
a.Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of how changes in
the environment may affect species extinction
b. Performance Standard: The learners should be able to make a multimedia presentation
of a timeline of extinction of representative microorganisms,
plants, and animals
c. Learning Competencies/ 1. Discuss how changes in the environment can affect
Objectives species extinction.
2. Perform specific task showcasing environmental
changes that may result in the loss of species.
3. Develop awareness on the importance of biological
diversity.

II.CONTENT Causes of Species Extinction

IV. PROCEDURES
a.Reviewing the previous lesson Pictures of organisms are to be presented to the class. Student
or Presenting the New Lesson will guess the name of the organism in the picture and the
location where each one is associated.
Nowadays, can we still see an eagle soaring up in the sky,
pawikan swimming in the sea?

b.Establishing a purpose of the Did their population increase or decrease?

lesson What could have caused the decrease in their number?

c.Presenting examples Photo Quiz: The words in the box are some of the causes of
/instances of the new lesson species extinction. Look at the pictures below and identify
which cause of extinction matches each group of pictures.

Taking Animals for Profit Introduction of species Hunting and

Trapping Destruction of habitat Overharvesting Pollution

1.

d. Discussing new concepts and Activity 1.The class will be divided into 5 groups. Each
practicing new skills #1
group will be given an environmental problem in the
community. (Refer to worksheet 1). Analyze the problem.
Determine the effects of the problem, possible solutions
and the action taken by the government to remedy the
situation.
Let the students make a creative presentation for 3
minutes on a certain task assigned to their group.
Group 1-Poem Recitation
Group 2- Song Composition
Group 3- Role Play
Group 4- Poster Slogan Making
Group 5 – Mock TV Show

e. Discussing new concepts and Activity 2 (Six Thinking Hat Strategy). Divide the class into
practicing new skills #2 groups of 6. Ask the students to read the poem “SAVE US
FROM HARM.” Each group will be given a colored hat.
The color of the hat suggests their specific tasks as
follows:
White hat- Wear your white hat and give the facts and
information’s given about the species
mentioned in the poem.
Green hat- Put on your green hat and enumerate
interesting features of Mt. Malindang.
Yellow hat –Take your yellow hat and put it on.
Enumerate the benefits that we can
get from the various species found in Mt.
Malindang.
Black hat – Wear your black hat and predict the result of
man’s activities that have
destroyed the natural resources in Mt.
Malindang.
Red hat – Put on your red hat and put yourself on the
shoes of the wild animals.
What would you feel if Mt. Malindang is
devoid of its cover?
Blue hat – Wear your blue hat and discuss possible
solutions to the present
problems of Mt. Malindang particularly on
wildlife extinction.

f.Developing mastery leading to The teacher will prepare rubrics for the presentation of the
formative assessment outputs of the students.

g. Finding practical application of Is there a day when you do not use some organisms?
concepts and skills in daily living From the time you wake to the time you sleep what
species have been valuable to your life? Why do you
consider them valuable? (Refer to worksheet 2)

h.Making generalizations and What are the causes of the extinction of wildlife?
abstractions about the lesson How are we going to prevent extinction of species?
i.Evaluating learning
Using the fishbone diagram, Identify the major factors that
contribute to the continuous decrease of biodiversity in the
community.

Biodiversity
Loss

1. In your own little way, how can you help in

preventing biodiversity loss in your community?
2. Why is biodiversity should be everyone’s concern?
3. The United Nations General Assembly declared
2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity. It
aims to promote conservation of biologically
diverse ecosystems for sustainable development.
How can a student like you participate in such
endeavors of the United Nations?

j. Additional activities for Let students perform Activity 4 on the Learners module
application/remediation pages 60-68. Each group will be assigned a specific task
to be performed.
Group 1 - brochure making
Group 2- Pop -up making
Group 3- big book making
Group 4 and Group 5- Powerpoint Presentation

V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION

80% in the evaluation
b.No. of learners who require
additional activities for
remediation who scored below
80%
c.Did the remedial lesson work?
No. of learners who have caught
up with the lesson.
d.No. of learners who continue
to require remediation
e.Which of my teaching
strategies work well?
