2.1 INTRODUCTION
Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled was established in the year 1997 by Mr.Mahantesh
G K along with his schoolmate and childhood friend, Late. Mr.Nagesh SP. The
founders, being visually impaired and having witnessed various challenges, have together
conceptualized Samarthanam, an organization which would cater to people with
disabilities, including visually impaired and underprivileged. Education was conceived to
be the basic right of every individual, irrespective of status and disability. And hence they
initiated on the development of various programs primary, secondary and higher
education levels and also various other initiatives solely dedicated for visually impaired
and underserved. As the organization’s objective and drive started gathering support,
Samarthanam’s areas of service also widened. The organization moved onto establishing
Livelihood Resource Centers, Rehabilitation Centers, Social Enterprises and a Sports
Association for the visually impaired. Samarthanam expanded and fortified to be
recognized as an umbrella organization, offering services to hundreds of people with
disabilities, underserved and women in distress. Samarthanam promotes building of an
inclusive society which provides equal opportunities, without discrimination, for the
development of the visually impaired, disabled and economically underserved.

Samarthanam Livelihood Resource Centre acts as a one-stop shop to meet all livelihood
related needs of persons with disability. The Centre provides the following services -
1. Skill training
2. Job Placement
3. Networking with corporate
4. Creating favorable attitude and environment towards employment of persons with
disabilities(within families, community, government and employers)
5. Post-employment support (such as disabled friendly environment, alumni networks,
working against employment discrimination)
Beneficiary/Target group
The LRC aims to reach out to young persons with disabilities in the age group of 16-40
years. The focus is on young people, especially women, with mild to moderate
disabilities including locomotors, visual, speech and hearing impairments.

2.4 Code of Conduct
Code of conduct is a set of rules outlining the social norms and religious rules and
responsibilities of proper practice for, and individual party or organization related concept
include ethical honor, moral codes and religion laws.

2) Parisara Program: - Parisara is a dry and E -Waste management programs. In this program
trust collects the waste such as newspapers, plastics, iron etc from various corporate houses,
households and schools segregate and recycle the waste scientifically and contribute to
environment. This initiative helps in generating income for the trust and it is utilized for
education programs run by the trust.
3) Donation Box: - The donation boxes are kept in restaurants, institutions and companies to
raise funds and it helps to create awareness of Samarthanam trust.

Training
Department
Training admin is head of Training department in North Karnataka. Training admin will take
care of all maintenance related to it. Training head from Bangalore branch use to give
instructions for Training admin. Training program includes training on BPO, Swadhara,
IT/ITES, Retail, DDU- GKY, and Cultural.
BPO and DDU- GKY: It includes courses like English and soft skill, Basic Computer Skill,
Domain and BPO. DDU- GKY program includes BPO, English and Basic Computer as
compulsory courses.
Swadhara: This is a Home for women in distress catering to around 50 residents including
women with disabilities, widows, women from economically backward sections who have
undergone trauma and abuse. The women are provided counseling support and vocational
training to rehabilitate them back into mainstream society.
IT/ITES: Samarthanam has established free vibrant facilities which appropriate accessible
infrastructure to facilitate IT training. The objective providing IT training is to bridge the gap
between persons with differently able and technology which gives them the capability to access
information from diverse genres.
Retail: Samarthanam LRC provides business management training. In other branches of trust,
trainings on retail, garments and hospitality, are provided. Based on the interest students of
Dharwad branch are placed in retail, hospitality and garments.
Culture: Samarthanam encourages skills in art, music and dance among persons with disabilities
by providing opportunities to perform on various states, national and international platforms.

Account officer manages the entire north Karnataka branches. Assistant accountant will
assist him regarding finance related work. They maintain every reports of financial
activity. And they play important role and assist the other departments in utilization of
funds.

Process of Placement
The placement officer's responsibility is to place the candidates in the companies. The head of all
programs is Program Manager. Regional Manager's duty is to contact companies for placement
of students. According to requirements of company students are placed. Trainers provide training
based on placement officer and program manager's suggestions. The founder and trustee give
instructions about placement.

