The head or capsid of a T4 phage contains one kind of nucleic acid
and protein The tail is the tube in which the genetic code stored in the head, travels down The contractile sheath moves the nucleic acid down tail and into the bacteria cell The tail fibers and the base plate help attach the phage to the bacteria cell. T4 phages attach themselves to E. coli bacteria cells. The T4’s first job is to attach itself to a bacteria cell. Once the T4 attaches itself, the genetic code is released through the tail and into the bacteria cell. The bacteria is then forced to make copies of the T4 phages When the amount of T4s in a bacteria cell increase to the maximum amount the cell can hold, the cell bursts and the T4 cells are released. The process of attach and copy continues until all the cells are destroyed.
