MONDAY—EVANGELISTIC PRAYER
Chronological Bible Reading: Lamentations 1-3
Monday, August 27
Matt. 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Dear Lord and Master:
Sometimes, for Christ’s sake, I suffer in some way for proclaiming the
gospel. Help me rejoice in that honor when conferred by your providence. I
thank you for each instance you count me worthy to suffer with my Lord, for
this is “the way of the Master.” It brings soul-rest in a work-yoke!
So I also rejoice in this: my sufferings, losses and crosses, persecutions and
afflictions, all make a platform from which I can more authentically—and with
greater power—witness for Jesus. They are a divine set-up! Help me study
carefully my great example, the Lord Jesus, and be filled with his Spirit today.
I need more teaching on this, Lord! I need more beholding of Jesus in his
humility and suffering. I need much grace, more than I previously sought at your
feet, to get the gospel to __________ and to __________.
Lord, send your power on my pleas! Send your Spirit with my supplication.
There is no power in prayer without your presence as I pray, because unless I am
really and truly addressing you, who else will hear, and do, and can answer? Lord,
can you teach me to intercede for souls? You,
Heb. 5:7-8 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and
supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from
death, and was heard in that he feared; Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the
things which he suffered;
Dear God, make me a witness like Jesus! Not the cheap kind, passing out
paper but taking a pass on trials. If I would know the full measure of fruitfulness
I must know the full measure of pruning, your yoke. Give me such grace. Amen.

Deut. 6:7 And thou shalt teach [these words] diligently unto thy children, and shalt

thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
O SOUL, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior, and life more abundant and free!
Through death into life everlasting He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—for more than conquerors we are!
His Word shall not fail you—He promised; believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying, His perfect salvation to tell!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

TUESDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE
Chronological Bible Reading: Lamentations 4-5
Tuesday, August 28
Matt. 26:52-53 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for
all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray
to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
O Holy God:
There is no limit to the available resources of Christ! That band of
belligerents every hater leads is an insignificant squad if only I summon allies. If
Christ was able—even in his humiliation—to fill the air with seventy-two
thousand angels, how much more can he do it now that he is glorified! For now,
Matt. 28:18 All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Jesus, even in your humiliation you were Lord of all (especially of the
unseen world and things outside my control). Make me see this even more clearly
as I take the tale of the all-conquering love displayed on the cross to those who
are lost. Angels are also, according to some measure, at my beck and call. I have
but to pray and ask you to intervene, because you are the one,
Heb. 1:7,14 Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. Are
they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
I do not think about this enough when I pray. Like Elijah’s servant, if only
my eyes were opened I would see the heights filled with horses, and chariots of
fire surrounding me as I serve you.
Help me remember today to count on invisible forces. Let me not lean in
trust on that which is seen by the eye, but let me have respect to spiritual agencies
known to faith. Let your angels play-out your providence in my life. You can give
me friends on earth, but even if you do not, you can assemble a “small group”
in heavenly places. Do it today so I will have power in my testimony for you. In
Jesus’ name I ask for this. Amen.
FRIDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY
Chronological Bible Reading: Ezekiel 9-12
Friday, August 31
Psa. 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my
thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Dear Lord, we lift up our souls today:
Now as we pray, let not any room within us be sealed-off to keep you out.
Let there be no secret purpose of evil formed in our minds, awaiting an
opportunity to be acted on. But instead,
† Eph. 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be
strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
Give us grace to follow after good, and bless all our undertakings for you
(especially the upcoming outreach of National Back to Church Sunday). Give us
strength in the inner man, but also boldness outwardly for your cause and Christ.
2 Cor. 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us;
NOW, AS WE PRAY THIS PRAYER, let us not say to ourselves secretly, You can
get involved someday, but not to-day, or, Get involved a little, but not much.
§ Lord, give us zeal for your Eternal Purpose, our passion
NOW, AS WE PRAY THIS PRAYER, let us not harbor in our hearts any wrong
feelings of jealousy, bitterness, anger or revenge.
§ Lord, bless our enemies and those who have despitefully used us
NOW, AS WE PRAY THIS PRAYER, let us not still be intending to use the best
hours and years of our lives for ourselves.
§ Lord, save us from being a slave to lesser purposes than your eternal one!
Holy Spirit of God, as we rise from this act of devotion, let us not return to
have to ask you for. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Do it for Jesus’
sake because we ask it in Jesus’ name. Amen.
WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING
Chronological Bible Reading: Ezekiel 1-4
Wednesday, August 29
Ezek. 18:27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he
hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
Almighty and Merciful God:
The Bible tells me to confess afresh my sins and wickedness, and I should
not evade or cloak them when I appear before your face. Today Lord, I do
confess them with a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart. I thank you I
receive forgiveness through your infinite mercy by the merit of Jesus Christ.
I have erred and wandered from your ways like a lost lamb. I followed the
desires and devices of my own heart too often. I offended against your holy law. I
left undone those things that ought to have been done, and done those things I
ought not to have done. There is no soundness in me!
But you, O Lord, have all the soundness I need, and display mercy to
miserable offenders like myself. You spare those who confess their faults before
you. You restore those who repent, and you do so according to the promises
declared by Jesus Christ and recorded in your word. Grant Lord, for Jesus’ sake,
that I might live today a godly, righteous, and sober life in light of the lateness of
this hour. Bring us revival that we might live to the glory of your holy name!
Deliver me from the bonds of those sins that take advantage of the human
faults and frailty of my flesh. Lead me not into temptation, because you know
how I find that pathway too easily on my own! Grant this for Christ Jesus’ sake
because of what he accomplished on the cross. And then,
Psa. 51:15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.
Deny me not this plea, because in this your name will be glorified. All these
things I ask and expect for revival, and for Christ Jesus’ sake who died to make all
of us whole. Amen.
SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS
Chronological Bible Reading: Ezekiel 13-16
Saturday, September 1
Psa. 32:10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD,
mercy shall compass him about.
Almighty and Merciful God:
What a great reward you give for my trust! You reject willpower, but you
work through spiritual faith by my free will. Father, grant me faith in fullness this
weekend. The truster feels himself to be a sinner more than anyone else, but
mercy is prepared for that person. I know myself to deserve nothing, yet mercy
comes into my life from you, new every day and fresh every morning (Lam 3:22-
23). Lord, give me your mercy even as I trust in you right now.
What a bodyguard I have! Just like the President is surrounded with security
agents, so I am compassed about with your mercy. In front and behind—around
on all sides—ride the mounted guards of grace. You have put me in the center of
your solar system of love, because I dwell in Christ Jesus the Lord.
What an atmosphere for my soul to breathe! Just like air surrounds me,
even so does your mercy. I can pray it in. To those who hate you there are many
sorrows, but to me there are so many mercies, my sorrows are not even worth
mentioning! As David says,
Psa. 32:11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye
that are upright in heart.
In obedience to this Bible principle I will do like David, and command my
heart to triumph in you. Make my gladness a testimony to others, and just as you
have surrounded me with mercy, so surround others today that their darkened
minds may be lightened, and their blindness taken away. Then let us all surround
your throne together with songs of thanksgiving and praise!
For so I ask it in Jesus’ name and to his glory. Amen.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
“Oh,” says one, “I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer.” And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into God’s presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayer—the posture, the
time, place—rather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
