FORMATTING A FLYER

PROJECTProject Goal

As the Outreach Director for the Metro Planning and Design Office, you are adding the
finishing touches to a flyer announcing the summer lecture series. Your edits include
checking the spelling and other aspects of the document structure.
Project Goal

GETTING STARTED
 Download the following file from the SAM website:

o IL_Word2013_UB_P1a_FirstLastName_1.docx

 Open the file you just downloaded and save it with the name:

o IL_Word2013_UB_P1a_FirstLastName_2.docx

o Hint: If you do not see the .docx file extension in the Save file dialog box, do
not type it. Word will add the file extension for you automatically.

 With the file IL_Word2013_UB_P1a_FirstLastName_2.docx still open, ensure


that your first and last name is displayed in the footer. If the footer does not display
your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS
1. Use Find and Replace to change all instances of the word “event” to the word
“series”. (Hint: You should make 3 replacements in the document.)

2. Move the insertion point to the end of the paragraph beginning with “The
Metro Planning and Design…” and enter the following sentence:

The lectures provide the community an opportunity to hear


renowned experts in the field dedicated to sharing their
knowledge.

3. Cut the paragraph “Always Free and Open to the Public!” Move the insertion
point to the blank line at the end of the document and paste the paragraph
you just cut so that it becomes the new final paragraph.

4. At the end of the paragraph below the “Terra Nova at Home - June 15”
heading, select the text “Terra Nova department” and convert it into a
hyperlink to an email address. Use the email address
info@terranova.cengage.com and the subject Topics. (Hint: Word will
automatically add the text “mailto:” before the email address that you type—
do not remove this text.)

5. In the paragraph below the “From Dining Hall to Campus Community Center -
July 15” heading, remove the hyperlink from the text “Creative School”.

6. In the paragraph below the “From Dining Hall to Campus Community Center -
July 15” heading, italicize the text “For ages 5 and up!”

7. If necessary, reselect “For ages 5 and up!” and copy the text. Move the
insertion point to the beginning of the next paragraph, “Metro staff and local
educators lead…”, and paste the text.

8. In the paragraph “Lectures will be held at the Creative Capital Auditorium”,


remove the hyperlink from the text “Creative Capital Auditorium”.

9. In the paragraph beginning with “Email the Metro Planning…”, select the text
“Metro Planning and Design Office” and convert it into a hyperlink to an email
address. Use the email address: MetroSummer@metro.cengage.com and
the subject: Info. (Hint: Word will automatically add the text “mailto:” before
the email address you type—do not remove this text.)

10. Check the Spelling & Grammar in the document to identify and correct any
spelling errors. (Hint: You should find and correct at least 2 spelling errors.)

11. Open the Document Properties Panel and type Summer Lecture Series in
the Title field and For Distribution in the Subject field. Close the Document
Properties panel.
Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes,
close the document, and exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your
completed project.
