Dame Agatha Christie was born in 1890 in Devon, England. She was a famous writer.

She wrote
mostly detective stories and novels.

Daughter of a rich american expatriate, little Agatha got private education.

In 1914 she married a soldier and served in the first World War as a nurse in Red Cross hospital
until 1918.

Agatha Chirstie had only one child, a girl named Rosalind. Her first husband was an alcoholic and
made a terrible marriage. She divorced in 1928.

She started her first detective story in 1920 and it was a big success. In 1929 she married second
time an archeologist. She joined him in Syria and Iraq for his yearly excavations but she continued to
write her novels.

She was a prolific writer: she published over 70 books, including the famous Murder in Orient
Express, Death on the Nile. Her stories contained classic plots and the suspense continues until the last
page. There are two main characters in Agatha’s books: Belgian inspector Hercule Poirot and Miss
Marple, and old witty lady.

Agatha also wrote short stories but also theatrical plays. Mousetrap is the longest running play
in London. Her books translated into many languages and they were often adapted for television.

She died in 1976, leaving a wonderful legacy in world literature.
