* e-automate is a networked business application, and the network itself will be your lifeblood. Always
have professionals install and configure your network. If your company does not have in-house IT staff
you should select a local professional networking firm that will be available for regular service and
maintenance. Networking and IT issues are not covered as part of any e-automate support agreement.

1.3 Network Setup

• Recommend Cat 5 twisted pair wiring or equivalent

• Required that your server not be used as a workstation for optimum performance
• Recommend 100Mb-capable or better wiring and switches (not hubs)
• Full-time broadband internet connection
• Firewall ports must be open for the DGServer and Microsoft SQL Server. By default these are
TCP port 1331 for DGServer and TCP port 1433 and UDP port 1434 for Microsoft SQL Server.

1.4 Notes

Your e-automate and SQL server should not also be your Exchange server
Running your e-automate and SQL Server on your Active Directory Server (Domain Controller) is
not recommended.
VM (virtual servers) environments can work with e-automate but there can be performance
issues. Please consult a VM specialist for best performance practices with SQL Server.

2.3 Peripherals

2.4 Notes

• e-automate can run in a Windows Terminal Server / Citrix environment however there can
be challenges or complications with e-automate and Windows user rights with Terminal
Server.
• Windows User Account Control (UAC) can cause problems with the install and using e-
automate. UAC can be turned off and the computer rebooted before installing e-automate.

3.3 Notes

• e-info & PIP are not supported when running on Microsoft Exchange Server.
• The same server can be used for e-info, PIP, and other web site add-on products.
• Active Server Pages (ASP) and ASP.NET need to be enabled.
• The web server must be able to access the e-automate SQL server over TCP/IP.
• It is not recommended that the web server be on the same server as the e-automate SQL
Server.
• If the operating system is 64 bit then IIS needs to be configured to run 32 bit applications.
• These add-ons require an external facing IP address with a DNS entry to resolve to that IP
address, typically as a sub-domain (e.g. sevice.mycomany.com/einfo). Please consult a
knowledgeable network professional for assistance in configuring these requirements.

4 Application Server (optional)

4.1 DTF (Digital Task Force)

• If DTF is purchased you can choose to install and run DTF on the SQL server or on a separate
application server. DTF cannot be installed on an Exchange server.

4.2 e-agent

• e-agent can be installed on the e-automate server, a workstation, or on separate application

server. The system requirements for e-agent would be similar to the workstation
requirements, including Microsoft Office, Crystal Reports Runtime, and Adobe Reader. If
faxing will be used with e-agent then fax modem and fax software must be installed.
• e-agent is an application, not a service. In order for tasks to run, it must be running on a
machine and logged into a user account.

5 System

5.1 System Maintenance

• An important element of maintaining a high-performing information system is regular

upgrades and rotation of servers and workstation hardware. Information technology experts
recommend upgrading workstations on a 3-year cycle. In addition, for best cost and
performance, you’ll want to upgrade a portion of your hardware every year, rotating existing
workstations down the chain and eliminating the lowest performing machines. This
effectively gives most of your operation an upgrade in performance every year, and
minimizes the need for bulk PC purchases. The security and integrity of your data is your
responsibility. Please create a regular backup and maintenance schedule to ensure your data
can be recovered in the event of a system failure. Please ensure that your network
components (including SQL Server) are up to date in terms of security patches and that you
have a firewall system in place

5.2 SMTP Server Requirements

• If you wish to use the automatic emailing functionality found in e-automate, e-agent, e-info,
or RemoteTech, you must have access to an SMTP server. This SMTP server can either be
from an email service provider or hosted locally on-site. e-automate and related products
support SMTP connection either unencrypted or encrypted using explicit SSL (sometimes
referred to as TLS or STARTTLS). Implicit SSL is not supported. If you plan on connecting using
encryption, make sure that the server software or email service provider has support for
explicit SSL and that it is configured properly.