Based on number of students mobilized, training cost for those students and placement support
expense, funds are raised.
DEPENDENCY OF TRAINING: -
Training department is dependent on mobilization, fund raising and placement
department. Based on number of students enrolled, funds available to cover training and
placement cost and market demand, training is provided.
DEPENDENCY OF PLACEMENT: -
Placement is connected to all departments. For placement students are needed. It is mainly
dependent on student’s performance. It is interdependent on Mobilizing department and Training
Department. To conduct Placement events fund is required it is also inter connected to Finance
Department.

Mobilization of students: - Trust is having team mobilization where the team visit the
Village & institutions etc. They mobilize the students regarding organization activities,

Fund raising: - In fund raising they have different activities like call centre, Parisara
Program, organizing events, donation boxes and institution visits, by these activities
The fund rising will done at Samarthanam Trust.
Education: - In this program Trust will help students to get good quality education by
Sending them to colleges. And Trust provides every facility for their education like
Books, travelling expense, college fees, hostels etc.
Training: - In the training they have Program called Livelihood Resource Centre;
Under this program it provides training of Basic Computer knowledge, Basic English
& Soft Skills.
Placement: - Based on their skill set developed by the students, they will be
Successfully placed in various organizations.

CALL CENTRE:-The main purpose of Call Centre is to raise fund by approaching people and it
is managed by Mr.Revansiddayya G S. Students of Samarthanam Trust often make calls to
donors and convey regarding the financial help. In turn this helps students to get practical
experience of Call Centre job and it helps to retain the existing donors.
DONATION BOXES: - Donation boxes are kept in hotels, institutions and companies to raise
funds and to create awareness about trust.
DONORS:-Individual donors are those who come forward to donate amount, ration, re-usable
product etc.
PARISARA PROGRAM:-It is a dry waste management program. In this program they collect
waste plastic, newspapers, cloths, iron, etc from schools, colleges and households and recycle it
so that out of which women employees in Bangalore Branch make useful items and Trust
organizes exhibition of those products and sell for profit. The funds accruing from this venture
are used to support physically challenged and visually impaired people.
DONATION FROM COLLEGE STUDENTS: - In this program the students donate money
through collecting from class friends or college friends and create awareness of Samarthanam.
2) TRAINING
LIVELIHOOD RESOURCE CENTRE: - The Livelihood Resource Centre of Samarthanam
provides services such as skill training, job placement, post- employment support such as alumni
networks, working against employment discrimination. Under this Program Trust provides
training on Basic English, BPO theory and Basic Computer for the students of Samarthanam
Trust Dharwad.
HIGHER EDUCATION -PRERANA: - PRERANA is an inclusive education program for
students with visual impairment. It aims to provide residential facilities, inclusive higher
education in renowned institutions, English language improvement courses, soft skill
development and improved standard of living through reduction of poverty amongst the disabled
youth.
3) PLACEMENT
PRE-PLACEMENT:- Pre- placement is stage in which trust collects students' profile and
provides training regarding placement activities. Trust conduct mock interview for the students
from both internal and external people and help students to develop soft skills. Trust contact
companies such as BPO/Call centers, Airtel , Akshyapatra, Garments, Sushruta hospital, etc for
placement of students.
PLACEMENT: - Different Call Centers, Hospitality sector, Retail sectors conduct placement
for students of Samarthanam. Placement is done through Job fairs, campus drive and telephonic
interview.
POST-PLACEMENT:- After placement and selection process, companies send offer letters to
trust. Trust provides stay fund for the students as post placement support for 3 months.
4) MOBILISING
Students are mobilized through field visit and institutions. To mobilize students, trust follows
certain procedure. First, they connect themselves with women & child welfare department of
Government. Second, they engage themselves with District Deputy Officer; third, through DDO
they meet Village Rehabilitation Worker. Fourth, through VRW they contact Multi
Rehabilitation Worker and finally they meet village level workers who help them to mobilize
students.
