enable task performance in an accident-free work environment
1. Objective
To ensure that sufficient illumination is maintained which will enable task
performance in an risk free work environment.

2. Responsibility

responsible for the application of this standard in their area.
2.2. The Industrial Hygienist (Industrial Security Department) is responsible for
ensure the application and maintenance of this standard.

3. DEFINITIONS
Lux is a measurement of lighting intensity and is measured by a Lux Meter

4. STANDARD
4.1. Lux-surveys are to be conducted initially and after a modification / new
installation is completed which might influence the illumination. This survey
covers all areas including offices and outside areas. The Industrial
Hygienist (IH) coordinates the survey
4.2. Measure the level of illumination and compare with Lighting Intensity Level
in table No. (1) of this standard and take corrective actions on reported
deviations (see point 4.3).
4.3. Poorly illuminated areas, when identified, must be repaired according to an
action plan based on risk. A follow up survey is to be done to ensure that
corrective actions satisfy the requirements of this standard.
4.4. Night and day illumination surveys must be done to cover the whole work
area and at work places where work might be carried out during hours of
darkness.
4.5. Monthly inspections on illumination and windows are to be done, covering
the whole work area. Deviations/defects must be noted, reported and
repaired.

This document needs to be kept in the Safety and Health Management System (5-Star)
files and made available for auditing purposed.
