About the Drawing Tree

The Drawing Tree is a structured list of the drawing items in an active drawing. Items listed
in the drawing tree can be selected and acted upon using commands in the right mouse
button shortcut menu or ribbon tool bar. The drawing tree indicates the display status of the
drawing items, as well as the relationship of drawing items with respect to the active model
of the drawing.
The Drawing Tree is visible in the Detail and Format modes. However, it is not available in
the Layout, Report, Markup, and Diagram modes.
By default, the Drawing Tree appears above the Model Tree in navigation area of the main
window. You can expand and collapse both the Drawing Tree and the Model Tree. You can
increase or decrease the height of the Drawing or Model Tree by dragging the divider bar
between these trees.

When you select a drawing item on the Drawing Tree, it becomes part of the selection set,
and that item may appear highlighted on the drawing sheet. If the selected item has a
corresponding model item, then the model item appears selected on the Model Tree. If you
select a draft entity node on the Drawing Tree, all draft entities represented by that node
appear selected.

About the Layout and Structure of the Drawing Tree

The Drawing Tree represents a hierarchy of drawing items of the active drawing sheet. The
drawing items are arranged in collapsible groups according to the hierarchy of views and
categories of items within the current drawing sheet. A drawing item is represented only
once in the Drawing Tree. The drawing tree displays only those items related to the active
tab.
All items on the Drawing Tree appear with their current name or ID. From the Drawing Tree,
you can rename any object whose name or ID appears in the Drawing Tree. You can rename
an object by double-clicking the item or by right-clicking the item and clicking Rename
command on the shortcut menu.

You cannot rename BOM balloons as they are dependent on their table.

A drawing item has only a single heading node. The drawing item appears as a sub-node
beneath its heading node.
If a drawing item is hidden, the icon that represents the item on the Drawing Tree appears
grayed out.

Click in the top of the Drawing Tree to perform operations such as display the layer tree,
expand or collapse all nodes of the Drawing Tree, set preselection highlighting, and highlight
geometry.

4/24/2018 About Heading Nodes on the Drawing Tree

Detailed Drawings > Drawing Tree > About Heading Nodes on the Drawing Tree

About Heading Nodes on the Drawing Tree

Heading nodes appear below nodes that differentiate drawing items by type. A heading node
represents a collection of object types within the current drawing sheet and does not
correspond to an actual drawing item. For example, the heading node 'Annotations'
represents a collection of annotation items on the Drawing Tree.

The following points describe heading nodes:

• A heading node appears on the Drawing Tree only if is populated with drawing items. That
is, the drawing tree will not display empty heading nodes.
• You cannot rename a heading node.
• You can expand or collapse contents of a heading node by double-clicking the heading
node or clicking the '+' or '-' signs of the heading node.
• If you use heading nodes for range selection, only drawing objects in nodes that currently
appear expanded are selected.
• During selection of drawing items on the Drawing Tree, you can expand or collapse
heading nodes without affecting the current selection set. That is, when you select
drawing items below an expanded heading node, the selected items become part of the
selection set. You can collapse that heading node without affecting selected items within
the selection set. You can further expand other heading nodes and continue selecting
drawing items to add to the selection set.

Detailed Drawings > Drawing Tree > About Selecting Drawing Items on the Drawing Tree

About Selecting Drawing Items on the Drawing Tree

When you select a drawing item on the Drawing Tree, the node for the item appears
selected and the item is highlighted with the selection color in the graphics window. If the
selected item is not visible on the current sheet, the item will temporarily appear highlighted
with the selection color in the graphics window, and will become not visible again when the
item in the drawing tree is unselected.
When you select an item in the graphics window, the Drawing Tree node for that item
appears selected, if it is represented on the tree in the current task tab. If the item that you
select is below a collapsed node of the Drawing Tree, the node does not expand.
When you select an item on the Drawing Tree or in the graphics window and the item
belongs to the active drawing model, the corresponding model item appears selected on the
active Model Tree. If the model item is below a collapsed node on the Model Tree, the node
does not expand. However, if the active drawing model is not the owner of the selected
drawing item, nothing is selected on the Model Tree.

About the Show Menu on the Drawing Tree

By clicking the icon in the Drawing Tree area allows you can set various options such as
showing the layer tree, expanding or collapsing tree nodes, toggling preselection highlighting
and toggle highlight geometry. A similar icon is available in the Model Tree area.

You can display the layer tree by clicking the icon and then Layer Tree either from the
Drawing Tree or the Model Tree.

If the value of the floating_layer_tree configuration option is set to yes, the layer
tree is not available either on the Drawing Tree or the Model Tree.

If you display the layer tree through the Drawing Tree, the layer tree appears in the Drawing
Tree area. Additionally, the Layer Tree option on the Model Tree becomes unavailable.
Similarly, if you display the layer tree on the Model Tree, the layer tree appears in the Model
Tree area, and the Layer Tree option on the Drawing Tree becomes unavailable.
You can use Expand All and Collapse All on the Drawing Tree and Model Tree to expand
and collapse all nodes of the respective trees.
The Preselection Highlighting and Highlight Geometry options are available on both
Drawing Tree and Model Tree. If you click Preselection Highlighting on the Drawing Tree,
and you move the pointer over item nodes on the Drawing Tree, corresponding drawing
items appear highlighted with the preselection color in the graphics window. Similarly, if you
click Preselection Highlighting on the Model Tree, and move the pointer over the item
nodes on the Model Tree, corresponding model items appear highlighted with the
preselection color in the graphics window.
If you click Highlight Geometry, geometry corresponding to the item nodes that you select
on either the Drawing Tree or the Model Tree appear highlighted with the secondary
highlight color in the graphics window.
Drawing objects are highlighted based on the active model focus. That is, either the entire
sheet is highlighted if there is no active model view, or only objects within the active model
view are highlighted.

In a drawing, highlighting the selected object is limited by the active model view and
the location of the selected item.
